Battleship - A solid 7/10 id say on a good day.

Epic visuals and FX, the aliens were cool looking and the action was well done.

Story hit some good points, and some low points. The cast came together well, but wasnt perfect by anymeasns, but it was a fun movie, and had alot of heart in it.

X-2 : X-Men United - 6/10

First Class wins by half a point. Seems to me Singer is great at setting up the first half to 3/4s of the movie but then it starts to get a bit too sloppy and reliant on cgi. He also uses some painfully corny dialogue to try and make us pity characters who are dying or suffering. Wolverine's "Shes... Shes gone... gone.. shes shes gone shes gone." and Charle's "I can't feel my legs, my legs I cant feel.. I can't feel my legs, I can't feel em." strike me as Will Ferrell comedic instead of tragic.

Ronin 9/10. Very underrated movie. One of the best car chases ever filmed. Compelling story.

I've always like David Mamet's minimalistic writing ... he also did Spartan (with Val Kilmer) and The Unit. I like that he doesn't explain things -- he just writes dialogue as a spook or Delta team member would say it, and lets the audience figure it out.

I would have no problem giving it a 10. It's just that I don't give out 10's that easily. Although with some reflection since watching it last night, I would give it a 10 now.

I'm watching this one tonight I think.

Go into it without expectations. I know we're hyping it right now, but it's still not a movie for everyone IMO. Like I said above, if you're expecting big explosions and all that stuff, you'll be disappointed. It keeps you on the edge of your seat though.

We liked it so much that my 17 year old son asked me to buy it. It's the first time he ever asked me to buy a movie. The Grey is a good movie. A better director could have made it great. It would have been served better to cut out most of the dialouge and have it be more of a meditation on nature (not just the literal sense). It was certainly much better than I was expecting and the ending definitely elevates it at least two full points in my book.

Martha Marcy May Marlene - 6/10

It's a film that exists to get you into a character's state of mind more than tell a story. It works, and Elizabeth Olsen is wonderful in it, but to say it's a slow burn is an understatement.

One major gripe - This movie has a very low key climax that is completely spoiled by a couple of shots in the trailer. If slower, character driven stuff is your cup of tea I'd recommend reading reviews rather than watching the trailer. I was seriously pissed when it was almost over and I knew a couple of shots were still coming that I'd already seen.

You know what? I really dislike when people try to get "cute" for the sake of being so. If you don't know that expression I'm not explaining it. The Grey tried to get cute at the tail end of the credits. 5 out of 10 for me. Never will watch it again. More importantly to the people that rated this so high I must ask why? I didn't care for a second about any one character in the film. That to me is a huge aspect of a movie. In fact they almost go out of their way to make you dislike all the characters.

The anti-religous undertones, the state of mind of nature and a mans struggle against himself and it in order for survival. Liam Neeson and the rest of the characters you start out hating, but actually end up liking by the end of the film. And the beautiful cinematography and that awesome canyon scene are enough to warrant a 10 for me.

You kidding me? Go back and re watch the 20 minute scene where they sit around the fire. Or the very end where

Neeson literally yells to "god" and doesn't get an answer.

It's all about the acceptance of death, and that there is no point in life with the constant fear of death and what it brings lurking behind you.

Everyone dealt with it differently.

Everyone as in the characters or audience? Yet the main protagonist (besides death itself), is the only one alive by the end? I'm pretty sure that was the point, Neeson had no help it was him vs nature and the acceptance of dying alone without a void to look forward too. That's why he defeats the wolf, the wolf is a metaphor for death throughout the entire film.

CelticPredator

Yeah, but the Wolf was still breathing. So even if it was dying, he stilled died too.

I'm just sayin. There is a bit of those themes, but that's not what the movie is all about.

And i'm not even that religious. I just never got it being an anti faith, god religion thing.

Live and Die on this day..

It's definitely telling you something about religion throughout the film, I guess the way different people interpret it is based on subject value. But the team for sure had their head in the direction they wanted the audience to go about the themes.

I didn't get anti religious vibes(maybe not rely on it for everything) from the Grey. I got that all people deal with it in different ways. He called out for help and didn't get an answer. Doesn't mean no god, means you're on your own in this life. And the only one that can help you is you. Because you were created with everything you need to get by in life...But sometimes death is coming no matter what. (but i'm not an atheist and not religious either, so maybe one would take away their own interpretation of it if they were)

^ I rated it a 3. It's a fantastic movie.

It is a fantastic movie, but come on, a 3's a bit harsh...I'd give it a 4.

The Next Three Days 7/10 Little unbelievable but duh, it's hollywood. Very well done though.

The Adjustment Bureau 5/10 Nothing special. Not bad but not too good either.

John Carter - 6/10 - A surprisingly good movie. I had not heard anything about it so I was not expecting much. I saw it in a second run theater for 1.50. But I would have paid full price had I known more about it.

May take a beating for this rating ... but ... it is what it is ...

Taxi Driver. 7/10. Weird movie. Maybe a bit overrated. I expected more ... insanity, I guess. With all the talk I'd heard about it, I was expecting Hannibal Lecter or Anton Chigurh -- but Travis Bickle ain't quite there.

Came off more as an urban-decay revenge movie than a guy completely losing it. Not sure I followed it completely, though -- couldn't always tell what the guy was thinking. For instance, I get the mob/pimp massacre ... but didn't follow the thought process on the assassination attempt?

Deniro was great. Without him, rating would've been lower. Very well acted. Foster was good enough, though some of her scenes were hard to watch. I think that was intentional.

Not sure I see any re-watch potential.

I agree witht that. I heard so much about it and when I watched it, I was like "Ya it's an alright movie but...". I'd actually give it a 6/10.

I only caught the second half, but I had seen it before. Great movie. Crowe's character is fantastic. I would love a sequel that follows him. Great performances all around.

We Bought A Zoo: 6/10
It was okay. Very bland and mild, harmless. My wife was particularly annoyed at the movie since it Hollywood-ized the book to such an extent (she had read the book).

The Time Machine (1960) - 7/10

It was good, though some things the main character said bothered me, not a big issue. I liked the re-make from 2002 a lot more. I'm sure I would have rated this movie higher if I was alive in the 60's and saw it back then.

Goblin - 0/10

Another flick I cant even rate. I took a gamble on this flick from netflix. It didnt have a good rating but they got me with the cover art. Basically showing this cool hooded deformed looking...well goblin. Well after watching this horrible piece of trash turns out it was basically a crappy CG little demon guy that looked nothing like the cover art and basically resembling a knock off Ring Wraith from LOTR if anything. Basically this silly monster comes back every halloween to steal babies...yeah i know its crap dont waste your time.

X-Men : The Animated Series (Season 1) - 8/10

One of the better animated(non-comedy) series I've seen, stays true to the source material, deals with real life issues, has alot of funny dialogue. Is sometimes a bit campy but for a kid's show not so often. The first few episodes really took me back to watching that Sentinel in the shopping mall fight when I was young. All in all it puts the movies to shame, and you can watch it free on a few various sites so definately worth checking out.

Rat Race - 7/10

Good farce comedy

I heard that was a remake of Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World ... one of the funniest movies ever made, and one of the best comedy casts ever assembled. Sid Caesar, Milton Berle, Mickey Rooney, Buddy Hackett, Ethel Merman, Jonathan Winters, Spencer Tracy, Phil Silvers, D ick Shawn.

Hell -- major comedians were clamoring for small roles and cameos ... Don Knotts, Peter Falk, The Three Stooges, Jimmy Durante, Jack Benny, Jerry Lewis, Carl Reiner, Jim Backus, etc., etc.

Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World is a strong 10/10

I refused to watch Rat Race on general principle. Mad Mad World is one of those movies that should never be remade.
