Essentially, couldn't you just DYE Frodo and Sam's clothing to make Merry and Pippins clothing?

It would also help SS get rid of their Hobbits, which they hate so much. :D

That's what I was going to ask. I have to compare them more closely, but I think you could get something close for at least some of the pieces. I don't think you're going to be able to dye a darker color yellow though.

The yellow vest would have to be made or if you could find a white one, dye it. I think bleaching one out and they dying it would probably just give you a mess.

Pippin's scarf is gonna be hard too since it's knit. I can knit, but that small? eeek

From the look of Frodo's vest, it looks like it should bleach out to a very faded tan/orange...which can then be dyed to a golden yellow. Not canary yellow but a golden yellow. I think. I've bleached Dragon clothing a lot, and that color does fade fairly well. Again, I think.

For Pippin's scarf, I think going to a fabric strore and getting a swatch of material (free) that matches the weave and color would be your best option. Be tough to get the tassles on both ends, but you might be able to fray or cut the ends to get a similar effect.

Now that I'm looking at it, I really want to try this.

Need the head sculpts though.

So what Merry and Pippin mini-busts are there, and which are more or less 1/6 scale?

Regarding the earlier questions about gollum, when I asked about options for a 1/6 scale Gollum a while back nobody had any good answers for me. That leads me to believe that there aren't any figures OR statues that would be perfectly in scale.

I have the DID sets but need the bodies so I'm stuck as what to do. Both sets with some modes would work. I have a $50 and $25 gift card and might use those to pick them up again.

I always wondered how Sideshow would handle Gollum. He was never going to be easy due to all the exposed skin and especially the joints. I haven't been able to think of any Gollum figure or statue in 1:6 scale that might be of use, except maybe the Weta DVD companion statues. Aren't they fairly close to 1:6 scale? If so, maybe they would be of some use. I think the Gollum version is still fairly easy to find.

If people could live with all the exposed joints then what about modding a hobbit body? It would still require a new head sculpt, and maybe some new hands and feet. Those could be resin cast and possibly modded with ankle/wrist joints from a hobbit. Then just repaint, add a loin cloth and voilà.

I've heard there's busts but I haven't seen them. Google search time.

And someone did post that the "fish song" Gollum is a little large for true 1/6th scale. That was the only post offering a possibility, as that was the one I had my eye on. But if he's not in scale than forget it.

Too bad there's not a sculpted Gollum squating on a rock in 1/6th. Given his apparel, I'd be fine with zero articulation and just a good presentation.

That was me, WG. I added later that I wasn't 100% certain. I haven't looked at for a couple of years. I seem to recall it was non-scale, though. If it had been close to 1:6 scale I'm sure I'd have made a note of it. Wouldn't hurt to double check, anyway. Mine is on another continent at the moment, so hopefully somebody else can answer that question.

Got a pic or link for this staue. I can't find a good pic of it.

BTW, I want this in 1/6th:

It really is a cool little figure, even if it isn't in scale with the others. For the prices they're going for now I think it's a bargain. Two head sculpts, no joints, 22 phrases from the films, plus the "fish song" no less!

That looks close, but maybe a couple of inches too big overall. Might be passable though, since he's sitting down it'd be less obvious.

Which looks close?

I think the DVD statue sucks. Sorry.

Not sure about the ToyBiz one. I think I'll wait until someone with it in hand says its good or its bad. But yeah, for .99 I'd take it...it's the $12 ship I don't like.

No, the Gollum with changeable head and fish is too big, it might be closer to 1/4 or its probably right in the middle at 1/5. For Toybiz, like some of their other 12" like Gimli and BIlbo, its a surprisingly good figure: great articulations and despite the joints, its still looks pretty good. The audio feature was cool and theres actually a place in the base to hold the spare head.

Thank you. You just saved us all some money. Well there ya go. No good.

There must be a garage kit or something somewhere that is Gollum in 1/6th... and that looks good.

I don't know why I'm so fixated on LOTR right now. :lol I don't even have Samwise yet.
