I had to get over this sentiment pretty early in my collectables career, as I found out almost immediately that ‘nearly’ no statue is absolutely flawless. So while no statue is flawless I’ve had to lower my expectations to pretty good or good enough.

Of course features like light ups should work 100% of the time, and statues should go together well during assembly (but even this last one is an issue with a significant portion of my current collection), but in a hobby where things are painted by hand I’ve had to accept that said paint will almost ‘always’ have imperfections, no matter the cost (from a few hundred to a few thousand) or scale.

I first started in the Hot Toy game so after mostly transitioning from them where pieces can be nearly flawless to statues, the whiplash to my QC expectations was pretty severe.

I have a statue collection of well over a hundred pieces, from 1/6 scale all the way to 1:1 (plus another 60 or so in 1/10 scales), and I don’t think I can count on more than a handful of them where they didn’t have some sort of minor to middling QC issue. Usually paint imperfections like small scratches, chips or bleeds are quite common or some sort of fitting assembling problem. Heck even with light ups that did work (as they don’t always no matter the manufacturer) the bulk of them had some sort of light bleed issues. I think the only one that didn’t bleed was the Sideshow Mark 3 Maquette, and the Iron Studios Mark 46 was easily my worst were huge chunks of the statue acted almost like a lamp shade rather than a statue when it was lit up in a completely dark room.

Yeah, I tend to agree with this sentiment. I'm pretty forgiving of paint imperfections and honestly, I expect the light up features on most statues to fail in a few years. My biggest worry at the moment is they keep sending me replacements that aren't 100% and eventually run out of replacement pieces and I'm stuck with whatever the last option they sent me was. I'm not going the full refund route as Thor and Cap are already sad that their buddy is missing :)

The replacement parts you send back get sent to someone else. The complete return gets sent to someone else. It's a make shift body shop to see how many they can get sold.

I have no doubt that happens. Maybe the next person takes the $150 discount... Iron Studios packaging makes it easier than ever to do what you're describing as there's no tape seal, just those velcro straps... I'm anxiously awaiting my replacement...

I got a broken Mark VII half scale a few years back and out a note in the leg that broke off. A few weeks pass and some one posts on FB the note lol. I wish you the best of luck I have seen pieces on facebook without issues.

The message in a bottle! Fantastic! Yeah, I hope I get one without issues, although I'm not holding my breath...

If I ever return a piece to Sideshow, I’m going to have to remember that. I’ll make sure to put a note between the body and the styrofoam packaging.

They really shouldn’t be allowed to do that (especially for broken pieces) but then again I’m not surprised at the same time when they do it for some returned packages. As I’ve read so many comments here or even on YouTube videos where collectors have said they’ll return it if they don’t like it enough even if there are no major issues with the piece, as we all know we’ll be able find something wrong no matter how small.

I buy a lot of my stuff locally and I know that they do have warehouse sales for returned items every few years.

THAT is encouraging! Although I now realize that I will need to wire an outlet to my shelf that the trio is on!

I ran the wire down the back of the cabinet so you can't see it ;) ...plus it looks even better at night so definitely get some power nearby.

Nice! I had a brief hope that there was a battery compartment I wasn't aware of!

Man with the lights working that piece is freaking amazing.

Got my replacement from Sideshow today and everything works perfectly! Really glad I elected to exchange it. I'll be wiring an outlet to the shelf this weekend! It's too good lit up not to make that happen.

Congratulations. The statue is amazing.

Well I finally received mine via Popcultcha.

Amazingly enough on my first assembly all the lights worked for both torso’s :clap

After watching various videos on YouTube I had decided to do the opposite and first assemble the body before inserting it into the base, as I didn’t want to put any undue pressure on the exhaust and wiring into the base etc.

After my final check over the statue I found that the head had ceased to light up!! I looked it over and the plug had come loose and had sunk further into the head, meaning it wasn’t plugging properly into the chest :gah:

After some playing around I got it to work again, but I can foresee it dying completely :horror

One other nitpick that I have is that the lights aren’t nearly as bright as I had hoped it would be. To my eye they look quite dim.

Sorry to hear that you had problems, hopefully it keeps working. Crazy how bad the QC is on this one

It really is disappointing. I will say that with number of lights, they were pretty much setting themselves up for challenges, particularly with each limb being separate. I know that was necessary due to the switch out torso, but it makes the probability of issues much greater.

I received mine today. All lights and torsos are working.
