Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Well, from the position of HT getting the message that this is a real problem, I would love to just see everyone contact their dealers to inquire about getting it replaced and fixed, but based on wookster's latest insider info, it seems that they are getting the message, even if the CS responses to customers aren't indicating it.

So at this point, I think either starting a replacement talk or leaving it be are the two best options of what's been tossed around, just a matter of whether people want to put all their money on black or red.

At least DC folks should be all set by May, third time's a charm right :lol

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I was going back through the thread a bit and I know i'm late to the party but, MF, those were some fantastic shots you took!!

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Thanks ro, I wish I could borrow your diorama pieces for a shoot.

If you ever make your way to Chi-Town, I'd love for you to. I
can't seem to do them proper justice.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Considering the trend that Ro is going to snatch up all the best dios it's better for Ro to pick up some photography skills as well. Bro I am serious though taking slightly more interesting shots really took this hobby to the next level of enjoyment. Gotto do it especially you!!
My excuse investing in photogear was that I need to practice for future documentation of a kid and I know you can do just the same :D

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I'm still waiting for someone to just make a nice, generic, metal table in 1/6 scale at least, I could use it for the interrogation, or even other lines. You'd think something common and unlicensed like that would exist out there, but no luck finding one, and I don't have the skills to make one.

There's been a number of diorama pieces I'd like to get for photos, but don't see myself really enjoying them as much when it's just sitting on the shelf, and a few photos aren't worth hundreds of dollars.

In my current setup, I struggle to try and give some sort of backdrop to shots to make it feel like there's some context for the shot instead of just being a lone figure or two standing there.

Indeed. If you want to take good photographs, you can learn to do so, the only road block you might his is acquiring the higher end gear, but even with the lower end you can learn to maximize its capabilities.

When I got my first digital camera I just took random photos of stuff to use for composites, as just photographs they sucked, didn't know anything about lighting or settings or even concern for composition.

Yeah, you're right about that, Jeff!! I need to look into getting a nice camera.

Yeah, you're right about that, Jeff!! I need to look into getting a nice camera.

My personal taste, look at Canon. My first digital was a Nikon, worked nice, but I found the Canon I upgraded to from it to be much easier to work with, and now my Canon DSLR is just wonderful, the color and quality it can achieve is great, I remember when I first got it, how much a leap from the point and shoot Canon I had that it made.

Better camera's don't always mean better photos though. Sometimes "poorer" image quality from lower end cameras can make for more interesting shots that a higher end camera would need work in Photoshop or something like that to achieve.

The biggest things to look for in a camera looking to get really nice shots are manual control of shutter speed, F stop and ISO level, those are the 3 main controls for how the camera handles lighting and different combinations of them will get you different results.

Tripod is also a very worthwhile investment as it will allow you to get shots with natural lighting instead of in camera flash.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Thanks for those tips!! I'll keep them in mind when I'm in the market for a camera. Right now, I'm just using a Sony Cybershot 8.1 megapixel camera. It's the wife's.
:) I just found out I'm gonna be a dad last week. A new camera will definitely come in handy!!

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Well, flip through the manual for it and see if it offers you manual control over the settings I mentioned. With a little research and practice, like I said, you can get a lot out of even the point and shoot type cameras, but if you're not looking for that control when you get the camera, you pretty much just figure out how to use the defaults and never realize what more you could do with it because it serves the purpose you need it to.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I know you got the budget so go for T2i :D. Good thing is the auto mode will carry you through the initial phase of being just a better P&S but when you start realizing that you want more you move on to semi auto modes and suddenly you are all experimental manual :). Just be prepared to spend more on lenses but I think there is sime good and affordable stuff coming out. I use some led potlights a lot but will start looking into better solution soon. But you will need a fast wide lens for taking indoor pics and vids of your upcoming member but you can pratice on your figures :D Just remember to not forget about this hobby

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Speaking of lenses, that's another thing I like with Canon. I don't follow Nikon or other DSLR makers, but I do know with Canon, most of the lenses are compatible among their models, so while they're pricey, if you ever get to the point of upgrading your camera, or should the camer break down, your lenses should still be usable, so they're expensive, but they'll also likely stay with you a lot longer than the camera.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Of course not, Jeff!! Getting back on topic, I'm happy to report that both heads came without any head warping or paint flaking on the suit. The sonar eyes look pretty sweet.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

MF he needs a DSLR :D new born you gotto avoid flash photography. He also will want a good VCam so the latest T2i will do that as well :D
I think Canon is coming out with an affordable 25mm 1.7?

It's great that Canon does that. It keeps the other lenses from becoming obsolete. Cool.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

The sonar eyes turned out great, but I wonder, could they have achieved a glowing look with just paint. That head's pretty weird looking unless you turn on the lights, so why not make the eyes in a way that requires no power. In photographing it, I found that they'd only stay bright for so long and then slowly start to dim, but then if you shut it off for awhile and turn it back on, it'd be bright again, same thing happens with my Mark 3 Iron Man, wonder if it's a built in featur to keep from burning the batteries out.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

My Mark I does the same thing. After being on for a few minutes, the light dims and then after a little longer. It goes out completely. After turning it off and on again. It's fine.

You actually don't need a DSLR for flashless photography, all you need is a camera with manual control. My first Canon was just an advanced point and shoot.

This looks like the current model from Canon with manual control and a shoe mount for an external flash, which is something I have too. External flashes allow you to bounce the flash off walls and ceilings to cast the light indirectly on the subject, a nice thing to have so if you need help from a flash, the photos will still look nicer.

One thing I miss from my P&S that the DSLR doesn't have is the swing out LCD screen, when you're 6'2 and trying to take low angle shots, it saves you having to be crouched a lot.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

My new M2 chest light was din out of the box. I opened up the batt compartment and was ready to get new ones but realized there was some oxidization on the battery, cleaned it an it lights were bright as it should be. Maybe check yours as well
