I don't hate the speedbumps. I hate the weakness of what I'm hitting them with, and all of the reasons why what I'm hitting them with is as weak as it is.

I hear ya, I rolled my Nissan, totaling it, trying to avoid a dog. CHP's suggestion was that if it's not human and smaller than a deer, just run it over (though it's a misdemeanor to run over a licensed dog and not report it). After that, it's plow-time! :lol

I was told the same thing.... Of course I was 16 with two girls in the car speeding. I fish tailed, hit the curb and knocked the wheel right off my Trans Am. My excuse was that I was trying to avoid a cat. :slap

So by avoiding the p***y, you avoided some p***y :lol

I hit a big raccoon last night doing 70 and it ripped apart the front end of my car. I saw the body on my way home this morning and it wasn't even bleeding. My car took more visible damage than the animal did.

Whose idea was it to make cars out of plastic? Oh, right. Gas is the devil and sucking up to imaginary global environmental threats is more important than building safe cars.

Actually, it has less to do with that and more to do with, "I can make this car out of plastic and put even more money in my pocket."

You drive like a nun. :lol

If I had tried to avoid the raccoon, I would have been dead.

So government mandates for lower miles per gallon have nothing to do with it?

With how high gas prices have been - it seems many people prefer cars that have better gas mileage...especially those that have long commutes. Most people I know that have bought cars over the last 5 years - one of their top priorities was a car that had good gas mileage.

That car that hit me in high school - had plastic panels...that was well before these mandates...I think they've been making cars like this for quite awhile - use less expensive materials and charge the same or more money for the product.

And realistically - your panels probably would have had less damage if you were driving slower. ;) Or you can always get a vehicle like mine that gets around 19 mpg and costs me around $75 to fill up. You won't get damage hitting a raccoon - but the amount you spend in gas in the long run is probably a lot more than what you are going to spend to fix your panels. Either way it pretty much sucks. :lol

I was late for work.

And gas prices have been inflated artificially, but the trend toward making cars cheaper to conserve gas and make driving more affordable has been going on since the early 70's. It has as little legitimacy now as it did then.

Most people I know don't care of how legitimate it is...as long as they are saving money at the gas pump. :dunno You should get yourself a nice muscle car from the 60's-70's...now those are tough cars. :)

So...maybe I should direct my contempt toward those who are apathetic regarding the cause of high gas prices? If you identify the cause, you can change it, and then I might be able to afford to fill the tank of a real car. So would everyone else.

Just read an article that our lovely senators here in PA are going to start taxing the first $1.25 on the price of gas, and then slowly lift that cap to I'm assuming tax the total price, whatever it may be at that time. They project that bringing in $1.3 billion a year, to put towards the state's $3.5 billion highway debt.

Yep, just hit everyone where it really hurts, as if times aren't tough enough. Next, they'll just tax the calories in food.

Gas is a billion dollar business - you figure out how to lower prices, you let me know. ;) I have a feeling that those in the big oil business don't really care what regular people think. if you don't like their prices - then get yourself an electric car or don't drive. :dunno

If you know how to change all this - I'd be curious to see how it's working out - I'm sure many people would love to know how they can lower gas prices. Our mayor's advice to combat gas prices and gridlock is riding a bike or riding a bus. :lol

They should sell the roads off to private investors.

Please, they're trying like crazy to make PA's section of I-80 a toll road.

And I'm telling ya, if you ever travel and have to drive through PA, as soon as you cross the state line the roads are instantly terrible! Bunch of freaking crooks run this damn state

They should sell the roads off to private investors.

But then you would have tolls to pay...and they probably wouldn't be cheap. May even cost more than gas. :dunno I wouldn't think private investors wouldn't want to buy such a thing unless there was a way for them to profit from it.
