Considering that M. was one of the very first films to use sound to it's storytelling advantages, and this is one of the very first films to use IMAX to it's storytelling advantages, I can see where Nolan is coming from.

Snow White and the Huntsman.
Great villain, looks great, but Kristen Stewart let's it down with another unengaging performance. Also the Dwarfs were underused and Hemsworth did not have much to do but run around and fight baddies.

last movie i watched was Safe house, it wasn't too bad, it was a decent watch. The film has denzel in so its going to be somewhat good but i just couldn't connect to ryan reynolds character, simply because i really don't like his acting in movies. The only film i have liked of his was the green lantern.

It had some good action scenes, nothing to extravagant the plot i figured out within the first 30mins or so, so the ending to the film came as no surprise. All in all its a good time filler movie if you have nothing else to do

3 out of 5 from me.

I got special screening tickets to Piranha 3DD.

Not as good as the first, but definitely just as graphic and disturbing. Not your grandmother's movie, that's for sure.

Some laugh out moments, but other than that, save yourself the moola and see something else, like I dunno, Glitter. Never seen Glitter, but I can only imagine it is better than this lil' diddy. Plus, Voorhees27 absolutely adored Glitter!

This was an in-flight movie and was barely watchable. I have a hard time sleeping when I travel, but this gave me a good 45 minutes as it was so boring and contrived :lol I actually enjoyed the previous films, but this one was just awful all around.

Another in-flight, but it was actually pretty good. It's a sappy flick about rescuing trapped whales, but was more effective than I would have expected.

The Avengers 10/10. In this case, the whole is indeed greater than the sum of the parts. I think I rated Cap and Iron Man a 8.5 or 9, Thor and Incredible Hulk a 7.5 or 8. Still haven't seen IM2.

I've always been more of a DC guy than a Marvel guy -- always preferred Batman and Superman to anything Marvel had to offer. But, The Avengers was just a great movie. Lots of fun. Struck all the right chords. Funny in all the right places. Characterizations were great -- Stark as the sarcastic self-absorbed playboy; Rogers as the out-of-his-time morally sure-footed soldier; Banner as the understated soft-spoken scientist; Thor as the Shakespearean overly-serious god. Even liked Johannsen as Black Widow and Renner as Hawkeye -- two characters I knew next-to-nothing about.

I especially liked the portrayals of Hulk and Captain America. My first thought was that Cap would simply be outmatched. He can't physically hold his own with Thor, Iron Man, or Hulk, and it would be easy for him to get swallowed up in a movie like this. There had to be a solid reason the other guys needed him around. But, he fit in well as the old-timer, the battle strategist, and ultimately the moral leader of the group. And, his moral center never wavered from the 40's icon -- even to the point of saying "ma'am, there is only one God, and I'm pretty sure He doesn't dress like that." Nice touch.

Hulk was done really well. It seemed important to note that the rest of the group is scared of Bruce Banner -- he ain't really a teammate as much as a wild-card. Even Thor treaded lightly around him ... coming to blows when he had to, but ultimately a bit afraid.

It wasn't better than Batman Begins or The Dark Knight -- both of which are in my Top-10 movies -- but it was closer than I expected it would be. Felt more comic-booky than Nolan's trilogy ... which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just a different vision. Nolan's movies are more layered, more allegorical (particularly TDK), more serious, and much less fantastical. That's kinda the universe Batman lives in ... particularly Nolan's Batman. Gritty. Hard-edged. Avengers was just the opposite ... yet still great. Lighthearted. Fantastical. Took itself seriously enough to be compelling ... but not as constantly and oppressively serious as Nolan's Batman. Just an altogether fun experience.

My wife and I have three small kids ... seven, four and 7 months. We don't get to the theater to see movies all that much. I think this was the first one we've seen since Cars 2, and Inception prior to that. I've been looking forward to TDKR more than this (which will be our next date night), but I'm glad the wife and I spent a date night on Avengers. Even the wife really enjoyed it. I only hope DC can do something similar with a Justice League movie after 2013's Man of Steel, and the Batman reboot.

Avengers is definitely an instant top-tier superhero flick. Probably my favorite of the Marvel movies so far. Looking forward to 2. Hopefully they'll find a way to bring Spider-man into the fold.

I was busting up through the better part of this movie. I had to stop eating popcorn halfway through the film because I had choked on it three times for laughing so hard.

It is said that Dave Franco is trying to distance himself from James' shadow...looked more to me like he was trying act exactly like him...but it was cool.

Rob Riggle was pretty funny...I almost expected him to yell "POW" at least once.

I busted up on most of the times when Ice Cube was yelling at Tatum and Hill.

The Prestige 8.5/10. Not sure why it took me so long to get around to seeing this. It has gotten to the point where I'll see almost anything Bale is in, or Nolan directs -- and I rarely leave disappointed. Very cool movie. Not quite at the level of Inception or the Nolan Batman movies, but every bit as good as Memento. Plot twists at the end were good enough ... though I mostly saw them coming. I liked the non-linear story-telling technique.

There were even some familiar themes from other Nolan movies -- sacrifice, identity, obsession, complete devotion to the cause, story-within-the-story (the diary within the diary). Even the concept of living a lie for the purpose of furthering the cause is very much connected to the Wayne story.

I'll need to see it again to catch everything ... but I enjoyed it a lot.

Men in Black 7/10. A lot of fun, and a bit of a better story than I had expected. A nice wrap up to the series, and they can leave it at a trilogy.

Haywire 5/10. Big disappointment. Very little action, very choppy for no real reason, and worst of all, a very weak ending. You don't leave the killing of the two villains off screen in an action movie. I'd like to see Gina get another shot at a real action flick.

American Reunion - 7 out of 10

This one was right up there with the 2nd movie. I love the American Pie franchise, with the exception of the straight-to-DVD releases.

Jim's dad stole most of the scenes. They really exploited the character in this movie. Lots of hot T'n'A, combined with laugh out moments (and a good lot of those), with some great closure from the cast (which pretty much had everyone from the first movie), makes this an above average flick.

MIB 3D - 7.5 out of 10

Best of the three IMO. Started out slow and cheesy. I wasn't a fan of the first two. But this one was a heartfelt one. A good story that you think focuses on Agent K at first, but then gets to the focus and point of the whole premise of the flick. The reason they went to all that trouble of time travel.

Simply loved it! Great character development & action! There wasn't a single team member I did not like!

I felt Ruffalo's Hulk and RDJ stole the show! Because of this film, I decided to take the ultimate plunge and begin collecting HT 1/6 figures! Always been a fan of HT but shyed away due to their prices. Not no more!

I hope this film hits $600 million domestically. It sure deserves it!

Also, what is funny.... A couple scenes were filmed at NASA's Plumbrook Station in Sandusky Ohio. That is where I grew up and only live 30 minutes away from now. Small world, eh?

I'm still not worried.

Alien is great, but it has a few...very few key moments of bad acting. Or bad ADR.

Still. If the characters (some of them at least) are good, and the story is nice, and there is monsters, I think i'll be happy.

I'm being cautious though. Not expecting a masterpiece, but something really, really good.

The Iron Lady: 6/10
It was okay. Meryl Streep was phenomenal though. But the actual storytelling seemed a bit thin. It definitely played like a highlights reel of her life and service without delving too deeply into her character. Just a few moments of reflection here and there. The worst part was that they kept intercutting with Thatcher in her older age, when she's suffering from a bit of dementia.

My wife pointed out that it was an overall depressing message that they continued to push: no matter what you do in life, no matter what greatness you achieve, you will still end up senile, decrepit and alone. Even the last line in the movie, when asked if she was going somewhere special since she was so dressed up, she responds, "I'm not going anywhere." Then the room she leaves shows the daylight fading into night as the credits begin to appear. Very sad.

Meryl's performance is something to see though. Amazing.

Very disappointed. I kind of wish I had not seen it now. Even though the whole story has not been told, I think I preferred not knowing anything about the space jockeys.

I'm sure I would think the opposite if I came out of the cinema thinking how amazing the film was though.

Lots of flashes, bangs and thrills can't hide the fact that this movie could've been more. A lot more IMO.
The idea behind it all seems pretty awesome, and this could've been a great concept in the hands of other directors. Unfortunately now it's just another action-flick with some sci-fi background.

I agree 100% !

Funnily enough Alien Resurrection feels like a Serenity spin off to me.

Watching Firefly/Serenity made me appreciate what Joss was trying to do with Resurrection. The Betty crew is essentially the Serenity crew. He said in an interview that Resurrection was filmed "wrong", and at first (before every watching any Buffy/Angel/Firefly shows) thought that it was a cop-out thing to say--to blame the director and not take any responsibility as a writer. But after watching Firefly and his other shows, it helped me understand his style. And I agree that I can see how Resurrection was filmed "wrong".

Just imagine Resurrection as an episode of Firefly and you'll see how good it could have been.

Here's his quote:

"It wasn't a question of doing everything differently, although they changed the ending; it was mostly a matter of doing everything wrong. They said the lines...mostly...but they said them all wrong. And they cast it wrong. And they designed it wrong. And they scored it wrong. They did everything wrong that they could possibly do. There's actually a fascinating lesson in filmmaking, because everything that they did reflects back to the script or looks like something from the script, and people assume that, if I hated it, then they’d changed the script...but it wasn’t so much that they’d changed the script; it’s that they just executed it in such a ghastly fashion as to render it almost unwatchable."

Alpha Dog 7.5/10 One of the most depressing movies i've seen in a while. Some damn good performances though, especially from Ben Foster. Just a phenomenal actor.

Haven't seen the movie ... but I'm pretty sure Alpha Dog is a true story. I think I saw a Dateline or 48-hours show on the actual events -- my wife is hooked on Investigation Discovery ... so we get constant stories of murder and mayhem around my house. Heh. If I recall, a few know-nothing wannabe gangsters kidnap the brother of a guy that owes them drug money, or something like that.

Prometheus IMAX 3D 8/10 I enjoyed it. Yes, at times it did feel rushed but I can def understand to get it close to 2 hours. The visuals were amazing. The acting was very good. It had a few cards up it's sleeves. Well done Ridley. This wasn't an easy thing to do and I think they did it very well.

Yes 100% correct. Imo the film was so well acted that it literally made me mad (being that it was a true story and all) The film was ok but some of the performances were excellent.

Seen it twice now so probably better give it a score. Prometheus as a film 7/10. That's scoring the pacing, the story and acting. BUT for how much I have enjoyed thinking about it and the debates I have been getting into with friends of mine I am bumping it up to an 8/10. It just adds so much fun to the movie experience and really I feel like Prometheus adds a lot to the existing story of Alien. I am really hoping that a sequel gets made as Ridley seems to be having fun playing in Science Fiction again. And few do it better.

Prometheus 10/10. I can see where people critic the film, but Ridley delivered a film that will make movie watchers keep considering and questioning what they saw. It really added depth to the Alien Universe. Loved how the Space Jockey/Engineer was portrayed. Michael Fassbender delivers a memorable performance. I loved this movie. I wish we had the classic Alien in it, but oh well hopefully in the sequel

She had only watch Alien begrudginly before we saw this Friday and now she has watched Aliens and 3, because we have discussed this movie and its meanings into the ground and she wants a better connection to it. It isn't surprising. People tend to watch only those movies that they think they'll like, and tend to watch the stuff they love repeatedly. Even with honest ratings, that inflates the system.

I don't think I've rated much under a 6. I avoid movies that I figure would be under a 6 -- who has the time for that? Most of my ratings are in the 8 or 9 range -- because I watch movies I think I'll like, and I'm right more often than not. To me, 9.5s and 10s are movies that I'd gladly rewatch repeatedly. There are quite a few that make the cut.

Prometheus sadly 7.5/10
I had higher hopes and there is a lot that's very good about this movie such as visuals, acting, and an ambitious premise. But some of the storytelling just ends up being muddled and rushed. I think it needed another half hour and better narrative connective tissue especially for the mythos. You can't simply count on the fact that there will be a sequel although it's set up for one. still look forward to getting this on 3D blu-ray for more viewing, extras, commentary, etc.

Stake land. 8/10

Loved this movie. Picked it up yesterday for a great price and I'm really glad I did. This is probably my favorite vampire movie now. The problem I usually have with them is that they tend to focus on fighting the vampires with cool moves , running and screaming. This instead focused on the actual characters and how the world around them was falling apart and affecting them. The characters were all likeable and I was surprised at how good some of the performances were. The lead was a bad ass and that always helps with vampire movies , the soundtrack was great and I thought some of the cinematography was excellent , some really beautiful shots when the group were hiking through the woods. Well worth a watch if you haven't seen this. It seems to be a love it or hate it movie looking at reviews , I loved it.

I disagree. Rating Avengers, or Dark Knight, or Schindler's List, or some other widely renown movie a 2/10 and calling it a "piece of ____" is trolling for reaction.

Rating "Troll 2" a 2/10 and referring to it as "____" is an honest rating ... it is just an honest rating that should be met with "you got what you paid for", and begs the question "why the hell did you watch Troll 2?"

I can understand blatant trolling, but I dont think its a matter of trolling some people just have a wide variety of taste as far as movies go. I for example am a huge horror fan and I watch anything and almost everything I can horror related. I actually watch alot of those syfy channel movies and beleive me do you think I watch those expecting a oscar award winning movie...no way I know its going to be crap, but you have to take it for what its worth considering the genre.

Its like what I always say about people who dont watch a lot of horror. I generally will ignore someones review on horror when I know there not a big fan of horror and dont really watch enough of it to give a real gauge in the sense of what is good horror and what is bad.

Ive rated a few really crappy movies and gave them scores from a 6 to a 0 and those zeros are just me saying its unwatchable. Is it a bad movie sure and a complete waste of my time yes, but I still watched it. Now a movie that I might watch and score a 5, as stated by you guys you wouldnt even attempt apparently. While thats cool and I understand but again in that genre of film a 5 might be a crap movie but its still watchable and you can get some enjoyment out of it even if it is a "great" film. Half of my dvd collection would probably be considered crap by most people. To each their own, and obviously this is just my opinion guys :wave

Madagascar 3 - 6/10. With the positive reviews, I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed. There's a couple excellent scenes, but overall pretty standard stuff. It didn't help that while Cohen might have started the Julius character, the guy doing it on the tv show is ten times better. Kowalski's voice was also distracting - not sure why they didn't get the tv guy - and no real Rico, almost no Private. Weird voice for Mort too - the tv show has me spoiled.
