Considering Rocco and Snyder-Man's recent GB sculpt offerings, there seems to be some renewed interest in Ghostbusters customs (self included). So, here is a place to discuss custom options and to share/show off efforts. There are some existing threads with discussions on these guys, but there doesn't seem to be a dedicated, generic thread devoted to Ghostbuster customs. Here is an existing thread with some useful information:

Custom heads:

the classic Spenser heads: https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59065&highlight=ghostbusters

Rocco: https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118407&highlight=ghostbusters

Snyder-Man: https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118766&highlight=ghostbusters

and the apparently no longer available set from Vartal (Ray likeness is quite good IMO): https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63179&highlight=ghostbusters

Regarding my efforts, I bought the Mattel Ghostbusters awhile back with the intention of using the gear for customs, and now I'm finally on my way to doing just that. My current plans are to use:

-Mattel Proton Pack and trap
-Rocco and Snyder-Man's head sculpts (I plan on doing 2 Venkmans)
-A narrow shoulder Truetype (or equivalent) body
-Newline German Fallschirmjager jump boots
-Soldier Story M1936 Pistol Belt
-Soldier Story EODMU-11 Flight Suit
-Some cheap elbow pads that sorta kinda resemble the Ghostbusters ones (mine are black, will repaint them gray)--these will be upgraded if Astro_Zombie ever revisits his pads.
-Patches from One Sixth King (you have to search "Ghost Busters" on their site to get results: https://onesixthscaleking.com/shop/...iption=1&keywords=ghost+busters&Submit=Search )
-Maybe taking the tube off the Mattel flight suit and attach it to the new flight suit, though I may just leave them without that tube

Here is my current effort (needs more futzing and adjusting even with what he has):

Currently, I don't plan on dyeing the flight suit, as after doing a fair amount of reading on gbfans.com, I don't think the color is that far off from what the actors actually used, though it may could be improved. Any thoughts on that (i.e., how they could be dyed to look more screen accurate) would be welcome though.

Hooks, gizmos, and walkie-talkies for their belts are on hold for the moment, though I eventually want to get around to it. I love what Elvis did here, though not sure how difficult it would be for me to emulate:

What have others done/what are you doing/considering with these guys?

Thanks Kara for starting this thread!
I'm working on pretty much the same recipe, though I hadn't figured anything out for the patches, so thanks for posting that link!

I wanted to add what I'm going to try for elbow pads :

I thought maybe if I could combine those with some black elastic it might look good. Nerd tid bit: the elbow pads used in ghostbusters were volleyball knee pads :)

I'm still waiting for my various pieces to come in to upgrade my Matty so no pics yet.

Ah, nice shot! With that suit I posted, you think dyeing it the way you suggest will simply get a more muted tan color like the GBs had? I haven't had any experience dyeing stuff.

For my money, rnagata set the high water-mark for Ghostbusters customs with this magnificence over at OSW.

For Halloween, I decided to dive into my favorite movie of all time, Ghostbusters.

I bought the Mattel version of Ray Stanz and wasn't terribly happy with it. So I did my own custom figure and built a 1/6 scale containment unit to display with him.

Quick breakdown, lots of custom work:

Head: Resin cast of a Blues Brothers 2000 Aykroyd, resculpted
Jumpsuit: DML, re-dyed, custom zippers added
Fat Suit: Soldier Story
Patches: Custom woven
Proton Pack, Trap, Goggles: Mattel, altered and repainted (the trap cable is black-coated base guitar string. Pack shoulder straps are custom)
Belt: BGT, re-dyed
Belt gizmos: scratch-built
Elbow Pads: scratch-built
Boots: NLM, re-dyed, custom zippers added
Containment unit: scratch-built

ENJOY!

Working on GB now with Rocco's heads but am turning everything over to a pro for proper painting, weathering etc. That custom is fantastic. Maybe someone will start a containment unit enviro project.

Wow, that Ray is far and away the best GB custom I've seen. I think CREG Customs was considering a containment unit once, but his focus doesn't seem to be on Ghostbusters nowadays. I PM'd him about whether or not he was going to do elbow pads (he said awhile back he planned on doing that and a slimer), and he never responded.

I've been regretting not picking the Mattel GBs for a little while now, and especially with all the killer heads available. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread. Its always fun to see what people do with these.

Wasn't there somebody who did up elbow pads back when these first hit? I could probably give it whirl. I always mix too much apoxie anyhow, this would be something to do with it. :lol

Apparently there is a plus side to the cold medicine I've been taking keeping me up at night. :lol
Thanks to Mr. Odd for pointing out they were using kneepads. I took a cheap kneepad I had in the parts tub and cut the plate out then sculpted over it:

I'll add the outer lip to it tomorrow.
