So you liked it mostly? Or it just wasn't as bad as we've been predicting, is all?
Yes, I liked it for the most part. As indicated earlier I wish they'd have shortened the intro as I didn't think the de-aging held up throughout that sequence. But the story was well conceived and while still fantastical much closer to a Raiders or TLC feel as opposed to KOTCS. Plus it had a couple of emotional beats that surprised me. Earlier I said the last scene didn't quite work for me. I should clarify: I liked where Indy & company ended up it just felt bittersweet, whereas I thought it could/should have felt more uplifting.

Indy adventures don't need 'drama'. I'm sure they worked because we're old men now, but my younger self would just roll his eyes: Come on, more danger and fighting!

Agreed but I think their acknowledging that even Indy can't beat the ravages of time is the only way this works as a movie. Maybe not quite an Indy movie of yesteryear but a movie. And that said they still had old Indy doing a few too many young Indy stunts, but not so many that it was ridiculous. I did think there were too many chase scenes, but in retrospect old Indy is more believable as a driver or passenger so maybe that played a part lol...

But if Short Round says "Indy, I love you" at his age now, it takes on a whole other meaning, and a real mess for Indiana Jones. Not the adventure he was looking for.
Just pictured him saying as a adult ‘ This is no time for love’ super awkward
Followed by Strong bridge, Strong wood...;)

I understand the critiques. The “what’s the point of it all…”

But if you are an Indy fan, a true Indy fan… I challenge you to explain to me why this is not up to snuff.

It’s very much a James mangold film. But don’t expect Logan. But all the cheesy cringy ******** from Crystal skull is not there and it holds it’s own.

Lacks a bit of heart, despite the action Is boring at times.

But if something HAD to happen beyond last crusade I’d be much rather this he the last note than crystal skull.

That post about Helena bashing…. Grow up. Honestly… we sat through Mutt…and you have a problem with this character? She’s incredible.

You have one of the best directors for these types of films… you have Harrison and you can tell he actually cares… you have Mads… who always brings it but this is not what he will be remembered for to say the least, but again you can’t go wrong… and you have probably one of the most relevant revolutionary talents in Phoebe Waller-Bridge all in one film. So it’s kind of impossible for it to fail.

A bit dull yes. It’s not magic but it’s damn enjoyable

Also chiming in to edit my post to agree with @Johnny Utah this film is at least on par or better than temple of doom.

10 years from now, mark my words it’s going to be regarded highly. It’s a subtle film in the way you won’t understand sitting in that theater of the moment…

It’s not the average marvel thing for example which I equate to a McDonald’s hamburger… Exciting and enjoyable in the moment and follows a formula you know works. But ultimately you’re still hungry and you feel malnourished and the min you are done with it you wonder why you wanted it in the first place.

What the?????

Just because you believe it doesn't make it a fact or that rest of the world does. Please show me the plethora of objectively undeniable work that is deserved of such a statement. She appeals to a small demographic and if you're (obviously) part of that demographic and believe those words, then all power to you, but somehow I doubt the history books will look back at her with that level of reverence.

"Impossible for it to fail" is probably one of the boldest statements in recent history considering how badly it's numbers are tracking. Unless there's a new level of miscalculation happening, it's going to take a miracle for it not to fail.

No, I’m not speaking subjectively I’m speaking objectively about Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s near universal acclaim.

I wasn’t a big fan of fleabag, but it seems the critical and mass audience consensus disagrees with me and I can’t argue behind her talent.

Single-handedly she had received best writing, acting and best series awards… britanica outstanding artist of the year… time magazine most influential people…

She is one of the most coveted talents in Hollywood. For example Daniel Craig refused to continue with No Time to Die unless Phoebe was brought in to rewrite most of the script knowing her voice was imperative to bring credibility to that project.

No one can “Mary sue” argue her out of this.
Like it or not, she’s one of the most credible and coveted choices for a film like this.

Her agreeing to be in this film is actually kind of a big deal… She doesn’t need it, she actually brings the role and the film up.

Or just pay 18 dollars and watch it in a theatre? 🤷🏻‍♂️

A theatre?

I don't have any inclination to watch any film in one of those. I haven't set foot in one since 1992.

I prefer to avoid people as much as possible, plus the idea of planning to watch something at a specific time in a specific place is completely alien to me.

To each his own… and I didn’t mean to criticize, I’m one of those advocates that COVID revolutionized the workforce and remote work is here to stay no matter what corporate greed tries to dictate and force with the inane push to office backtracking as of late … so I get it on a lot of levels even if it’s not the same thing,

Having said all that I do think it’s important to support film, as much as the studios gobble up most of the profit there are so many talented and hard working production people and performers who are due their fair share.

But again thsts my POV only and I’m not here to judge, only partake in discussion… and I understand why someone would want to avoid public in a general way.

Irregardless of how I think it’s worth the watch, but a big screen and clear picture is best for a film like this I think

One thing we agree on is I’m interested in the hot toy… it’s such a good effort and the film was likable enough to me to make me want an old Indy in my collection

I was just born anti-social. :lol

Always preferred being alone, doing my own thing and avoiding crowds. I even grew tired of friends.

I loved the Covid lockdowns because the world was suddenly quiet. Like the The Omega Man, but without the vampires.

The last films I remember seeing in the cinema were Terminator 2, The Rocketeer, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Silence of the Lambs and Wayne's World (I realised the latter was 1992, so edited my post).

There isn't much (or really anything) I feel a desperate need to watch in the way of films nowadays.

It doesn’t matter if you or whoever else likes it or not, it’s true.

So, in my opinion- it’s just kind of “dumb”… to not know what you’re talking about but proceed to respond anyways with comments that hold little to no substance,

Not saying by any means that this specific poster… or any of the ones on the thread think this way, but I think this backlash is less about Phoebe and more about what she represents.

I’ve seen this countless times before and I’m inclined to believe the predominately male demographic, near or over 40 (I’m of that demographic for the record) that represents the fan base of these films, and certainly on a action figure forum… is always going to be resistant to this type of character or personality no matter what. I’m not saying it’s misogyny per se - but I’m not saying it’s not either.

I do find it puzzling however because I’d bet some of the strong female characters that these fan bases became endeared to at a young age, would they be presented today would face some of the same backlash now that this generation has grown older . Your Princess Leias, Ellen Ripleys and even your Marion Ravenwoods to name just a few.

For the record, I’m actually not a huge fan of Phoebe Waller-Bridge either, I find her a but overrated but I do think she is great in this particular film, and like it or not , she’s a big deal and I think she brings this project up a lot in credibility… and again this isn’t really subjective speak here…it’s pretty well known and accepted that she’s no joke…

So if you’re protesting it, you’re just sort of out of touch to be honest.

I mean she’s even being pegged to direct the next James Bond film… she’s already a mover and shaker in Hollywood and she’s just barely breaking out.

Holy mother of God. You must work in Hollywood with a viewpoint like that.

Not sure what rock you've been living under but film is in the worst state it's ever been in; derivative, unoriginal, uninspired, insipid, over-produced, corporatized, movies-by-commitee, garbage. If Hollywood reveres her, that's because they're a bunch of spineless, talentless shills that have jumped on a bandwagon to keep their paychecks coming and the SJW's at bay.

Again, if you genuinely believe that, all power to you! I personally don't know anyone in the real world that can understand her flavor of the month status - particularly when you see her work. Some of it is okay, maybe even good, but beyond that...

Maybe we're both living in our own little vacuums surrounded by likeminded echo-chamber family, friends and associates.
