anyone besides me think the eyes are a tad too big for the BD head?

I hear alot about the eyes on the BD being too big. I don't think they're too big - they're just opened wider. They look fine to me - and as someone has already pointed out - if you have the pupils slightly turned downwards; it tends to make the eyes appear larger than they are because it projects a weird "glaring" look (too much white is seen above the pupils).

Also - my take is that yes this is BL all bruised and battered from battle; but it's also supposed to be BL in between filming takes. So I don't expect him to look intense (so his eyes would be relaxed like this).

You can see what I mean by position of the pupils giving the impression of eye size. The pupils on the left are pointed upward slightly. The pupils on the right are pointed downward slightly. Notice how the eyes look slightly larger on the right pic?

I'll get my best shots at the end of the day when the sunset is coming through my office window, and I'll get some full body shots then, but here, in the name of "pics or it didn't happen," are a few headshots. You can see that the smiling face has a paint rub on the chin, and the BD face has a slight nose rub. My old eyes are so shot I'll probably forget they're there.

Thanks for the pics Gruff! Regarding the rubs on the chin; in the past I've used fine steel wool to gently rub just the smudged area and it will slowly fade until it blends in with the area around it.

OR - you can use the steel wool to gently rub away all of the 5o'clock shadow on the chin (including the smudge) and then reapply your own.

...or you can send it back for the minty fresh one you paid over 300 dollars for.

Or of course you can do what Lejuan suggests :)

I don't want to push my OC tendencies onto anyone, sorry about that :lol

...but it's not just OC, it is practical as well. If Gruff wants to turn around and sell this figure sometime down the track, he won't be able to advertise it as 'mint' if he's taken to it with steel wool, even if the result is great. A small but prominent blemish like that will turn potential buyers off IMO.

You're right Lejuan. And no apology needed. :wink1:

I made the suggestion assuming that Gruff is the same type of collector that I happen to be. I don't plan to sell any of my figures (all going to my future son - lucky devil!). But of course - if keeping the figure mint is a concern; yeah - my solution isn't good for that.

:yess: Looks like I'm getting a free painted eyes head!

It may be good to be an a**h*le once in a while, but 90% of the time - I've found it pays to be diplomatic and supportive; even when you are criticizing.

Very nice! That second to the last BD pic looks amazing.

Man - I still don't see the resemblance to BL in the HT ETD. Looks like he's Spanish.

I actually like both sculpts very much. And yes, I was aiming for comedy in the Corsican-twins shot. It's easy when you have adjustable eyes.

Here's a more flattering look at the Hot Toys sculpt:

I am really pleased with both figures. I've been collecting Bruce figures since I first became interested in the hobby, and these, along with the 70's casual set coming soon, represent the culmination of a long endeavor.

NIce! Definitely better shot of the DX!

I think what throws the balance of the DX off is the nose. It's too much of a Roman nose on the DX - BL's nose is a weird almost too triangular shape from the front. The DX nose is also too long vertically and not wide enough at the nostrils. So I found when I had the DX was that it looked the most like BL when the face is turned downwards. The eyes are also off because of the upper lids. BL's lids protruded outwards slightly rather than being flushed like on the DX.

If we could get the paint details and sweat effects of the DX on the sculpting detail and accuracy of the EB - that would be the ultimate. But that's wishful thinking.

I like the BD sculpt a lot actually. The smiling sculpt I'm not sure about, every pic has something on his chin like a mole or something...what is that? :dunno

All these pics do is prove how difficult it is to nail Bruce's likeness. Depending on the light, the angle, the lens... you just can't judge the likeness properly until it's right there in your hot little hands.

Having said that, the smiling sculpt looks great in most shots. The DX sculpts look great from particular angles only, and I agree with Tinister that they didn't succeed in removing all the Spanish blood from Bruce's DNA. The EB BD head is hardest to judge because the likeness is so dependent on how the eyes are positioned.

Gruff can you please tell us if the EB and DX heads are compatible with each of the bodies? Awesome pics by the way, thanks for posting the very first in-hand shots - you've done a much better job than all the efforts we've seen to date in getting across what this figure is actually like in person. :clap
