Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

OK,
I'm a little lost, I just got in from work.
Is the price listed anywhere like on the SSC site?
How do we know what the exclusive is?
The most important question...
When does this beauty go on sale????
:chew

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

LOL! What a joke! If they're gonna do it so half-assed, why make an interior design at all?

As far as I know they never made a detailed version of the inside of the ROTJ mask, so I assume it's just an artists interpretation. I don't think it would be realistic to expect them to recreated the ROTS version, especially since it'll be hidden 99% of the time.

Reports from the show floor are filling us in on the price, exclusive and release date.

We have no idea when it will go on sale--there are Star Wars preorders on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It could be any of those days.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

I'm not bothered by what it looks like inside and hell, the ROTS design would likely be at least $100 more.

I swear I've seen interior design for the mask before, either a behind the scenes image or maybe the Riddel mini helmet has it, I'd have to dig that piece out of storage.

Like I said when I posted the photos, I'm just curious where the details came from, actual reference or creative design, it'd be cool to know if they had fleshed out a design for inside back when they made Jedi.

Ahhh OK
Thanks for the info.
I just pray that I don't miss the pre-order for this bad boy!
And the release date is July of next year?
That'll give them time to work out any kinks, I don't see too many though.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

Got it. I collect to have the piece to myself, I never worry about factors in resale, I'll only ever sell pieces if I'm in dire need of money.

Retailers will be interested in it holding it's value if they end up sitting on any for an extended period of time.

You're the rocket scientist, you figure it out.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

It just occurred to me, the Shaw head is removable, if the collar on the Vader helm can be moved also, I wonder if the neck of the bust woudl allow you to turn the head so if you setup the Vader helmet with no head inside, you could reposition which way Vader's looking.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

That would be amazing. It amounts to articulation. Wow.

So the Shaw head, and the masked head are interchangable?

No, it's confirmed the Shaw head comes off the bust, there's a mount for it inside the collar.

Probably has to do with shipping and protection, and since you wouldn't see where it joins, no big deal to have a seam, Grievous' head came off the shoulders too.

My curiousity is though, will the collar part be permanently fixed, and if it's not, is the neck inside it done in such a way you could rotate the collar and reposition the mask and just tuck the Shaw head away some where and have the option to pose Vader's head looking anywhere you want.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

I see what you're saying about the head turning.

What I missed was that the mask is actually removable from the head sculpt. I was afraid that there were two heads being used to achieve the reveal function.

So this has atleast four pieces to it? Dome, mask, head, collar/shoulders? Potentially five if the collar is a separate piece from the shoulders?

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

Yup, so far, it is definitely:

- Shaw Head
- Mask
- Helmet
- Bust

Exclusive version also comes with a stand to display the mask and helmet when wanting ot show off the Shaw portrait.

Something like this setup.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

I hate the fact that I have to make a decision between this and the eFx TIE Fighter and TIE Interceptor.

I could always sell an extra internal organ and get all three.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

The price tag on this has me really hoping I don't like the design of the ALIENS maquette, it'll probably cost the same, and given the price, only one item $1000+ can go into my budget, Vader would win out in that event, but if I don't even want to buy the ALIENS piece, no need to debate or be bummed on letting one go lol. I'd probably order both, just incase financials take a turn fot the positive.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

I've never been into 1:1 busts, and I've been drooling over the possibility of eFx TIE's (Fighter, Interceptor, and eventually a Bomber) ever since the Interceptor was announced, and there's no way I'll let anything get in the way of those. They are my favorite starfighter designs in all of science fiction/fantasy and to miss out on replicas of them, of that high a quality, would be something I could never forgive myself for.

But seeing this...it's sooooo awesome.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

Why did SS not give this bust a chain for the cape?, looks like some cheap stamped out piece of sheet metal.

For me, it started with Maul, it wasn't so much that it was a 1:1 bust, it was just an amazing piece depicting one of my all time favorite characters in film, so I got that, and once I saw it in person, my brain immediately got spinning as to what other Star Wars characters I'd like to see done this way (at the time I don't think any other film I like was getting 1:1 treatment so I only thought of Star Wars).

So, in mulling it over, considering what the scale would offer, and price and space, I came up with a short list of characters that I would love to have done in 1:1 busts by Sideshow.

That list is:

Emperor Palpatine
Darth Vader
General Grievous
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Darth Maul

I had Maul of course, but those 5 I would love to be able to gaze over at in my collection and see in life size beauty.

I thought I would be doing good with 3 out of 5 with Grievous announced last year, Obi-Wan doesn't seem likely, and last I knew, licenses stood in the way of Vader. I had a theory that when eFX took over the prop license, that could change, I'm assuming it's why Vader is now a reality.

Darth Vader life size bust is a dream piece of mine, the kind you'd give up many other things for before parting ways or passing over him for, and add to it, it features the reveal of Shaw's Skywalker, one of the most treasured scenes in all of Star Wars for me, this is just an amazing collectible I would hate to miss out on.

I probably could sell things between now and his shipping, but that's hard to do, everything I've ever bought was because it meant something to me to have it, at least in high end stuff of the past 5 years or so, some old Hasbro stuff was just because I bought everything :lol

Oh well, see what the future holds, I'm just riding the high of this piece even being reality right now.

I believe all the Vader capes used a chain like this bust, I don't think it was ever actually curved, typical chain like we're used to seeing, just followed a link design.
