...to me it doesn’t seem like you’re straddling both sides to be honest. Besides the absolutely obvious like the paint job. But you see what you see :)
It's a hard pill to swallow, especially when you already have the first version. In all seriousness, it's okay to not get this one. I seriously would've been totally fine with my 1.0 if I wasn't such a hardcore Jabba fan.....gotta collect 'em all and all that.
The first thing I tried was the "sleeping" eye on the left and the regular one on the right, but I thought it looked a little off -- like the sleeping eye is a bit too closed. But the nice thing about this figure is that you can mess around with things like this. I might actually go back to using both of the normal eyes.
I thought the exact same thing with using the nearly closed eye on the right side - a bit too closed. Even though there's scenes were Jabba looks like that, it would've been nice to have gotten an inbetween eye set.
I like the lazy eye look myself, paired with the slightly open mouth and one raised arm- he looks pretty good.

Beautiful. That's how I plan on doing mine..with the eyes and mouth at least. Not sure if I'm going to have them holding their chalice, pipe, frog or nothing at all.

The Jabba puppet's less than 5'-6" tall to the very top of the head.
The other issue is, while the new one is easily 50% more volume than the old one,
The oversized new Jabba arms/hands also makes the figure read larger at a glance - but those new hands are 50% too large.
..how the eye on our left droops noticeably. You can see that even though his eyes are very expressive, onscreen Jabba's eyes are dead straight in relation to each other. I was wondering if you can rotate the Sideshow eye on our left upward so its more level but I don't think it's possible.
You can see the issue here in agp's comp pics - where the screen Jabba's eyes are dead straight in relation to each other, whereas you can see the SSC fig has the drooped eye on the left side.
Yes, that's what I've been saying for years. Jabba doesn't look like the height of an average American guy. Definitely more in the 5' 6" range as opposed to what they're listed at. I've never seen Vader as some 7' guy, but when seeing an R2 unit in person..it's definitely bigger than I would've imaged.

Not sure if this guy is quite 50% larger than the original, or the arms and hands being 50% too large. I'd like to think it's not that drastic, but they definitely took liberties, same as how they make Vader too large. What gets me as how huge they made the dome on the ANH Vader. If only that was shrunk down a bit to look more like the awesome Hasbro figure..but that's another topic.

You're making me do a math equation man..with the 'our left' thing lol. Jabba's right eye certainly looks more like their stroke had more of an effect on them. That's why I'll be putting that sleepy eye on the right..you can't see any issues with using that one. If using the normal eye on the right..maybe wedge a tiny folded piece of paper or a tiny bit of foam tape to make it straighter. Something I had to do with my RoboCop, cause the top of the head sits a bit too low.

But all in all, your points are appreciated. I'm not losing any excitement over receiving the piece..cause I totally can relate to some of the things you're pointing out. Maybe when we're all completely engulfed in the simulation, we can finally have "perfect" renditions of these characters.

Oh, I just read that you're getting the new one; didn't think you were. That's a good idea with what you plan on doing with both. I honestly don't know if I'm going to be selling off the original. It was an absolute given originally, but now I'm having second thoughts. Not just the shipping nightmare, but I do really love Jabba..and they both bring something different to the table.

It's because asterix's were being strategically placed for no reason. Can't get the damn things to go away..glitches in the matrix and all😉.

Yessss..disappearing, reappearing ink. I learned it from Who Framed Rodger Rabbit. My phone is made by Acme.
You are kind of amazing sometimes. First you say no one said anything. Then when I chime in, you suggest I was wrong... about something that has since been proven correct no less. What is the point of your response to me except to be an ass and say I'm incorrect is my assessment somehow because I couldn't know that, didn't have the right tools, or was somehow emotional?
C'mon man, we can all get along..right? We're a tiny microcosm community here. Gotta maintain the brethren..especially since most of the people actually around us don't get this maddening obsession we're all appart of. We're like the cyber Loosers' Club here.

Oh, Talibane and I have gone at it much worse than that. :lol I like him, and know I can be just has much a hardass, but that doesn't mean I won't call someone out when they're challenging me. Again, I think it was unfair of him to suggest my belief that Jabba was underscaled was somehow incorrect because my methods were crude or simply too 'feely' to be accurate.

But don't you worry, I'm certain he's piecing together a lengthy retribution against my comment right now.

Ohh okay lol. Well that sounds much better then. Was just thinking, with you being in California and my old friend in Oregon..man I miss the West coast. Greenville (SC) has been my home my entire adult life; but going back there, it always feels like home. This place makes Portland seem like a sleepy town lol. I've asked, but still have no clue to why everybody from New York City, northern Jersey, etc. move here. Everybody's going around in a rage, horns honking constantly. Like..whatever happened to southern hospitality? I mean, the rednecks and such can be in there own gated community.

YO JABBA YOU BEEN HITTIN' THE GYM BRO? LOL

man, I think I'm passing. Going to stick with the turd pickle. Maybe I'll try and get it repainted. But I can't justify this one guys, we are up in the life size scale replica prop realm of costs... and as much as I love Jabba I just don't feel the leap is worth it. Maybe when taxes come rolling in I'll reconsider, but it's a pass for now. They definitely pulled off what I thought would look like crap tho, the seams don't grab your eye as much as I thought they would. You know going from proto to production I thought for sure it'd look like leatherface. It looks decent. But his overall face still looks weird to me, I still like the V1 face more. Everything else looks awesome though for sure and I can see how the OVERALL impression is liked more by most of you guys. I could also live with the straight tail even though it's not preferred, and finally... FINALLY sideshow gets a solid paint job out of their shop. Man I bet everyone was ready to throw the towel in on sideshow completely if this non-human release had a ****** paint job.... (remember IG-88?) but looks like they are back on track to being decent at aliens and such.

ANYWAYS... I'll keep reading and enjoying the photos and arguments. Keep up the good job dudes.

You know, people don't always need calipers to make an accurate call, Talibane.

Yes, I knew SS Jabba was under scale just by looking at pictures, same thing we all do to this day. For the record, I always knew Vader 14" was too tall also, that always bothered me, I know you remember that.

I wasn't meaning to come across as an ass, but you've been stating it as "proven correct." You seem to have no issues deeming my assessment incorrect - with little thought for an ass filter - despite me saying I've looked at it in some detail and haven't found the underscale to be all that noticeable. And if you look at the pic I posted above, other than the tail, the new one visually appears roughly the same size as the old one (only bigger if you more carefully look at it.)

And I went through the old Jabba thread looking for pics not long ago and there is very little discussion of it being underscale despite many, many dozens of people receiving it and posting pics. The only mention I recall was a guy saying that it was too small and his Illusive Concepts Jabba was in better scale (which is at least a head taller than a standard 12" figure - ie way too tall.)

And jeez the "calipers" thing is a bit like the "button counters" thing... people love to mock detailed examinations of screen accuracy (it's a time honored tradition on here,) but then turn around and say it's not accurate. And the only way to prove it one or another is to... well, you get the idea.

I was actually getting some food. Kids gotta eat.:lol

And people that go at it with that much gusto have the passion. It's a good thing.:lecture

I wasn't meaning to come across as an ass,

I appreciate that. Neither was I. I think its the way it was written (or read) that seemed dismissive, as if I couldn't know that unless I used serious deductions. I often do serious deductions, just privately.

Anyway, I personally think the underscale is noticeable, all the moreso with the new Jabba. 1/2 inch is the differnce between someone being 6 feet and 5' 6 inches. In life, what height would you rather be? So it matters in 1/6th. Look at all the madness we've all gone through to get Vader down to the 13.25 inches he's supposed to be.

So, with Jabba's height, here's a quick and dirty look at the height difference:

Sideshow vid COMP to check Jabba heights 2-1-19 (3).jpg

Just took that Sideshow vid pic, and slammed the two together (adjusting slightly for the slightly higher dias on the new Jabba). The height difference alone is readily apparent, besides the volume difference in other ref.

Anyway... I think you and I agree -- its sometimes hard to tell :lol -- but put simply: that the old Jabba is smaller than the new Jabba.

This debate has to happen, even though I know it comes across to some as "haters vs defenders," just as it does in thread after thread over the years. As jackboots and missions.

I don't think it comes across like that at all. This is one of my favourite threads at the moment as there is genuine discussion going on and I can feel the conflict within just like Vader felt in Luke when it comes to this figure.

I posted these pics in the old Jabba thread but I'll post them here as well since this argument continues despite pretty damning proof that old Jabba is significantly too short. Not my photos, I think genghis took them.

One photo shows that on the same level surface the new one is a good bit taller than the old. The next two show that if anything the new version may still be slightly too short next to Boba Fett, meaning the old Jabba is definitely and significantly too short.

I think the new size is better but isn’t Fett a step down in that screen shot? Yet the height difference looks similar to your shot where they’re on the same plane.

Here’s one where I think 3PO is on the same plane. But there’s always some pillow in the way of the feet.

Not sure if he is a step down in the screenshot. His head is tilted downward making him a bit shorter than he would be standing at attention. If he is a step down it would seem the new Jabba is about dead on correct, right? :lol

Yep. This was going to be my next pic to repost. I thought this was pretty clear in showing the difference without excuses of distortion or anything else.

Looking at that photo it appears the top of old Jabba's head is the same height as the tip of new Jabba's nose. So if one was to measure the tip of new Jabba's nose to the top of his head we should know the exact difference in height between the two.
