Well, I'm going to sleep soon, so here's my Ape Pics of the day. It was fun pulling these guys out again. These are a little over exposed for my liking and there are still some hot spots on the wagon, but hey, I didn't have all night :(

Address: 6356 Hollywood Blvd. (at Ivar) on the second floor
Time: 4:00 PM
RSVP with your name and # in your party to: [email protected]

Movie screening will begin promptly at 4:30 PM. Cinespace is being
transformed by an award-winning Hollywood production designer into a
fabulous ape-scape! Pose for pictures with apes in full authentic
makeup and costumes! Also, enter to win fabulous POTA raffle prizes
from 20th Century Fox!

I would love to go, too!! But...I really have to finish my outfit first.

I still have to find the fake leather part of Zira's jacket or just recreate it. Thank goodness I have enough fabric. That was the hardest part of the damned jacket. If I can't find it in the next three days I will recreate it on Saturday/Sunday. And, my grease makeup came, so I can start painting up details to Zira's foam latex appliance.

Glad you like it DZ.

Jess,
This sounds very cool. Are you going? How far away is that from you? Two hours? I bet you'd be on the news. :)

I'm thing about making a promotional circus banner for my wagon. Any suggestions on what it should say?

Wow...so I checked out the mini rubber mask grease palette that I ordered and couldn't help but rub some on the back of my hand (mixed dark brown with black) cause that's what I'm going to rub on the back of my hands for Wondercon. Looks like I have a bruise now on my hand...but...the makeup smells fantastically delicious! I don't know why but it's making my mouth water (and I already ate my avocado/cheese sandwich for lunch). I am such a freak!!!

Fellow Ape Freaks, I'm looking for a source for pics of the saddles used by the Gorilla soldiers in the movies and/or TV show. After watching POTA tonight some scenes looked like they were using "English" saddles with the seats coved by wool blankets. Anyone know a source for reference material on this subject? I'd like to kit bash a couple of horses for my HT Gorilla Army.

Someone who had more knowledge than me regarding saddles rewatched the POTA DVD, and from their perspective it looked like at least a couple of the background saddles used were western saddles with the horns removed, but from some of the other screen references, it was obvious it was an English saddle.

An English saddle is easier to recreate than a Western saddle due to the horn (at least it was for me). I will try to dig up some photo references I have used in the past.

It looks like either a Western saddle with pommel horn removed or an English saddle with Western wood stirrups. I'm leaning towards English since the cantle isn't high enough to be a Western. So basically just switch the metal stirrups with wooded ones on the English and add the wool/fur covering. I think my mounted Gorillas will approve of the kitbash. Thanks for the pics.

You're welcome. It's been awhile since I worked on this project. I can tell you that I don't remember the names of the saddle parts anymore, being a city girl and all...

How much more does apemania charge if you wanted the appliances pre-painted?

Please share some pictures with us once done Dermann! :whip

Hopefully these prices are up to date:

GORILLA Prosthetics Set COMPLETE $ 850

price includes:

FOAM LATEX Muzzle and Chin, fully painted, vented with teeth
Wig
Hair-piece set:
Forehead
Cheeks (2)
Beard
optional Hair collar (additional: $150)

OR priced individually:

Fully painted Muzzle and Chin, vented with teeth $ 350
(comes with vac-u-form storage face)

Hair collar (GORILLAS): $ 150
Wigs: (ALL characters) $ 250
Hair-piece sets:$ 250

Expensive, yes, but if you go the unpainted route, it's only about $150 and then you would have to purchase the grease makeup ($50) and Pros-aide (to create your own PAX paint...maybe another $10)...teeth black another $10. You can easily recreate your own teeth with Apoxie.

This is the breakdown so far of my makeup:

$600 = makeup crew.
$150 = first unpainted Zira Apemania appliance (makeup crew has her)
$156 = new set of unpainted Zira Apemania appliance (includes tooth black and shipping/handling)
$100 = makeup/pros-aide, what-not from Alcone
$75= four sets of lace beards (not human hair)
$75 = full M55 human hair beard + four lace beards (human hair)
$100 = hair (real human hair and fake human hair) for augmenting wigs
I'm sure there's a lot more I am forgetting. But yes, I bleed money left and right...

So you see...if you let Apemania do it all for you it almost comes about the same as if you did it all yourself. But, I like to put stuff together myself, as you guys know. If I could make my own prosthetics, and someday I will, I will bleed more money left and right to further accomplish myself in this area.

Or you could go a cheaper route and buy non-human hair wigs and save yourself some money there. I went with real human hair because it has a subtle sheen. Fake hair has a high gloss that doesn't look right in photographs.

Jess... I hope you are using rubber mask grease paint.

If you use regular grease paint it will, over time, destroy your Ape-pliance.

Also, I seem to recall that the hair used for the movie was Yak hair not human hair because the Yak hair was a bit more corse and looked more like simian hair in texture.

Yes, the makeup palette specifically says rubber mask grease paint. Over time as I improve the hair pieces, I will add real yak hair, crazy as it sounds. :naughty They used Korean hair (because of its uniform texture), mixed with some yak hair for added ape effect.

I really want to make my own appliances someday!! That would be the ultimate goal!!! :banana

Thanks for posting the party of the apes Jess. I didn't know about it. I just put my camcorder back in the pawn shop, but if I get paid before Sunday, I'll pull it out & video tape it & post some screen grabs...

Angel, I think the grey Caesar Statue looks awesome. Now you've intimidated me in painting mine... Please, Please PM me regarding what paints you used and an overview of how you did it....

Too bad I did not have any extra time, I am only 6 1/2 hours from the coast. Meaning San Diego or LA from Phoenix. It is also only a 45 minute flight.:gun
