I've come to realize neca's got some of the best sculpting in the toy biz.
and that's the problem. most of the fantastic sculpts they do are shrunk down to dinky 7" figures with mediocre paint. that company really knows how to let talent go to waste.

i would rather have these in 1/6 scale too, even more then 1/4 scale.but i like the 7 inch scale also.

It'd be nice to have them in 1/6 or 1/4.. I would really rather have them in 1/4 though.

..err actually, 19 inches..not 1/4..

The 19 inch scale IMO, is much better than true 1/4 for these figures.

As Daphne Moon would say.. I don't know why.

I wholeheartedly believe NECA will enter the realm of high-end figures sooner or later.
They are coming to grips, slowly but surely, with QC and paint apps, their approach to sculpting and articulation has changed, allowing for a lot better posing while retaining great sculpts, so I don't see why they should shy away from high end figures in 1/4 and 1/6 scale.
Give them a bit more time, they'll eventually get there.

I agree..ish.

I mean, there are so many people who refuse to buy their 7inch figures now that they've seen the 19 incher.

....plus all of the things you listed.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I may be in the minority on this forum, but I enjoy the 7-inch (technically 8-inch) Predator figures from NECA. While I've already broke down and order the upcoming HT Classic Predator based on tankman's singing praise of the figure, I usually don't like bigger scale figures (except for 1:1) because larger figures remind me of dolls quite frankly - a thought that just creeps me out.

In fact, at the moment, the only large scale figure in my collection besides a 1:1 Endoskeleton is a HT T-600, and the only reason I bought that figure is because I've always wanted a T-600.

I'd still enjoy them too if the paint were as good on all of them as it is on my Conan Temple of the Serpent figure and if something didn't break every time I walked past them. :dunno

:goodpost:

They should do and everyone would like them too but will they...

just so we're clear... your reasoning for not wanting nice Predator figures is because of some oddly-specific criteria you have for distinguishing "dolls" from figures. even tough they're the exact same thing no matter what size they are. that hurts my brain.

The doll-syndrome is pretty common with people who collect action figures. The fact that 1/6 scale figures can be dressed and undressed makes them suspicious in the eyes of manly action figures collectors. :dunno

I didn't play with dolls when I was a kid, I played with figures. To me, there's a difference even if I'm not playing with them anymore.

Either way, I don't want a bunch of 1/4 scale figures in my compound as they're just too imposing on my bar. I can fit in a lot of 7" inch figures though and then have plenty of maneuverability with them with regards to lighting them with mini-spotlights as I see fit.

Fortunately for me, according to NECA on twitter, the cost of manufacturing and selling a large variety of bigger scale figures is prohibitive at the moment, so in reality I won't be bothered with this issue for the foreseable future. :nana:

if the idea of owning dolls bothers you that much, you might wanna consider a new hobby.

for instance, stamps are much cheaper than dolls and don't call your maturity/sexuality into question. you will however be required to wear tweed jackets and own at least one cat.

I never said anything about a doll's effect on my sexuality, that's your conjecture. Anyway, I've said my piece and all I ask is that you please respect my opinion. Now, let's get back to the heart of this thread - awesome NECA Predators!

I don't really have the doll complex. Whenever a thought like that creeps into my head, I simply look at my Predator figures (either HT's releases or the 1/4 NECA P1) and that logical voice in my head starts saying "Um, yeah. That's definitely what one would call a doll." :cuckoo:

It actually boggles my mind how anyone could look at one of those and make that conclusion. I'm not even sure it could be called a figure, but at the moment, that's the closest and best all-around word we have for it. Doll, though? Huh, not like any dolls I've ever seen. Sometimes I think people would have to be blind, ignorant, or just short on vocabulary to label things like that.

Tonner, on the other hand... well, there's no saving them. :lol They openly refer to their products as dolls, because that's what they truly are and how they're supposed to be marketed. They're the one company in this hobby that puts out dolls in the classic -- and what should be the only -- sense of the word. More power to whoever collects them, of course. Just adding this part in for clarification.

the only difference between dolls and figures is marketing. if a boy is holding it, it's a figure. if a girl is holding it, it's a doll. same damn thing.
