Make Educated Decisions With The Improved In-Game Pitcher and Batter Analysis Stats and match-up analysis are a baseball fan’s dream!

The Pitch Analysis is a breakdown of all the pitches thrown during the current game being played. You’ll be able sort by pitcher, LHB or RHB, pitch type and result. This is also available for Batters.

The batter analysis allows for a breakdown of how each batter has performed based on LHP or RHP, pitch type and the result.

The pitcher and batter analysis is available for both in-game and post-game. The analysis will appear in the batter / pitcher status screen and the post game pause menu. This information is available for every game played, as well as your Road to the Show career.

Track Batters Throughout The Season With New Progressive Batting Performance Superior performance will earn you rewards and slumps, but will require a little extra effort.

Specific to each batter, you’ll be rewarded with slight contact bonuses for each batter who performs beyond his statistical ability under your control. Conversely, if your performance takes a dip, you’ll see slight decreases in contact for each batter that performs below that statistical ability.

Performances will be based roughly on each batter’s last 20-30 ABs (w/ recent ABs weighted heavier).

SportsConnect Online User Tracking (SCOUT) Makes Online Matchups Easy If you’ve ever had a difficult time finding someone online with the same gameplay setting as yours, the SCOUT system is for you. SCOUT allows you to set your game preferences, store them on the server and look for a Quick Match with an opponent that fits your criteria.

Adaptive Pitching Intelligence (API) really puts you on the bump. MLB 09 The Show is the only baseball game to ever give you the choice to trust your catcher or shake him off. With API, catchers will call the game for you based on the strengths and weakness of each pitcher. And beyond that, catchers will also analyze tendencies of the batters to know if a batter is susceptible to chasing a high heater out of the zone or off-speed low and away.

Pitch Command System (PCS) delivers unsurpassed authenticity and strategy to pitch selection in a baseball videogame. A pitcher’s “pitch comfort” will be predetermined based on a best pitch to worst pitch scenario. Now it’s up to you to decide if you should try to “work on a pitch” or just go with what is working. The more you work on one pitch, the better it becomes. Conversely the more you neglect a pitch; the more challenging it becomes to work the zone.

Online League Play Providing you with the ability to set up leagues with up to 30 teams offering full stat tracking, point benefits and rewards. Customize as you see fit; choose your players, teams, length, rules and much more. Whether it’s you and a couple buddies or 29 of your closest friends, bragging rights are on the line.

Umpire Personalities This year umpires will have unique tendencies and animations. But most importantly, each umpire will have his own definition of the strike zone. It’s up to you to figure out if they’re calling the zone high, low or giving you the corners. The quicker you figure it out, the more successful you’ll be.

Multi-Branch Fielding takes Branch Point Technology to a new level. Now you can take full control of fielders and break out of any animation in the process. Change your fielding decision and branch out of any animation after the first branch point. With Branch Point Technology you’ll pull off unbelievably smooth, fluid transitions for seamless double plays and relays.
3-Man Booth with Rex Hudler bringing additional energy to tell it like it is. Hudler joins Matt Vasgersian and Dave Campbell for the most comprehensive commentary you’ve heard in any baseball game. MLB 09 The Show sets the bar high with progressive commentary that changes you progress through the game, adapting to current actions and situations.

User Controlled Slides let you control base runners down to the last detail. Split-second decisions are the difference between a win and a loss so as you round the bases, you decide when it’s time to get dirty.

Rivalry Mode allows you to set up and maintain multi-game rivalries between multiple gamers or versus the CPU. Follow everything from wins to Ks and see who has the winning edge every time you challenge your rival. Whether you play offline or online, you’ll be able to keep track of all your rivalry stats and bragging rights.

I think the PS store has a demo up I think I will try it.

I had last years game. It was ok but I ended up trading it in as it didn't quite play out the way I like baseball games to play. Which is why I think I'll be giving 2k9 a chance this year.

What I am worried about with 2K9 is the last one I had (Cant remember what year maybe 5 or 6) but it was nothing but a HR fest with singles and doubles being almost non existent. I also hated that damn hit stick I never could get used to the thing. Hopefully they will have a demo up for 2K9 so I can pick the one I like the most.

I had 2k7. It was pretty cool and seemed pretty balanced as far as home runs go. You could on that change the hitting controls to classic which was using the buttons instead of the hit stick. So I'm guessing on 2k9 you can change the hitting and pitching back to those.

The Show is so far ahead of 2K its not even funny. I understand if you only have a 360, but honestly there should not be a single copy of 2K sold for the PS3...its not even close to the level of quality that The Show offers. That said, 2K does look to be improved this year, gameplay videos at Operation Sports show that.

I don't know about that. It was fun last year but I honestly wasn't all that blown away by it. The game was fun but there where aspects of it that eventually took away from the overall experience of the game.

Well enjoy 2K and its broken gameplay, frame rate problems, and overall general buggy construction. I'm not saying that The Show is perfect, but its really the better game and I'd hate to see someone here buy 2K when its clearly the inferior product. There will be a demo for 2K, and there is already one for The Show. Play them and then decide.

Well, everything I've read about this years 2k is that they've gone in and totally revamped things. At least according to Game Informer which is a gaming source I tend to trust. I guess I'll find out as I have 2k on PO and can compare it to how The Show was last year. Which wasn't that great a baseball game when most hits where singles and most pitchers couldn't strike anyone out.

The Josh, I dont want this to sound like an argument, so I'll state that this is just a friendly discussion, no offense is meant or taken. I would like to say that even though personal experiences shouldnt matter, I'd like to believe that my baseball experiece does hold a little value in this matter. I played baseball for 18 years, and continue to be involved in coaching at the highschool level. I have paid close attention to the MLB since I was about 5, so 25 years of watching baseball. That said, The Show is the closest representation of baseball in video game form that I have ever seen, and it continues to improve year after year. If you are a fan of a more unrealistic style of play, then I could see where 2K could hold some merit. If you are a fan of the sport of baseball, there simply is not a better representation...I think that if you do some research on the web, you'll find that this is a common opinion. Also, I know many people were upset when the MVP franchise was eliminated (due to the 2K licensing deal.) If you liked MVP, then you will like, and most likely love The Show.

On to your previous comments:
I think its great that there are a lot of singles in The Show...because if you watch MLB, or any level of baseball for that matter, most hits are singles. I love the fact that the game promotes station to station baseball...thats something that has been a rarity in the past. As far as the pitching is concerned, you must have had a hard time at it, because I could strike out players...better yet, the K numbers per game were very accurate. As I said earlier, I know that they are improving 2K, but its still a long ways away from being a game as polished as The Show. I know, I used to have to settle for 2K on the 360, before I picked up a PS3 a last year. Luckily, I was able to get my baseball fix on the PSP version of The Show, which is also better than the console versions of 2K.

Not taking it as an argument at all. I've got plenty of Baseball experience as well so understand that as well. I've been playing since I was a kid, coaching (not the high school level), umping, and just being around the game. So I take that experience to when I play baseball games as well and totally get where you are coming from. I just don't think The Show is anything special. The pitchers rarely strike anyone out and the hitters rarely get anything more than a single. Which is not the case with real baseball at any level. I liked the MVP franchise and thought it was fun to play as well for that matter. The Show was fun but its not the best Baseball Game I've ever played.

I disagree as I stated above that the game is mostly station to station baseball. Well, now anyways where teams crack the scoreboard for big games on a fairly consistant basis. No, pitching and finding locations was easy but when I was using pitchers that avg in a real game 8k or so and they only get half that. Its not realistic enough for me. Like I said The Show was an ok game but its nothing special nor that close to real baseball as may be for you. Not that I'm saying I'll think this years version of 2k is that great either as I haven't played it yet but I'll take a chance on it this year.

Just for sh*** and giggles, here are last years hitting stats. Of course, the overwhelming majority are singles...I'll list the actual stats below. This is courtesy of MLB btw.

2008 MLB Hitting Overview
Total At Bats: 5557
Total Hits: 1466
Total Batting Average: .264
Total Singles: 973 (.664)
Total Doubles: 300 (.204)
Total Triples: 30 (.033)
Total Home Runs 163 (.111)

In the the past, my stats in The Show have been very accurate in all phases. Not to mention that you can use the sliders to increase certain types of hits...including foul balls. 2K has always been a homer fest, especially with the advent of the terribly implemented "Hit Stick"

I think I'll pick up The Show, but as far as I'm concerned, MLB Power Pros sets the standard. I strongly suggest that any baseball fan look past the cartoony graphics and pick it up, you'll be glad you did.

Downloading the demo now. I just checked and MLB 2k7 was the last bball game I owned and didnt like. If there is a demo of 2k9 I will check it out also and then make my final decision I just want something that is fun and not a home run fest.

Are those supposed to be avg? Singles will usually come out on top but baseball isn't a single fest anymore. Lots of extra base hits all around. I mean Howard hit 48 bombs by himself last year.

A lot of games go that direction I didn't get last years game of 2k but I think I had 06 or 07 can't remember. I don't recall it being a homerfest but I changed it from the hit stick to classic controls.

I just downloaded the demo and gave it a go. And I had a blast!!!! I absolutely loved it. I haven't played an MLB game in ages, so it took me a while to figure out the pitching controls, etc. But I honestly had a lot of fun with the demo. I don't know if I'll shell out the $60 for it now, but I can definitely see me buying this when it comes down a little in price.

Is this game online compatible as well? If so, I'm sold.

I just picked this up yesterday. I hadn't played a baseball game since MVP '05 on Xbox.

I played a quick game and lost 3-2. I'll need to do some hitting practice. I was swinging at a lot of pitches that were out of the zone. I even swung at a pitchout.

I got this Wednesday and I am loving it especially the RTTS mode. Hitting does take some getting used to and when you start off with your rookie you will have games where you cant hit the broad side of a barn but once your skills start to go up you will get more hits and more playing time.

I picked it up about 2 weeks ago. It's an awesome game!
