I will not be tempted by this thread... I will not be tempted by this thread... :D

If you have even a remote interest in LOTR/Hobbit Legos I would suggest buying a couple small sets to try them out. These days Legos jump in price so much after they sell out or are discontinued that I would recommend getting anything you want rather than regretting it later. It's almost like HT in that regard.

Lego makes two waves per year - one in summer and one in winter. And during each wave something from the previous wave usually gets discontinued to accomodate the shelf space.

Just tell gibby you want all the Hobbit sets for Christmas. :monkey3:monkey3:monkey3

Oh, this I know! I collect the Monster and Star Wars sets. A few of the LOTR sets like Weathertop and the Unexpected Gathering have peaked my interest. I'll have to see how things are after the holidays.

I have held Bag End in my hands three times at various stores. I just can't seem to pull the trigger.

I'm having fun with these...

Yeah, paying $70 was just not going to happen. But I'll wait and see if a deal pops up. Then I might take the plunge. I just noticed that set is around $100 on Amazon from sellers!!! I guess maybe it's getting hard to find some places. It was weird, at the last Wal-Mart I was at they had plenty of all the sets and just one of that one. I'm sure that won't last past the holiday rush though.

I do like my little arrival of Gandalf set. I have no interest in getting sucked in because of all the other things I collect. But the Bag End set seemed like something special.

You shouldn't pay more than around 50 for Bag End. And do not buy from resellers on Amazon right before Xmas. Prices are highest right now.

Personally, I buy direct from Lego for the VIP points system and because I feel good about paying them full price for a great product. Granted, I won't pay full price to any other store or seller.

I used to buy from Lego direct but the 5% points doesn't really cut it for me anymore since their prices have gone up so much. Now I only buy online using coupon deals, BOGO50, etc. Amazon is really the place to go and for smaller sets I generally wait for a 25% discount before pulling the trigger. Sadly my state is losing its Amazon sales tax exemption Feb 1 so the party is over somewhat.

Speak of the devil, the spiders, goblin, and wargs sets are on sale on Amazon right now.

Personally, I buy mainly just the store exclusives from LEGO Direct, or when they're running a promotion.

Yes to the exclusives and yes I did but the Mirkwood set from Amazon just this morning, 21.97 shipped without tax? Why go to the store :) I am waiting for the goblin battle to drop below the 70 dollar threshold. Yeah I check too often.
