Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Khev you are flat nuts. :lol

I'll give you 6 months tops before you decompress and change your mind on this. :lecture

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Wouldn't everyone here liked to have seen way more of the Engineer than anything else? I mean, we've seen perfectly life-like androids before, renegades, captains, strong women, and mutated zombiemen just the same. The Engineer species were something relatively fresh but we barely got to know them.

That android was probably the biggest distraction in the whole movie, should have cut him out completely. I liked David, but the humans needed to prove themselves worthy of the encounter first and foremost. The engineer should have been wide awake waiting for them.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Really? I am simply trying to understand the overwhelming, extreme hate for the movie. There were DEFINITELY some things I didn't like about the movie..not once have I said it was flawless. Where the hell is that coming from?

Prometheus could have been so much better. And I really wanted it to be...but a bad movie?
Is this why you all hate it? Because you were expecting the second coming and won't accept anything less?

See, you're so myopic in your view on this that you think and say that I hate the movie. I guess giving a film a 7 out of 10 but being overall disappointed is "hate" now. Let's just give every movie a 9 or 10! :lol

Well, it's odd that you rated it so high. I don't think you've really had anything to say about the film that wasn't negative. Or atleast that's what you focus on.

Almost everyone else seems to think it's a horrible movie...but their reasoning doesn't make any sense. I'm trying to understand what was so horrible about it.

And myopic? Really? Are you purposely trying to get me riled up?

You remember the flute that activated the controls in the ship? I didn't like that at all. I wish they never put that in the movie.

So I'm not "myopic". I'm not attacking anyone, not saying it's flawless, not saying it's the greatest film ever made (it definitely isn't).

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I think someone said the flute was a tribute to Dr. Who fans earlier in the thread. It didn't bother me, I liked seeing that their technology wasn't just screens and buttons like ours.

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

I think Paul Durango's review is supposed to be just for a laugh. If he actually watched the movie and made some of those comments, he really shouldn't be reviewing movies. :dunno

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

If you completely ignore the connection to the Alien franchise..can any of you enjoy the movie? As just a random sci-fi film? Is it really this bad?

I feel like if this movie was an actual living being, you would all chase after it with pitchforks. I don't get it...as Shaw said, "Why do you hate us so much?".

I thought it was much better than District 9, which everyone seems to love around here.

I know you all don't really hate it because of the "plotholes", because there really weren't any. There were unanswered questions and the occasional screw-up that is so minute it's not even worth mentioning. Ie, Engineer/pilot chair being a bit smaller than it was in Alien. Every movie has problems like that....but why is it the end of the world with Prometheus?

Actually - you inadvertently hit upon a key point. At least for me - if this was just another sci-fi movie (with no connection to "Alien"); I would actually give it an even lower rating than my 5 stars out of 10 stars.

Not going to get into with you again, because you refuse to accept the notion that the film has problems that it never should have had given its pedigree and the talent involved. Even some of its biggest supporters, like Celtic Predator, concede this point.

That said, most of us don't necessarily think it's bad. It's just not that good. It could/should have been a lot better.

Not surprised you think it's a better film than District 9 since you're also the same chap who thinks Kirsten Dunst is prettier than Emma Stone. :nana:

This is why I'm convinced that if given the chance - Scott will definitely make a sequel. It felt like an incomplete story to me. Too many loose ends to call it a day.

I'm sure you can have a movie that presents more questions than it answers and yet feel complete. That takes an almost flawless execution. Unfortunately - that's not the case with "Prometheus".

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

The problem with Prometheus' meager box office earnings isn't because it's Rated R. It's because its reception was lukewarm. Word-of-mouth has not been good overall.

Face it, if many of us weren't as disappointed in the movie as we are, its box office prospects would have been considerably better.

When the lights came up after our viewing - there was an awful lot of groans from the audience we saw it with. And one person said "Okay?" out loud. A decent movie usually gets a smattering of scattered applause. There wasn't any when I saw it. And it was packed.

Word of mouth definitely isn't good for this movie.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I agree. And thats why ive said in the past and looking at a few pages back - if the movie doesnt do as good as they thought it would, and it doesnt get a sequel then i will deeply resent the fact that we had the chance to get an Alien Prequel and we got a Prometheus 2 Prequel with no follow up movie to explain what was never explained in this one.

I do like the movie. I hate all the people who blindly love the movie though calling people Alien fanboys and haters because they see the obvious flaws the movie has whilst at the same time sticking their heads in the sand and telling other people to just enjoy it. We are grown adults and we like what we like and we can see through bull____. IMO Predators had a better Score, Cast and was a complete story. It was back in the Classic movie franchise, introduced a new breed of the creature, a new planet , give us new memorable characters & music all whilst not taking away from the current franchise and telling a complete story.

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

I agree with just about everything this guy said.

Especially these:

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS ARE ALL DUMB
A few facts...
- On an alien planet, if your sensors say the air is breathable, take your helmet off and find out.
- If you see a creature that looks like a King Cobra about to attack, talk to it and be nice.
- The Captain who "only fly the ship" can deduce alien military applications by looking at the outside of a pyramid.
- If you see an alien worm burrowing into your eyeball, don't seek medical attention, just ignore it and hope it goes away.

Some of the stupid stuff like the above listed things completely took me out of the movie.

For being what I would assume were the most brilliant minds in their respective fields, these characters seemed more like a group of bumbling idiots on safari. Like the Bad News Bears in space or something :slap

Agree completely. The supporting staff were really, really dumb while the so-called smart guys looked and acted like they were a dumb guy's idea of how smart guys should look and act. And the really, really smart guys -- the android, the male scientist and the daughter, weren't just smart, they were downright cruel for what felt like no other reason than being too smart means that you become mean.

With the LOST ending and now this, I really do not like the writing of Damon Lindelof.

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

I don't care if people like the movie or not, but no one is giving any real reasons as to why it was so bad.

Mate, seriously. You're the sole reason why I can't be arsed posting in this thread anymore. You set out to shut down any critical discussion of the movie.

Your suspension of disbelief was obviously maintained throughout the story arcs, plot points and character development in Prometheus - but you come across like anybody who was thrown out of theirs is a hater with no valid points to make on a script that, objectively speaking, had a substantial number of flaws.

I love a Big Mac as much as the next guy. But anybody trying to tell me I'm enjoying a fine dining experience lacks objectivity imo. Or whatever.

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

I can understand most of the complaints in this thread , especially regarding the characters and this forum isn't actually bad for it but has anyone noticed how it seems to be becoming cool to hate this movie, especially on the internet of late. I don't think that's fair really , there have been far worse movies. I don't understand how movies like transformers seemed to be more well received from so called fans that this has. :dunno

Sure it has problems but overall this is a fun movie that's visually stunning and most of the complaints can be lost with a little imagination , like others I'm someone who actually likes that.

Or a cool fight between an Alien and the Engineer. It would have tied the movie universe together a little more.

:slap

Taking you example.

Transformers: Toy licesne + Michael Bay + movie marketed for children = zero expectations/illogical nonsence expected/suckness excused

Prometheus: Ridley Scott + Alien = 'nuff said

And for the record, I didn't hate it. It was entertaing enough, but easily forgettable. Wouldn't be in my top 100 movies of all time list.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Inception is a good example. The official budget for that film is listed as $160 Million. But an additional $100 million was spent just on marketing and promotion.

The $100million on marketing paid off big time for them too.

I thought it was much better than District 9, which everyone seems to love around here.

District 9 is brilliant film and got it right on so many levels though. When the viewer ends up caring for an 'fookin' alien prawn and his little kid you know it's on to a winner. It's been too long since I last watched that film.:slap

I'd call myself a Predator fanboy and overall I enjoyed Predators but at the same time there are so many things about it that really piss me off. It all started when Rodriguez started ____ting all over the original '87 design claimimg his 'ipod' Preds were bigger and meaner. He should have just kept his mouth shut!

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

I suppose because I wasn't expecting much I got more than I wanted. I think the Blade Runner sequel is easily going to suck a lot more than this.

Re: Prometheus - Spoiler thread!

WTF goes on in this thread?! :pow

Can the two threads not be merged together now? Both contain spoilers. It's a pain trying to keep track of all the love :)lol) in both threads at the same time.
