After seeing the Hughes montage on the Oscars I could not help but want all the old movies I never got. This being one of them, The nostalgia makes it all worth it, no matter how cheesy it may be by current standards.

Um no. Bastards was a horrible movie of a 2 hours and 15 minutes long conversation with 15 minutes of action sprinkled in...Its boring as ____ but thats my opinion so dont get your panties in a bunch. :rotfl Like I said I hate Tarentino.

Oh and I would hardly say its a Pitt/Waltz movie when Brad is only in it maybe 30 minutes of the 2n1/2hr film.. thats pushing it. Definitely only a Waltz movie. He'd did do a great job like I said...but other then that it was horrible.

I agree. IMO inglorious bastards is one of the worst movies ive ever seen. Its so BORING!!

Paranormal Activity - 9/10

God damn my palms have never sweated so much! :lol
Really enjoyed it. One of the few "scary films" that I think can actually be called a scary film.

Rather than cheap jumps through out the film had a more unsettling and aprehensive during the film, like whats next and how will things escalate. Wont say anymore due to spoilers, but yeah, I enjoyed it and would recomend it. Also... watch it with lights off, gives it such a better feel :D

I really enjoyed it. I think if I had watched it at cinema it wouldnt have had quite the same effect. Its like comedies, when watch them at the cinema people tend to break any atmosphere created by laughing or screaming or talking or spilling popcorn, and it just gets annoying. Also I think if I had watched it with lights on, middle of day with calm weather outside, wouldnt have enjoyed it as much.

Was just a good night to watch a scary film with lights off because wind and such kept making noises outside so every so often was thinking "WTF was that?!"

Won't be everyones cup of tea, but regardless I still enjoyed it.

I watched this yesterday, going into it without really knowing what it was about other than it's regarded as one of Kurosawa's finest films. I loved this film.

The story was great, well written and all the characters felt very organic, like each actor was perfectly placed for the role. Mifune's crazy level was great for his bandit character, and by the end of the film I still wasn't sure what was true, but I guess that's the point.

I'd heard good things about this film so I decided to watch it yesterday and was very glad I did. I love movies based on true stories because it always puts me in awe of what another person can go through/accomplish and this film was no different.

I've never seen Johnny Depp in a role like this one and it was really nice to see him play an ordinary man in unordinary circumstances, not some whacked out semi-psychopath. Al Pacino also did a great job, and his last scene in the film is heart-wrenching.

Overall, a fantastic mob film that manages to make you laugh along the way but still maintain a tense atmosphere, making you fear for each and every character's life.

Clash of the Titans (1981). 6/10

I know I'm going to catch a lot of heat for this rating, but so be it. I just finished up this movie today and I must say, there are some movies that definitely need a remake and this is one of them.

In terms of acting, quality and especially special effects this movie didn't age well. Now I know, it's an older movie and they couldn't do much past stop motion back then but still. They tried to be very ambitious with their effects and I feel it didn't pay off.

Now, I love old movies, and I realize there was a bit of "over acting" going on, but this movie was so campy I was laughing at most of the serious parts. I got the feeling they were trying to make a serious movie and it wasn't, at all. I also felt Harry Hamlin was totally wrong for the role. He was too much of a pretty boy and not once did I believe him as Perseus. I did like Judi Bowker as Andromeda, but that was the only character I felt worked.

Overall, I felt it was a good adventure story, but because of bad acting and outdated effects it fell short of epic. More than anything this movie just made me want to see an updated remake.

I saw about 15 minutes of this on TV a week or two ago. It was intolerably bad. The lead was WAY too girly for a guys-guy role ... and it looks like it had a special effects budget of about $6.50. I think 6/10 is generous.

Well I will.. come on man... the movie is from 1981... it is in the vein of Jason and Argonaughts only better. While not perfect, it is a good depiction of the times. As many movies are. And for the time... that fx budget was decent for them and not easy.

I also Have Clash on Blu-Ray That one is a bit grainy in places, but the sound on that is great too. Still an enjoyable movie, but it does lend itself to a remake

Alice in Wonderland 3D - 7.5/10

I enjoyed it much much more than I thought I would! Very cool designs and the actors look like they had a lot of fun with it. Great to see Crispin Glover! The ending was a little weird/rushed, but other than that I was very pleasantly surprised. If it hadn't been for the ending, I would have rated it a little higher, maybe 8.5.

The story and facts. But a sequel could fix it...

I saw about 15 minutes of this on TV a week or two ago. It was intolerably bad. The lead was WAY too girly for a guys-guy role ... and it looks like it had a special effects budget of about $6.50. I think 6/10 is generous.

Some Like It Hot - 10/10

Watched this film yesterday after hearing many good things and I loved it. It's one of the earliest films to use the comedic ploy of men dressed as women which went on to be used in many movies (White Chicks being the best example... kidding).

Anyways, I loved this film. Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon were on top of their game, and I loved Lemmon's character Daphne. He made me laugh harder than Adam Sandler or Robin Williams has done in years. Curtis' impression of Cary Grant was hilarious.

The thing I enjoyed most about this film was Marilyn Monroe. Good lord, she was smoking hot! I never realized why she was (and still kinda is, even in death) such a sex symbol. If only I'd been born forty years earlier had been the president...

Overall, this movie was hilarious, boasted a great storyline with great actors and has one of the best last lines in a film ever.

Legion - Only the Ice Cream guy was kinda cool but, this movie is pooness! 2/10

The Fourth Kind - A little better, almost on par with the ever so crappy Paranormal Activity. 4/10 We needed to see the damn Aliens first off, also need to see them working on humans like in Fire in the Sky which is a much better movie then this.

Planet Hulk- I am not going to give this movie a hand job like maybe others would because of all the Hulk hype on the boards here but, it was decent. 5/10

Justice League:Crisis on two earths - I enjoyed this a bit more then Planet Hulk, especially The Flash with some funny lines through out the movie but, with both of these last two i can't really admire the crappy/very linear looking animation. 6/10

No i am not sure why either :lol

I love the history behind the American Civil War and the beginnings of the Irish immigrants decending upon the States.

I obvioulsy love Day Lewis's performance but i don't think Leo did a bad job at all either.

I love the costumes and of course the set. Correct me if i am wrong but that was the last time we would see such an elaborate brick built set of this kind. I think its now obviously alot cheaper to build a model etc

Alice in Wonderland 3D.

You know, one would think Tim Burton + Johnny Depp = good movie, but it was terribly disappointing. Flat, uninspired performances, a rushed - and yet somehow boring - plot, and a generic, CGI Lord of the Rings wannabe ending followed by a cringe-worthy few seconds of Johnny Depp dancing made for a waste of $20+ (me and the gf) plus popcorn money.

About half-way through I was thinking I had been tricked into thinking this was a Tim Burton directed film, and that it had only been produced by him... and I was wondering why he hadn't used Danny Elfman instead of whoever it was who had scored such a bland and generic "adventure" score... And then I saw the end credits. WTF happened here?

4/10.

Clash of the Titans (2010) - 7/10

I posted this review in the Clash of the Titans thread too, but I thought it fit in here as well. I saw this movie this afternoon and despite some flaws, I enjoyed the experience. Now, while I had a good time with the movie, I had a better time making Avatar references the whole movie. How could I not?

Anyways, the movie itself. As I recently stated in a review in this thread, I've seen the original and thought it was a campy, poorly acted mess with a good story. The remake is similar in some regards. Overall, I liked the original's handling of the storyline better. This remake streamlines everything for a modern (i.e. dumb) audience and provides plenty of action, but the original had more depth to it with a more nuanced cast of characters.

With regards to the acting, nobody stands out, even with big names like Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson and the new prodigal son of cinema, Sam Worthington. Now this is more likely due to a bland, uninspired script and not acting skills, and it isn't a huge deal seeing as this is an action movie, but I thought I'd mention it. There no Laurence Olivier performance here guys.

All that said, I enjoyed this movie far more than the original. It had some pacing issues and could have used a few more scenes of character development, but the action is very well done and effects are pretty top notch. I thought I was going to hate the Medusa scene from the clips I'd seen, but it turned out to be my favorite sequence from the movie.

Still, as much as we enjoyed it, my buddy and I couldn't stop making Avatar jokes the whole time. When Perseus meets Pegesus for the first time we were like "Make zahalu Jake!" And when one of the main characters dies we couldn't help but throw in a "Go with Aywa now!" At the end of film, while Perseus is atop Pegesus we let loose with a "Taruk Makdow!"

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON - 8/10

I was just dragged to this by my 7-year old daughter, and I expected to hate it. I didn't. As it is a Dreamworks production, I was expecting a lot of throw away pop culture references ala Shrek, but they are wholly absent, thankfully. I was pleasantly surprised to find it a fairly straightforward fantasy story, with engaging characters(although why Vikings are speaking with Scottish accents is beyond me) and a fair share of stirring sequences. On the whole, it's recommended.
