Re: Hot Toys G.I. Joe Retaliation: Snake Eyes Collectible Figure - Full Specs & Pics

Nothing about armor is sci fi, especially on a ninja/commando :lol my god warriors have worn it forever so they can last thru more then one battle, they are still wearing it today, it helps your chances of surviving the battle. And this batman looking se armor is really the only way to keep se as a ninja with a sword and guns and have it be somewhat believable, if they would have had him in the movie wearing a modern military plate carrier I would have just laughed, you can't move the way a ninja does with that on. Their are lots of joes that will look awesome decked out in modern soldier armor, but since you can't be both se is a ninja and this armor works, if I could change one thing about this design it would be making the visor/helmet/mask look more like the original.

Yeah, to be quite honest, I don't see a problem with the armour whatsoever.

I think it looks kind of cool, actually - and I have no problem believing he could still do crazy ninja-type moves with it on. :)

Yeah. Sucks, eh? :(

Whoa, now - soldiers, even GI Joes, WALK. A lot! :)

Of course they walk, I was just trying to get the point across that they aren't gonna be making any three day hikes when they have all these advanced operational vehicles and methods they can use for insertion/extraction, and they are an elite unit, they wouldn't have to do the long marches like regular soldiers do, they would be in and out and half way around the world again.

Cool :hi5: glad someone else on here thinks it works for this.

Looks pretty good! Not much less cartoon/toy accurate than the Sideshow figures honestly, and unlike those others, will probably look great right out of the box, and unlike the most recent SSC Snake Eyes, will probably feel like it is worth the money being paid. . .

old quote.. but I agree. This looks great compared to SS offerings.

:goodpost: I agree, I would love to see hot toys take a crack at doing a classic snake eyes design, I wanted to get the last ss one se and timber but it just looked to fake to me. I showed a buddy of mine a pic of the hot toys se on my phone and he thought it was a movie still, hot toys is awesome.

You might be surprised, actually - elite units are usually the ones who train for even longer and more excruciating marches. :)

True, they have to be prepared for anything and be able to evade and escape if things go wrong, but the weight of armor wouldn't keep them from doing that, they are trained to be able to carry extra ammo and gear and endure longer then regular soldiers.

Not just E&E, but for infil/exfil too. Helicopters are great and all, but I'm not sure there's anything stealthier than just walking, after all. :)

But yeah, you're right - well, depending on the environment, I guess. I didn't even like sitting around outside in body armour in the Afghanistan heat, but then again, I'm chairborne, not Airborne. :)

Just look at special ops types in Vietnam, LRRP and the like - they usually wore boonie hats rather than helmets. Sometimes comfort is more important than protection!

Still, like I said before, I actually like the armour SE is wearing here - I don't see it as inappropriate at all, really.

for a fantasy tacticool ninja/spy/sabatour/commando, he works just fine.

As for the latest snake eyes with timber from sideshow, don't knock it till you see him in hand.. he's one of those figures that doesn't photograph well, but looks AMAZING in person.

The Sci-Fi appearance of the armor is what makes it Sci-Fi. It's related to how the Colonial Marines armor appeared in Aliens. Anything that looks similar is thought to be Sci-Fi.

Re: Hot Toys G.I. Joe Retaliation: Snake Eyes Collectible Figure - Full Specs & Pics

Xeno, basically, they're saying it has a look to it that is reminiscent of Science fiction..

Meaning armor like that doesn't exist outside the fantasy/sci-fi of the film. the armor itself IS sci-fi.

Much like the Batsuit in the nolan films.

Yes, it looks asomewhat realistic, but it's still something that has a tech-fantasy/sci-fi look to it.

Put another way, the armor looks like it would fit RIGHT IN in a star trek film.

I agree agout the new fig, and I really like what some people on here have done with custom ss and timber figures, but I really don't like the ss se or timber how they come originally, I have only seen pics, but it just isn't up to hot toys current level of detail from what I have seen.

That's what I was trying to get across. And I wouldn't mind having it for some sort of future soldier, if it was more balanced with leg armor, just not for use as SE.

I see where your coming from here, I just consider sci fi to be stuff that doesn't exist in the real world, and this armor could be made today. But I agree that it does have a futuristic ninja look to it.

That was for protection. The helmets were too "profile-able" and the berets didn't prevent jungle critters from dropping down the back of their shirts. Plus, they had other benefits like deflecting rain, sun, etc. So while not necessarily good protection for the noggin, they were extremely practical for the environment.
