Yeah regardless of who directs it I've just never seen the appeal in the idea. I love me some X-wings but don't need an entire movie centered around a bunch of X-wing pilots. And at this point it's likely going to feel like a pale imitation of Top Gun Maverick anyway.

Disney accountant: Maverick made a billion dollars... why not make it again, in space?

Pretty much. Space battles are cool when there’s like one per movie and it lasts 5 minutes.

Can't remember is this to be set during the OT, the ST, in between? When?
Or was it never said?

Edit:
Likely meaningless publicity shot, yet that teaser and logo did feature a classic x-wing?:huh

While I still like the idea of a Rogue Squadron film, I have little interest in anything that reinforces the Disney sequels.
I prefer the rag tag setting of the OT fleet, on the other hand, (barring Gilroy's Andor) the less Disney re-visits and re-interprets the time close to the OT the better.
I guess the more self contained this is the better.

Has anyone seen Masters of the Air? It's based on a true story and purported to be very accurate: about B-17 crews in WWII. While not perfect, the nine episode series is very good and shows you the unbelievable conditions these guys flew in -- at times daily. I don't know how they did it. These were real people. Just young men in their 20s.

I can't imagine anyone but Gilroy pulling off a version of Star Wars space combat with even a tenth of the tension and brutality on display in this series (given, they're different animals). It's the only way to make it compelling IMO ... if you're going to have a whole series about fighter pilots you need to not know who's making it out alive.

Masters of the Air is really good. My chemistry teacher in high school had been a B24 pilot during WW2. He used to tell the class about some of his missions and the friends he lost, most of them were 18–19-years old.

WW 1 was good.

I like dog fights in space

I’m willing to give this a shot.

But I’m sure this will be about a female pilot who is better than all other pilots.
