I have a theory about the bots on here

Isn't it funny that bots keep showing up and posting and nothing seems to be getting done about it? Any chance that they are being allowed to join to posts their links to their sites and that this site is getting some sort or revenue from it? What reason would a link to porn be allowed to stand here unless there was a reason for it? I'm sure losing Sideshow was somewhat of a monetary hit. What better way to get some of that back by allowing spammers free reign in a somewhat low traffic section and getting a kick back for allowing ads?

I have no idea about any of this. I'm trying to come up with a reason that the spamming continues unabated.

There needs to be a filter where the first 10 posts or something like that need to get approval by a mod before being shown. Watch the spammers dry up after that. Also, we've gotten pretty good at weeding out the fakes by their extremely vague first posts. (the ones trying to be clever and not just opening the flood gates on their first post)

That's asking a bit of the mods. I'm still looking to get basic search and previous post functionality back over here

Exactly. As Hood mentioned though, a porn thread with a link would have been almost instantly deleted just a few short years ago. Now we’ve had a couple hang around for a while with active commenting going on in them. Something’s not right.

I don't think Dave's in cahoots with the spammers, but I do wonder why it takes so long for a mod to delete some of these obvious spam threads. Do they not have the authority or clearance to do that?

Snoopy is pretty much the only active mod here and I get the impression he doesn't have power to do anything beyond play a game of whack-a-mole with the spammers - ban them as they crop up - however, he isn't here often enough to see it all or to be bothered by it and he can't take any pre-emptive, long term action. So we have what he have. Dave is probably like Ferris Bueller, wondering what the hell the rest of us are still doing here

I received 3 PM's from newb members here (trollbots) regarding my Want to buy announcement in the classifieds section, they were all asking me to send them an email or a SMS at certain email addresses or phone numbers.

Sorry I don't show up much to see and handle this kind of thing anymore. But to the original poster's argument, I'm sure it is a lack of mod involvement more than anything else that leads to the bot onslaught. It was a challenge to handle even when I was active.

I just got a correct distributor from him for a EBay. You won't find anyone more honest! You can leave him a message, because he hardly answer call.." And I specialize in becoming a magnet for trollbots since this board has no protection whatsoever

All I wish is that the search function worked better. You look up something in the For Sale section and get five results, all over ten years old. Without using an external search engine like Google, it would be nearly impossible to find a specific thing here.
