Loved all of those when I was a kid. He-Man was #1 for me by a big margin. My grandmother and parents got me so many of the toys growing up its not even funny. Transformers was #2 for sure and I remember crying when they killed Prime. GI Joe was another i had a crap pile of toys from when I was a kid. Good gravy do I wish I had some of them back.

Don't forget about the Smurfs. Maybe not "kick ass," but still a staple in the 80's cartoon genre.

I cried when they killed Prime too. :monkey2

I had pretty much all the Transformers, He-Man, Thundercats, had the Die-Cast Voltron (Lion and Vehicle) and Robotech toys and G.I. JOE's just to name a few. I'd kill to have all that back! I told my Mom I'll never forgive her for getting rid of all of it. :(

I prefer 70s cartoons. Much better, imo. But the 80s ones are fun too.

And what was that other Hanna Barbera cartoon with some blond guy that rode a horse and looked a lot like He Man but had a lightsaber. Something like "Thundar."

I also like the DC Superheroes & friends with the wonder twins.

No, they kicked ass and definitely belong in the same category! :rock

Thundarr the Barbarian! Great, great show. Technically 80s since it came out in 1980, but I always think of it as a late 70s cartoon.

I know it's not 80's, but this is one 70's cartoon that kicked ass...

The Herculoids!!!

My fav as a kid was the Teenage mutant ninja turtles :rock, but would that be more of a late 80's? I think it aired in 86, even though I was a 90's baby 80's had the better cartoons for sure

Turtles rocked too! There will never be another era of cartoons like the 80's.

Most of my faves have already been mentioned, but one that doesn't seem to get much love these days is Silverhawks. True it was a poor man's Thundercats, but it had a kick ass theme song.

My favorite cartoon production company is Filmation Associates from California. While they were around from the 60's to the 80's, I will always remember their Tarzan/Lone Ranger Hour ('80-'81) on CBS. They captured reallife movements with their animation. By far the best of the 70's & 80's.
