To recap :
There are 2 kinds of fans out there
1- The Hot Toys fans who have preordered and are keeping their fingers crossed that the headsculpt, hat, belt, whip and shoes _________( add anything else) will improve... oh and the price will come down.

or

2 The Trevor Grove fans , who refuse to pay 250 bucks for this HT abomination since they have already sent Trevors far superior sculpt off to a $100 professional painter, replaced the body with a $ 30 Hot Toys (of all brands) body, purchased a STEVOs $ 40 rig or an MFisher $30 whip, $ 40 belt, $ 30 holster, whip keeper etc. + hundreds of $ for Kato jackets and shirts or are ordering up a cigar smelling jacket from the other customizer that will take 2 years to make,
and are p___d at those who have already preorderd
..but will save the 250 they would have spent on Indy to use toward a possible Sallah, Belloq and Marcus (the Oscar Goldman of the francise) if they have'nt already spent it on 2 custom (painted) Marion heads (outfits and bodyto be determined later)

Does that about sum it up ?

;-) jim

You forgot 0.5: Blind fanboys who see absolutely nothing wrong simply because it's Hot Toys and/or Arnie Kim and have preordered this ridiculing everyone who's voiced any concern whatsoever about the product.

Then there's 3: Douchebags with absolutely no interest in this release nor the Indy license as a whole but are just popping in this thread to add their worthless 2 pesos in an effort to belittle the members and stir up ____ to pamper their own pathetically inflated ego.

I think they improved the hat from the first time this figure was shown:

Big pimpin' Indy style! "_____ gotta earn. Don' make me pistol whip yo ass ho!" :rock:rock:rock

:rotfl

Whenever I feel HT are letting us down, I'll just remember this picture. It'll give me a lift!

I think it's even funnier than the Kenner version.

Category 4. The fan who will accept absolutely anything!

We all had to start somewhere, LOL!

CHEERS!

There was a time when 3 3/4" Bespin Han had to stand in for Indy; Hoth Leia for Marion; Imperial Commanders for German officers; and Action Force Red Shadow Troopers for German soldiers.

Happy days of innocent imagination. :)

Now we can't help but check for the correct number of hairs on Indy's chest. Though, if they're charging $250, I think we have every right to count and double count each hair! :wink1:

what's up with that punisher? :rotfl

He appears to have that 7:1 head/shoulder width ratio that somebody mentioned in a Joker thread recently!

It's actually a new Hot Toys prototype, and due to the high quality sculpt and material used, it will be priced in the $300 range. :lol

As funny as it may seem, that Kenner sculpt actually resembles Harrison Ford quite well.

I think what bugs most people is how right HT can get it when they want to. The Godfather looked like Brando standing there, Aldo Raine looks like Brad standing there.

Indy should look like Harrison Ford standing there and NOT a waxwork of Vic Armstrong! The true Indy fan wants the best, and if that now means bashing our own then so be it!

CHEERS!

The childish ridicule you speak of has been pretty prevalent on both sides of this "debate." And as mentioned, there has been a "blind fanboyism" toward Grove's 1/6 sculpt, as well. I figure we should be able to respect that some folks like this for whatever reason without tossing around pejoratives. As few have disputed, this is probably going to be the best, "out of the box" Indy figure we're going to get, and many folks are going to accept that without feeling entitled to the perfect figure.

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Too often people are slammed for liking something, or disliking something, but you can't force people to go down one route or another. There's no point denying yourself something you want, or buying something just because you feel you have to fit in.

If something's glaringly wrong, you hope that everyone else will see it as well. But that isn't always the case, as demonstrted so remarkably well by this thread.

Constructive criticism may induce another more critical look, but it isn't a surefire way of changing a point of view.

We all have an image of what looks right.

Indeed we do,

If SSC had released this as their figure we would have praised it to the skies as it would have been better than what was out there at the time. Things have moved on, HT raised the bar and our expectations. It's when they fail to live up to them that things start to happen.

CHEERS!

Expectation is the thing with this one. When Sideshow brought out theirs, thoughts moved on to 'what if Hot Toys made a version?'

Now they have, it isn't what we were expecting, which is doubly disappointing. However, I'm quietly confident that they'll improve it. Hoping that HT still have some pride in their work.

Yeah, wasn't Shorty always praying to his gods, maybe we should offer some to ours!? I will buy one HT boxed figure in my lifetime, whether it's this is doubtful.

CHEERS!

I see what you're trying to do, but you're wrong. Strip both sculpts of paint and there's no doubt when you see them, which one looks more like Indy. Additionally, comparing both wardrobes, you'll see the same. The bottom line is, at $90, whatever minor errors the Grove sculpt and wardrobe had are forgivable. At $250, whatever errors HT's has are not. Hot Toys' figure is nearly three times the price of Sideshows. I don't see the error in expecting a figure with nearly three times the quality. :huh

But everything is in the eye of the beholder right? You can argue you like something more than the other, but someone else can argue the same exact opposite. I don't like Trevor's 1/6 sculpt, but I do feel like his PF sculpts are amazing. I think HT's head sculpt is better than Sideshows 1/6th (could be because of the paint or for whatever reasons, but I have no desire to send him out and pay $100 to get him to look good). And, I have seen many repaints of the Sideshow version and I think I still prefer HT's factory paint to those.

Sure if there are changes that need to be made to the clothing, I agree - for the price, everything should be accurate.

And when you said most fans have the pedestal... they don't. I'm sure this accessory is welcomed by more people than people who are pissed cause they already have Sideshows.

This is true for the HT fans jumping on board because it's HT. But most of the people in this particular area of the SSF boards, who would drop $250 on Indy, have it already. Given you don't spend any time here, I can see how this would be news to you. While a lot did purchase Belloq, there were also those who purchased the Ex just for the pedestal, as was evident by the responses earlier in the thread. :wink1:

I actually visit this forum quite a bit and have read a lot about the people who purchased that crappy Belloq figure just for the pedestal. But for them to complain about HT doing it too is kind of childish and self centered. There are 100x the # of collectors who did not buy Belloq for the pedestal. Plus, I think Sideshows is more accurate so who cares? HT making it too is not a kick in their face or them cheaping out/half ass-ing this figure.

I still think HTs is overpriced but everything is going up in price, can't say i'm surprised.
