There are always stories about genuine screen used props that cannot be said publicly, I know a couple myself.
 
"There’s a lot of stuff out there waiting to be found. It’s up to us to save it."

One could say that accumulating pieces of cinematic history like these and putting them into private collections is "saving" them. But I'd much rather see them end up in a place where more people could be exposed to them, given how interesting their origin and rediscovery stories tend to be. To quote a certain fictional archaeologist: "It belongs in a museum!" :lol
