Re: The Dark Knight Rises

There was never any intention for the Joker to be in the 3rd Batman movie of Nolan's series, even before Ledger died. Anything different is always attributed to an "anonymous source".

Then why was Ledger contracted for another film?

Not sure if it was a comic con panel interview or something but there is a video with I think one of the producer or writer and they stated Joker was to return.

I am now searching for anything from a direct non-anonymous source that says that the Joker was supposed to be back, and there is nothing even mentioning it except Nolan's denial of the rumour. If you find anything, can you post it?

I'm almost sure Eckhart confirmed this as well. I remember him stating that he didn't have a contract for another film and Two-Face wouldn't return but that, unfortunately, Ledger did.

Goyer also mentioned plans and early drafts where The Joker would be a side character in a third film but still had a powerful presence, ala, Hannibal Lecter.

Who knows. It sure isn't happening now so speculation is moot. If Ledger were alive I'm sure TDKR would be radically different. It might not even be called "The Dark Knight Rises".

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

You being the only one who thinks this isn't proof enough? :dunno

What is "this" proof that you speak of?

No one can argue for -or- against "I read somewhere..." "I remember seeing/hearing on a panel..." "I'm pretty sure so-and-so said..."

Hearsay is unprovable by definition. I read a lot of rumours that Ledger was originally supposed to be in it, but I didn't believe any of it because none of it came from a legit or direct source. Again, if anyone can link me to any video, direct primary source quote,...anything legit that says Ledger was supposed to be in Batman 3, please do so.

It is very easy to find Nolan's denial that any footage of Ledger was going to be in it, why is it so difficult to find anything that says the opposite? Is it because it doesn't exist?

That was pretty hard to find. There was a video of Eckhart explaining Ledger's contract as well.

I'll try and find the panel where Emma Thomas (the producer, Nolan's wife) mentions Ledger's contract. I'm not delusional, I remember it was confirmed before the "TDKR" title was ever brought to the table. For some reason, a lot of the interviews are hard to find. That doesn't mean they didn't happen.

I don't think anybody's going to sit you down in front of Nolan so he can tell you face-to-face, and I'm pretty sure you're one of those people who will demand no less than that and discredit anything posted. So we'll all continue living in reality and you can have fun in your little bubble, mkay? :wave

Thank you! Ok the actual quote is
I think unfortunately, Heath [Ledger] was supposed to go on and that didn't work out. I'm nobody. I'm a cog. I have no say over this sort of stuff. I'm sure that there's so many other characters that they could whip together. I heard Angelina Jolie was going to be Catwoman or something like that.
Emphasis is mine to show that this isn't exactly proof that he was supposed to be back, and even Eckhart (a pretty damn primary source) admits he doesn't know what is going on behind the scenes, and is subject to a lot of the same hearsay as the general public.

But thank you all the same DiFabio, you have at least linked to a primary source that said he thought Ledger was supposed to be back. :clap

Again with the personal insults. Did you just glaze over this post?

No need to get personal. Source? If anyone can prove that I will *happily* admit I was wrong.

DiFabio has since posted a direct quote from an Eckhart interview on a legit site...I absolutely believe those are Eckhart's words.

Two different issues. One's a rumor that popped up well after his death because people couldn't accept that the Joker wasn't going to be in TDKR. So they thought unused footage or cgi could be used. :cuckoo:

Why is this a big deal? There's really no doubt that, if Ledger was alive, Joker would have returned in the third film.

But he did die and the Joker will not be in TDKR.

So... :huh
