I'm no Hot Toys apologist, but geez you guys are a hard crowd to please. I'm also surprised at how many of you are not new to this scene.

Sure it didn't look so sharp, but it's exactly like Spaceghost (with 10 comments here) said. They clearly have put this together quickly, and have 18 months to improve it. Plus its being recorded here at mega close range under harsh lights.

Except that HT protos generally look better than the final product which are downgraded in some way and rarely if ever are improved. Especially true the last few years. If any change happens between proto stage and final product, it?s almost always for the worse.

I didn?t like the design of these to begin with, too video game-y for me. So it was an easy pass.

I just watched an episode of Rebels that featured droids that looked very similar to these. Wonder if that was intentional.

Seems like you guys are being fooled by flash photography.

Even Vader looks dark grey when shot like this... but in-hand he's very black.

I wonder why Hot Toys would show a quickly put together prototype if they have an good one for promo photoshooting...

It's probably the same figure. But under those bright display lights and mega zoom lens things stick out which the eye normally doesn't see.

Take a mega close up photo of Vader's helmet under LED lights and have a look what you find which is not visible from normal viewing distances.

True. I'm sure the final product will be much better then this :)

Wow. I didn't realise pointing out a proto is not good is a capital offence here now. Better get the cancel culture to go back and sanitise all those old threads . To be honest I'm not convinced the one on display is the same one used for the promo shots. Someone on facebook posted some side by sides with the promo shots and aspects seemed off detail and shape wise. Yes I know the video had harsh lighting and was super close up, but there was obvious paint pooling and other poor finishing so I'm still sticking to my view that this is a hasty get something in the store and on display.

I?m not worried one bit. Their Vader?s paint & Death Troopers paint both look good imo so no reason this won?t.

You can preorder at one of the many smaller retailers that don't have NRDs.

And there are others which also give good early bird discounts if you PO in the first month. Don't get these people who think SS are the only game in town. Probably the same ones complaining that they missed out after the figure sells out after a 2 year PO window.

I don't like cancelling pre-orders for smaller retailers who in some cases might get stuck with extra product. Granted HTs seem to fly off the shelf regardless of of quality sometimes, but still not something I like doing.

I rather not pre-order, and keep myself unbiased on the quality of the figure when it is actually released and I can make a judgment after some reviews. People who pre-order are notorious for hyping themselves into liking it, regardless of how the final product turns out sometimes.

I'm not sure if the long delivery time is because HT are still working on the development, or because these troopers take so long to power up and get to you.
By the time they were ready to battle, Mando and Co. killed off about half the crew on that ship :)

These will look sharp when released. Look at the Death Trooper and K2SO. I would expect a bit of a cross between those.
