Is it me or is it true the Sideshow 12' figures are not commanding anything on the aftermarket anymore ?

Other than the premium format, many I think all the Sideshow 12' are worth probably as much as the old playmate figures

The Planet of the apes line is like going for like $20 other than maybe 1-2 that can get a bit more

The James Bond is the only one a bit better but I now see some of the Bond goin for at most $50-$75

The Universal monsters even the Creature I see now going for less than $100 MIB

The Platoon with the exeception is going for no more than $100 MIB

Have they really dropped this much or is it the economy or are they just not worth any $$$

:monkey2

Cheers

I'd say most seem to hold around their original value... but sure a lot have dropped, but also a lot have appreciated.

Gotta remember, the majority of them were in the $40 price range... its only after they got the SW license that the prices really started shooting up and we also saw less and less figures made per year.

I guess I was hoping my sideshow collection would someday get me that new red benz

All kidding aside, the custom figures is where it is at and I see the Enterbay, keaton Bat and the Clint stuff is what many niche collectors still want I guess

If you're comparing it to 2006 going rates, everything was superinflated back then. Just be glad you weren't buying houses back then. And we're in the friggin slump now, it's not a sellers market in any commercial area right now. Most people who aren't addicted to plastic aren't willing to spend what they were 3 or 4 years ago until things settle down financially here and abroad.

One of the things to remember about the older figures is that they also produced a lot more. So seeing a Frankenstein for $20 (which I think was retail :lol) isn't too surprising as they were actually sold at retail shops, compared to the smaller ES we see today.

You know it is still odd because I am a big Enterbay B Lee guy and I still see some rare B lee being sold for $500-$750 each and they are gone in days

But the Sideshow stuff is just sitting. Hottoys still get a lot of $$

I recently sold a C Reeve Superman for $250 and this one close in 2 days

EnterBay B LEE will never drop

It will just keep going up . Look at the ETD version A and B.. these will never dropped below $500

Not to worry! One day it will be the same with HT! All those figs are so overpriced! It's understandable that every new and better fig makes the previous one's price drop.

Now, in, say, 20/30 years, all these, even the crappiest ones will be very sought after! Look at the GI Joes and the price they sell on EBay!

You just can't compare Sideshow 1:6 to Enterbay or Hot Toys like that, they are different in retail prices and different in terms of quality. Most Sideshow 1:6 are actually not high end collectibles if you think about it. Neca sells their 18" line figures for $40 retail, which is pretty close to what Sideshow 1:6 retails for.

Think about it this way, if a Sideshow 1:6 retails for $20 and is now at $40, its value actually went up double. That's the same deal when a Neca figure goes up from $15 to $40 value, it's more than double what it's originally worth. Hot Toys retails at like $170 and it may go up to $210, but it actually only went up 1/4 in terms of its value.

And you're saying why Sideshow 1:6 is only $40 bucks now a days, well no one is going to pay $200 bucks for what is originally a $20 figure, that's not the same as someone paying $200 for a $170 Hot Toys figure.

If you were honestly hoping to earn some kind of interest in your investment though, go with Sideshow for statues and busts, and Hot Toy / Enterbay for 1:6 figures. That's where the money is at:)

And even though logic seems to imply that the economy is the reason here, I don't think that's true because you have people paying $400+ for HT predators and $500+ for Enterbay Bruce Lee, and they sell like hot cakes and it's happening at a daily basis, which is pretty insane if you think about what collectors are willing to spend even with this kind of economy. So no the economy is definitely not the reason why Sideshow 1:6 don't sell, mostly it's because Sideshow is at 4th or 5th place in the 1:6 market right now, so their level of demand is just about the same as Triad Toys these days. :)

Yea, so?

I collect for the enjoyment of them, not for aftermarket value.

:goodpost:

If people want to invest they need to go look at the bulls and bears... and get out of this HOBBY.

I buy what I like and what I want-- I could care less what someone is going to value it at five ten-- or even twenty years from now. :slap

Never know. It might when Hot Toys version is released . . .

He's right - collectible values drop dramatically when an improved version gets released. Remember the ridiculous prices the Toys McCoy 1:6 Indiana Jones figure was commanding a few years ago? They've definitely dropped since Sideshow released its own 1:6 scale Indy.

The same'll probably happen with Sideshow's Charlie Sheen figure from Platoon when the Hot Toys version comes out. Luckily, there's no word that HT plans on re-doing all the figures from Platoon...yet.

I hope they do, so I can complete the Sideshow G.I. Joe 12" figures! :) They are still priced pretty average-ish for a 12" figure, so I wouldn't think they are dropping by the day.. Maybe the old ones. :dunno

And yeah.. I agree on a lot of the statements here.

I buy figures to collect them, not to invest on them and sell in the not-too-distant future.. If you think about the aftermarket value of your toys whenever you buy, then you're not a toy collector.. You are simply a businessman in the hobby. :lecture
