Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

For those who might appreciate a little recap:

This could very well be what happens in Episode VII. Decades before Abrams' Star Trek, when George Lucas first talked about his proposed "Sequel Trilogy," this seems to be what he had in mind. We here at Hollywood.com did some research and dug up some old interviews that suggest as much. Speaking to comics legend Jim Steranko, an artist who contributed key concept art for Raiders of the Lost, in an interview for Steranko's Prevue magazine for its September-October 1980 edition, Lucas said that Episode VII would begin "roughly 20 (or perhaps 30 or 40) years" after the end of Return of the Jedi. He also told TIME in 1983 that he imagined Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and even Harrison Ford appearing in Episodes VII, VIII, and IX when they're in their 60s or 70s. And in a sweeping profile titled "George Lucas: Father of the Force" in a February 1988 issue of Starlog, Lucas revealed that he imagined Luke having a romantic relationship with a female love interest in the sequel trilogy.

Mark Hamill himself confirmed much of this in a press conference at Fox Home Entertainment's junket for the DVD release of the Original Trilogy in September 2004. Recalling Lucas' original plans for his involvement in a sequel trilogy, Hamill said the following: "[George] said, 'Um, how'd you like to be in Episode IX?' This is 1976. 'When is that going to be?' '2011.' I defy anyone to add 36 years to their lives and not be stunned." Hamill then added, "I said, 'Well, what do you want me to do?' George said, 'You'll just be like a cameo. You'll be like Obi-Wan handing the lightsaber down to the next new hope.'"

Well, Episode VII is slated for 2015, so only a few years after Lucas's original prediction that Hamill would reprise his most famous role in 2011. All of this is still up in the air, and anything could happen, of course. But, if you didn't already feel bullish about the chances of at least Hamill having a cameo in another Star Wars movie, check out this cryptic tweet from the erstwhile Jedi Master: "Congratulations to George for today's mega-deal! Can't comment on Ep 7 before I have all the facts which are short supply right now-Patience."

Maybe Episode VII will be a return of the Jedi indeed.

I really hope it doesn't turn out like suited Darth Vader in the PT where Luke doesn't actually appear until the last few minutes of Episode IX. :(

I'm relieved the history lesson is finally over. I'm sick of the clone wars era. I'm glad there's finally going to be a sequel to ROTJ. I'd prefer to see Han, Luke and Leia again, even if they are supporting cast.

That's one thing that can make the new movies instantly better than the prequels--no politics. Vast amounts of the prequels are boring because of the politics.

That stuff doesn't really apply anymore. Things already changed since that stuff back then plus the prequels are much different from his initial plan as well so it's unlikely anything written during that time would be the plan now.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

If he has enough money waved in his face, I think Ford would do a cameo in part 7. He doesn't need the money, of course, but he's clearly done roles for money in the past. And it isn't like he has been shamed by his work as Solo and that it typecast him and ruined his life. He may not look on that role (particularly in Jedi) as the finest moment of his career, but I don't see his personal feelings being enough to outweigh the kind of money that could be offered to him.

Not that I would care much either way.

Lucas and everyone said that the prequels would feature the Clone Wars and how Obi-Wan and Vader met and how their climactic duel would scar Vader. The prequels DID give us that. He just threw in a bunch of peripheral crap like Jar Jar, midichlorians and boring Senate meetings.

If Lucas has had a plan for a brief Luke cameo in the Sequel Trilogy I think it's fair to assume that that's pretty likely to occur.

I hope if HF comes back its with the stipulation that green screen must be minimal.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I'd almost expect Luke to be mostly a hermit, like Ben or Yoda, teaching students one-by-one and setting them out to train more Jedi. Then some event causes him to seek out Leia and Han, but he's old (or ill) enough to need one of his student to help him.

Ford liked ESB Han. He thought ROTJ Han was lame and wanted to at least go out in a blazy of glory in order to be less lame. If Episode VII features an older version of ROTJ Han I could see him passing. If they show him how he can be cool again then I could see him signing on.

Perhaps it'll be set 875 years after ROTJ and we'll have him saying ''well Yoda, you were right. I don't look as good as you did at 900''

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Since the Empire assumedly won't exist I'm curious to see what kind of "trooper" type characters the new films will feature.

900 year old Luke saying that line would be funny, but I kinda doubt they'll jump that far.

I doubt all of the Empire's hardware was destroyed at Endor. There's still going to be remnants, just like the EU. Reagonal Governors might band together their small fleets. But it does seem like there should be a new, outside threat. In the books the galaxy is invaded, might not be a bad move for the films.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Crazy to think that the entire new trilogy will be released when I'm in my forties.

Can't wait to see Luke in Jedi robes AND get a figure of him!! :rock

Maybe Hot Toys having the license PRIOR to film release means they can somehow work out a massive "Avengers-style" push of 7-8 Episode VII figures in time for 2015. Probably not since they seem to only be able to rehash Sideshow releases but we can hope. :)

HT doesn't have the SW license. :wave

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Semantics. They're making SW figures and selling them to the public. Use whatever word you want, my point still stands.

No, your point's still wrong. :lol They're making one figure a year by piggybacking off of Sideshow's license which is leased from Hasbro. Don't expect anything "Avenger-esque." HT won't be able to pull that off with the 1-a-year stipulation doing rehashes of old SSC figs, and I can't remember a single time when Sideshow's ever been able to capitalize off of movie hype to coincide with a product release. :lol

Read my original post. Where did I say I was actually expecting that to happen.

But a week ago HT seemed to be in a much better position to release more SW figures than Disney releasing SW movies and here we are.

It couldn't have happened any other way, we already had the ending to that story with the OT, there wasn't any other story option for the PT
