Since we seem to be compiling lists of this sort, here's my question to all of you:

What movies did you dislike or downright hate on first viewing but then came to enjoy after watching it again later on down the road.?

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - I thought it was absolutely horrible when I saw it on opening night. Then last Christmas, Best Buy had the Blu-Ray for 50% off, so I figured "Why not?" I actually consider it to be my second favorite Indy movie now (Raiders of course being first). Yes, there are still parts that really irritate me, but I found myself enjoying the overall movie and think the alien theme was executed very well.

Titan A.E. - Not sure why it disappointed me in theaters. Maybe I was expecting more action. In any event, I decided to grab the DVD when it came out, and I consider it one of the coolest animated sci-fi films I've ever seen.

The Fog - Watched it at 3 am on a Saturday night in college and thought it was the dullest, most uneventful horror movie I'd ever seen. Tried it again a few years later, and now it's mandatory viewing during Halloween (along with Halloween)

Star Wars Trilogy - Yep, this big SW fan actually didn't care for the story back in the day. Thought the whole "it is your destiny" motif was ridiculous. When I got older and could understand the mythology more is when I became a fan. I always did like the action though.

Napolean Dynamite for me. I actually turned it off the first time. I grew to love this movie though.

Alien3 (not on 2nd viewing but some years later)

Sphere

Eh, doesn't necessarily have to be second viewing (technically, I liked Crystal Skull on the third go because I saw it back-to-back in theatres opening night because 1) my wife wanted to go and 2) I was in denial over how bad it was).

And Sphere I just watched yesterday on Encore. Still can't figure out how a veteran director, all-star cast, and a fantastic Michael Crichton story still ended up being...that!

Big Lebowski and Jackie Brown are the big ones. I saw both in the theater, and didn't really get either one on first viewing. Of course, now I love them both as amongst the best by the respective creative teams involved. Those experiences helped to teach me not to have pre-conceived expectations about a movie. You can't expect Pulp Fiction going into Jackie Brown.

All Will Ferrell movies! I hated them at first....I thought I had to be a Frat boy to understand why it was funny! But...on the second try..i realized that they're fawking hilarious! Especially Anchorman! Elf still sux tho! =P

Hellboy 2 turned it off but then was told to watch it all and i'm glad i did it was ace! :lol

The underworld movies. I'm still not a massive fan of them but enjoyed the first and second a whole lot more the second time round. I'll have to catch the third eventually.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby (3rd viewing)

Hot Fuzz

Fear And Loathing Las Vegas

The Royal Tenenbaums

These are the ones I can think of right now.

-Iron Man,disliked it when i watched it on my computer, then a friend of mine bought it on Blu-Ray so we watched it again in full surround and i loved it this time, amazing sound effects.
-Underworld 1
-Big Lebowski

And believe it or not,i didn`t like First Blood when i was a kid, because i always pictured Rambo as the macho kick ass machine like in Rambo 2 and 3.Now,First Blood is one of my favourite movies.

Blade Runner. I simply did not 'get it' on the first viewing. Watched it again a few months down the line, loved it, bought the fin al cut blu ray and it is now one of my all time faves.

The Fith Element. Found it dead boring first time, but enjoyed it and got the humour in it on second veiwing.

Chronicles Of Riddick. I thought it was way to long and epic compared to first one on first veiwing, but came round to the idea second time.

The Dark Knight. I had my expectations set far to high after enjoying Begins so much. All the hype for Dark Knight didn't help either. After watching for second time on Blu-ray it was much better.

Freddy vs Jason
Hellboy

Had different expectations with both and didnt like either on first viewing.

Believe it or not......The Fellowship of the Ring. I had just broken up with my boyfriend at the time and I really wasn't in to it and thought it was blah. Now the whole Trilogy is my all time favorite.

Anger Management. I dunno why, I hated it first time, but now i'll watch it everytime its on.

I still have no idea why I enjoy it....
