Okay, so you're hip to the new process featured in the German soldier PF. That is the trend with 12", and it just so happened that I started painting with Sideshow about the time they were ready to give it a go. They gave me some sample heads to see what I could do with them, and they loved what I came back with. The Hawk prototype will actually have my first 12" head on it done in this way.

If Jason looks as good as Gandalf did then I will be 100% satisfied!

Gandalf is incredible. I think Jason came out even better (biased maybe?). Its even got the veins in the skin.

Damn it, SS, you're setting the bar awfully high! I best not get my hopes up, the dissapointment will be to much of it doesnt arrive as awesome as you are leading me to believe.

I am. It was cool to hear them talk about the new process and how excited they seemed by it. Well, from what I saw of the German PF and what you've shown it appears it should be going well with this process. So I'm really looking forward to seeing how Hawk comes out because as I said the process looked great on the PF.

This is great news especially considering how things have been with figures like Beachhead, Rex, and the Red Ninja. Though, I've loved the joe lines look as a whole so far.

Silentsurfer? If you don't mind me asking. I think Sideshow has come a long way on their head sculpts in the last year. I'm fairly new to this hobby and from what I saw pre 2010 was nowhere near what Hot Toys was producing. Now it seems like Sideshow is catching up. Does Sideshow just not have the talented artist like HT's does or is it production paint or is it something else? Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Captain Rex and Beachhead are prob two of the best sculpts I've seen from Sideshow imo.

This guy brings back too many fond memories from my childhood. Had to order him. My first Joe SS figure. Now bring on the Crimson Guard.

The biggest advantage HT has is that they are located in China. They can communicate better with the factories and literally oversee the process personally. Sideshow is half a world a way and there certainly has to be a communication barrier to overcome as well. And all of that just comes naturally for HT. But it is good to see that Sideshow is start to 'catch up' as you said.

That's great news to hear Silentsurfer. If the production runs start turning out consistently as good as Gandalf then we are all in for a real treat. Finally sideshow will be able to match the quality of the paint with the quality of the sculpts that is already present. Gandalf is the best paints apps from sideshow that I have seen and if you're saying that more and more products are going to turn out like him, then I'm stoked. Great to hear that you actually think the Jason pf is BETTER than Gandalf. This thing must look amazing.

And if this really works out in the 12", then I'll truly have no money. Paychecks straight to SS.

I've felt the Joe line is as good as anything HT has done especially military in the weapons, outfits, and extras you get with the figure. Overall, I've been really happy with the paint apps and yes they've had a few with an issue or two (nothing major to ruin the figure) but assuming things go the way of the German PF then they are about to IMO match HT step 4 step.

Well, if what I saw at Sideshow today is any indication, I have good expectations that stuff from here on out may look much closer to the prototypes. I just saw the Jason Voorhees PF I painted, but when I got closer to it, I noticed one slightly different detail that nobody but me could have possible noticed that told me it wasn't actually the prototype I painted. What I thought was my own work was a production sample of the Jason PF from China, and I was blown away by how 99.5% close to my work it actually was. I was not disappointed in it at all, and I painted the original. It's taken time, and a lot of trips by Sideshow staff to China, but China is really getting it now. Jason looked incredible, and I believe they can pull off these heads. Only time will tell, but I'm very confident in them right now.

I have to agree with that. It seems to me that Sideshow has really upped the ante. I have always been satisfied with their product and I have had little complaint. I am actually one who could not care less if my Han Solo figure looks like Harrison Ford. But I do like them to look as good as possible. And there are undeniable improvements overall. I would like to hear what Sideshow has to say about this. I wonder if they use the same production companies in China as other designers such as Hot Toys do.

Anyway...Make Mine Sideshow!

well if the heads do start coming out closer to the prototypes then I am fine with the $5 increase

Favorite or ranking?

Hasbro Favorite? Trooper > Officer > Viper

SS Favorite? Trooper > Officer > Viper

Cobra Rank? Officer > Trooper > Viper

No, as far as ranking,

Officer > Viper > Trooper.

"Those COBRA Troopers that survive and prove their worth on the battlefield eventually attain the rank of VIPER. As a testament to their loyalty to COBRA, they are adorned with metal faceplates similar to that of COBRA COMMANDER's personal battle gear to hide their identities. They are more heavily armored than lower-ranking troopers because they often thrust into the most dangerous of missions."

I still need to pick up an Officer figure. I kept procrastinating, and then eventually just completely forgot about him. I'm a good 7 or so figures behind in the Joes collection.

missed a few good deals from hastings on the officer. I think I got him for like $40, IIRC. GOt the trooper for $26.
