Great figure (and I can't wait to get mine) but he's definitely a 10-20 year younger version than Christopher Lee was on screen. He face is so smooth, with little to no wrinkles whatsoever.

Somewhere between these 2 - he was 80 in Ep2, and 52 in The Man With The Golden Gun.

I agree, the Ep7 Han Solo figure looks older than this

Okay, now I understand the “too good to be true” part of this, but how exactly do these Ebayers screw you (if they indeed do)? They’re all Hong Kong sellers. They have Dooku, Yoda, Obi-wan and various marvel sixth scale listed as brand new for $49.99 some sellers are $74.99... what’s the deal with these? All positive reviews. All free shipping and free returns. All they just bootleg figures? I’m just curious. Thanks

They’re all scams. Send them money and you get nothing.

Even through eBay? I’ve never had any issues getting funds returned when I had any issues with eBay sellers. That’s why I wondered what the deal was. I know it’s not legit, I just thought perhaps there was something I was overlooking that makes them get away with it.

$50-$75 is relatively cheap to learn a lesson in life :)

They scam as much money as they can, withdrawing it from Paypal until eBay bans their account.

Paypal refunds the customer, but if there's no money in the seller's account then Paypal can't recoup their loss from the seller.

It's a scam against Paypal using the customer's money.

And they network; “selling” a bunch of individual rocks and incense and stuff to each other to boost their feedback.

It always amazes me when people fall for this. But as the old saying goes: there's a sucker born every minute.

Just the fact that someone inquires about the legitimacy. Like, do they really think the answer will be: its a great deal, totally on the level, do it.

What amazes me is that eBay and PayPal aren’t more careful since they are the ones who ultimately lose. Considering how often this happens on eBay, you’d think it would be worth it for them to spend the money policing it a little better. People know they are protected when they purchase, And try even though it looks suspicious, so who’s really the sucker? They’ll be reimbursed eventually, but PayPal loses out.

It drives me nuts how many people out there are like "hey what can it hurt? Maybe I'll get something?!" They're the problem, driving up fees because eBay/Paypal have to fund all these jerk offs thinking they're the one guy who's going to get a deal.

Yeah I've done my fair share of reporting and it never seems to do much help.

Re: Hot Toys -MMS496- Episode II AOTC Count Dooku Collectible Figure

I purchased something recently from Asia that was a really good price. I suspected it might be a scam, but I thought, what have I got to lose? If it is, I’ll be reimbursed. And if it isn’t, I’ll get it for a very good price. I wasn’t surprised when the seller was removed from eBay, or when my item never showed up. And I should have reimbursement in a week or so. It was just a minor inconvenience to me, that’s all. The issue is really between PayPal and eBay (eBay’s lack of protecting customers from scammers is ultimately costing PayPal, not eBay and not eBay customers), and I’m happy to let them duke it out – they’re both big enough to take care of themselves. And if they do nothing, it doesn’t hurt to me. It hurts them.

You got it.^ You forgot to mention that they buy scam time using the 30 day pre-order window. sadly, you cannot dispute a transaction in eBay after 30 days. Some sellers will say "it will take longer than 30 days and are honest - like Timicent) The profiles that they have are fake feedback that is acquired by friends buying 1 cent items and racking up a rep score.

As an active seller and buyer on eBay for over 20 years, I can sadly attest that 1/10 transactions is usually a scam. Why do I still use it? Its the only way to at least breakeven in some cases and 90% is ok..I guess.

Theres ways to protect yourself of course. Always message the seller and try to get some approval that they are agreeing to be within the binding transaction. example: "Is the 74.99 the total confirmed price and that includes shipping for the item 1/6 John Doe figure shipped to 90210?" Ebay has helped me as long as I had this proof. Otherwise they defer you to PayPal.

Im a vinyl collector and have had some of the the worst scenarios happen as well as 1/6 figures. They basically bought my item only to swap their crap item with my new item and filed a return. Also, never sell a gift card on eBay. They will use the code and file a chargeback.
