I don't see how the padded envelope keeps shipping costs down since:

A) Our shipping cost doesn't seem to have changed and…
B) … the box they ship in is almost exactly the same size as the product so…

…do they just save a few cents on the packaging itself? Are padded envelopes slightly cheaper than boxes? I can't imagine the actual cost from the shipper (UPS or whoever) is any cheaper.

I think it's a few cents cheaper but not much I'm sure some bean counter over at Matty HQ can justify it as helping their bottom line.

I have no idea what the actual deal is but I've always felt like Mattel is trying to maintain the same sort of profit margins they get on their mass market toys so they're handling things kind of badly with MOTUC. If it was some smaller company making these I have to imagine they'd be cheaper and I know the shipping would be cheaper. It doesn't cost $8.50-10 to ship a package of that size via UPS, especially if you're a big company with a shipping deal. More like $4-6.

These figures end up costing me $30 each after shipping which is kind of crazy as I know has been stated and re-stated over and over.

The figure's quality is never a sticking point with me. It's always what I expect from Mattel. It's the price, shipping in particular, that bugs the ____ out of me.

I have argued this before, but it makes me a bad guy for saying anything

Lodgistics and UPS shipping are and have been exactly the same in price...when ordering a product seperately on Matty..I been getting the same charge as UPS,but my items have been shipped by Lodgistics (supposedly a cheaper cost)...I have two subs and 2 figures cost $10.55 to be shipped...bought two figures seperately on the same month and it was shipped by lodgistics and guess what? it cost $10.55 (but took longer to reach me).....then we read this statement by Toyguru

What changed was the third tier characters on second release are not selling as well so we are going to pull back a bit on the number of figs that get a reissue starting in late fall and going into 2012. The more stock we have on hand the higher the storage charge which then gets passes to customers through shipping and handeling. And we want this to be as low as possible." (they even admitted it)

now can some of you see that Mattel is trying to cut costs anyway they can or add more costs over to the customer? but mostly everyone is blinded by the "cool" figures they get each month and dont want see the hidden costs we are paying.(the figures are already high priced).we ALL love the line, but I dont like being lied to,especially being taken from my wallet

I agree on that aspect. Storage charges shouldn't be included in shipping charges. I mean, that's just weird. I don't know of anyone that does that. Neither should packing or anything like that. As an online only direct sale business those costs should be included in your general overhead costs. I am no business major at all, I don't really have any idea what I'm talking about but from what little I know that's the observations I have made.

Sideshow for example, to the best of my knowledge, charges actual shipping costs. Not some inflated fee with hidden cost that cover things not directly related to shipping.

By putting those costs in the shipping you're falsely advertising a lower per-unit price because you're hiding those costs elsewhere. Actually I have see this before… with sellers on eBay.

Not a big fan of MOTU, but I wish I would have gotten Panthor, as well as a Skeletor to go with him... they just look awesome together. Anyone have any extras?

Nope sorry :)
