The only things I really ignore are 99% of the comics and novels. Darn near everything else has something about it that makes it pretty sweet.

Yea...reading is for losers and nerds.. lol jk.. I dont get into the novels though or comics either...im on the movie, tv show kick with collecting as my outlet.

Well you've just gone and compartmentalised me into a 'camp' so I'm not the only one doing that. You happen to be right though - and I am unashamed. OT = good, PT = bad (again, fun adventure films but IMO poor if considered part of the SW universe, could have been so much better)
About the sense of there being stakes in ROTS. Only because it was predetermined by the story as we already knew it that the good guys would lose. No less predetermined than it was that the good guys would win in ROTJ. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point. If anything ROTJ ought to have seemed more tense since back then we didn't know exactly would happen, if anyone would die etc. With ROTS we did know before even seeing the film who would win and who would lose while the only surprising death (and surprising because it contradicts ROTJ and is pretty stupid in its own right) was Padme.
I believe the difference between childhood perception and adult expectation has been the inexhaustible fuel on this fire.

Its probably 95% for me. I was 7 when Star Wars hit the theater and I was a fan from the first scene. I had never seen a series of movies like them and growing up with them was my entire world. Then the PT comes out. I hated Phantom Menace, Clones was decent and really liked Sith (I'd put it on par with Jedi) but being an adult just made them feel different, they just didn't have the same punch as when I was a kid since all the wonder and "newness" was gone. It was fun to have a new SW series but it wasn't even close to the feeling of being 7 - 13 and watching the OT for the first time as a kid. Thats why the OT does and always will be better in my mind.
The stakes in ROTS had nothing to do with knowing the outcome. That's why I mentioned ANH. We've all seen it a hundred times and know the outcome all too well yet each time you view it you still get a sense of what can be lost. Owen and Beru, Obi-Wan, Alderaan, Biggs, etc.
Not one single good guy who actually has a name dies in ROTJ as a result of the conflict (except Vader, who only becomes a good guy the last second of the conflict.) That's not the case with any other film in the saga. Regardless of whether or not you know the outcome, when Luke casually flicks idiotic Skiff guards into the Sarlacc by the wrist and a blind man flails wildly killing the deadliest bounty hunter in the galaxy you just know the rest of the film is going to be a cakewalk, and it is.
An awesome cakewalk (let me reiterate that I *do* love ROTJ) but not quite as good as the best of the PT.

1) The sense of fun & community each movie generated...from collecting to conventions to seeing the movies with a totally charged audience...nothing like it.
2) The fantastic and ever-interesting design work of Chaing, Tiemens, Bigger, McCaig and the whole team that created the layered, well considered and densely detailed worlds I still enjoy exploring with every viewing.
4) AOTC - the story, the characters, the worlds, the whole package, warts-n-all. The whole saga takes it's darkest turns here and it's the most unconventional "Star Wars" movie of all and I love it.
5) Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn....his leonine nobility paired with a wild west appeal make him one of the most interesting Jedi ever...

I really didn't like this movie when I first saw it back in 2002. I didn't like it that much that didn't watch it again until ROTS came out and than again a few months ago with my son and I now think it's really a underrated movie. I really enjoyed it this time around. It flows really well and the last 45 minutes of the movie is filled with a lot of good action scenes. ROTS is still my favorite of the PT but ATOC is now enjoyable for me to watch as much as the others are. The PT is really good stuff and I'm just happy that I have 6 movies that enjoy watching and collect as well

The only part I really hate in AOTC was the Anakin/Padme crap.
Hmm, alright I can't argue that. I think you're right, no main characters or even any previously known background characters like Wedge get killed in Jedi. Theres only 2 deaths of note, Vader and....an ewok! Still, I guess I'm just predisposed to preferring Jedi over Sith. That'll simply never change.
I love Qui-Gon Jinn, and Neesons performance. Probably for me the highlight of the Prequels. Trouble is I think the character was completely unnecessary and ultimately got in the way of the the more important story to be told - Anakin and Ob-wan.

AOTC had excellent action sequences. I loved Obi-wan VS Jango at Kamino, the asteroid sequence and most of the Geonosis battle.
