Simply put, they’d need to release a separate figure for a completely accurate Part 2 Paul. You won’t have an accurate P2 Paul if they just do add ons. You don’t care for that? Even if you don’t, you can’t see why that’s wrong?

Again, am I really the only one taking these crazy pills?

That’s why I’ve been saying this should’ve been Part 2, given how they operate and their limited slots. The only correct solution is to scrap this one and “restore” it to a Part 2 version or straight up offer a Part 2 version. The unit numbers would kinda cancel each other out (smaller run for both Part 1 and Part 2 Pauls each) as people would end up cancelling their current orders in favor of the Part 2 version and INART should be ready or have a plan to deal with that. No idea how they didn’t see this coming. That people would obviously want Paul with the Eyes of Ibad. I myself am like that, but by no means would I want that if it means sacrificing accuracy. Not from INART. If this was Hot Toys pulling this, that’d be a different story, I wouldn’t care as much. But with INART? Come on guys. We should encourage them to be at their best…..
My only real gripe with your argument is that you’re discrediting the collecting community’s ability to make the part 1 Paul accurate to the part 2 appearance with a little old fashioned elbow grease.

An accessory pack and the stock figure would indeed be inaccurate to part 2 Paul. However, add a pinch of moderately talented customising ability to the mix and boom, part 2 Paul achieved.

I also don’t believe swappable eyes would be nearly as difficult or potentially dangerous/fragile as you do. I actually think it would be pretty simple, especially if the back of Paul’s head opens up like Joker’s.

I certainly don’t begrudge anyone a separate Part 2 Paul release, and perhaps my confidence with customising and kitbashing makes me far more receptive to the idea of an accessory pack.

So, regarding InArt compromising their standards, my take is that an accessory pack wouldn’t be them saying ‘this will make your figure a part 2 Paul’ but more ‘here’s the parts to help you get you started on creating a part 2 Paul.’
Hell, if they don’t do it, someone will start a run over at customeonesixth to make the robes at the very least.

An accessory set should probably only be offered if IA have no intention of making a full Part 2 Paul, but they’re probably strongly considering that option now.

I guess one positive with Hot Toys is you can usually trust they’ll bust out the main character from a new license they hold and it’ll get announced somewhat in line with the movie/show. Part 1 Paul would be releasing around now or already be in our hands so we’d have no need to squabble over how we’d manage to get the Part 2 because it would have been guaranteed all along.

Harry Potter is a flash in the pan compared to this. HP is small and pale and weak in comparison.
I quite strongly disagree with this statement simply because Dune has always been fringe sci-fi and HP has mega mainstream appeal.

But, We’ll have to wait and see how the new HP show WB is planning impacts the brand.
Hopefully Zaslav can minimise the hiring of production team members who first and foremost identify as activists to avoid yet another ‘retelling of a beloved but problematic story for modern audiences’ approach.

Name me one figure from any franchise, made by any company that is 100% accurate.

This reminds me of how over in the Star Wars forums someone will point out how inaccurate somebody's blaster is and there will be ten pages of "RAAAAAAHHHHHHHGGGHHHHH!" over it. Which, admittedly, can be pretty amusing.

Chopper: I quite strongly disagree with this statement simply because Dune has always been fringe sci-fi and HP has mega mainstream appeal.

Fringe sci-fi? I dunno. Its certainly stood the test of time, to the point where people who have never read even the first book are enjoying and discussing these movies and wanting to read the books themselves. It would be interesting to see where Harry Potter is 60+ years from now.

I dont really hold much with mainstream appeal. I was halfway watching the trailers in the theatre the other day, waiting for 2 to start. What did I see?

*Godzilla and King Kong team up as Defenders of the Earth... 'kay
*Teenage vampire ballerinas, with lots of snarky dialogue between 'tweens. RIVETING
*Ghostbusters, a franchise I admittedly and most thoroughly hate
*A movie about tornados, complete with snarky/obnoxious lead
*Wolverine and Deadpool. My only thought was "Wolverine, please kill him. Find a way."

I dont even know what else, I was looking at my phone. But my point here is: these have mainstream appeal. How many of them will be A Thing 60 years from now?

@Ramatuelle

I’d say Solo Darth Maul is accurate. Bang on, top to bottom.
Technically no. If he was completely screen accurate he’d look blue and fuzzy.

Good lord this back and forth is exhausting

I have to ask though, how different does Paul look in Dune 2. I keep seeing it said that "He's older, he'd need an older looking sculpt" - when the film takes place in like 6 months or something. Just how much older is he supposed to look? He's just more desert worn. That's it.

It sounds like the differences are some accessories, a new sculpt with blue eyes, and a more weathered suit. I don't really know what else is inaccurate.

If IA would really offer an extension pack with those accessories and a second headsculpt (I highly doubt that though), then the only "problem" for a part 2 look would be, the suit is not weatherd enough.

That is what I understood.

From time to time I see people drawing lines to compare the figure with a picture from the movie to show inaccuracies.
I am just not that guy. I am fine with 80-90% accuracy...

I call Dune fringe sci-fi just because it's always been something for the most dedicated of nerds.

I think there's a big difference between those listed upcoming trash movies being lazily made for the lowest common denominator to maximise their box office potential, which by design will all be forgotten immediately after being watched- if not during- and something like Harry Potter where the books were full blown global phenomenon, which the movies then piggy-backed off and matched, and the adoration is still going strong.
At least here in the UK, we can easily measure the continued interest in all things Potter simply by observing the number of people still visiting Harry Potter Studio. It's perpetually crammed with 3 generations of fans.

I'm not saying Potter is better than Dune or more significant to it's genre or that the movies are more competent works of art but it's immensely popular all over the globe and continues to attract new generations of fans. I see no reason why the books won't continue to be essential reading for kids and a staple of every household. My generation will be reading Harry Potter to their kids and showing them the movies and the cycle will repeat itself.

To borrow hyperaccuracydrive's favourite term of late; to say HP was a flash in the pan is simply

The sculpted hair admittedly looks really good; the color of the prototype was just way off, both hurting the likeness and being too dark to appreciate the detail. This is a nicer look at it.

That said, I still went with the rooted personally. If I'm paying InArt prices, I want the full experience, y'know?

As far as wanting “blue” eyes all it would require is a Tamiya Pro II Ultra fine point paint brush and a light blue wash. It would give them a slight hue which is what everyone chomping the bit about. Just like simple weathering techniques. There are some who aren’t artistically inclined so once my figure shows up I’ll wash his eyes with blue, post it for viewing and start taking orders as needed. In fact I’ve also ordered AugToys version which is due to release next month. I’ll hit his eyes with a little blue and post him once in hand and he’s had his “spice” treatment. In all honesty I didn’t see much blue in anyone’s eyes. It’s so slight it was hardly noticeable. David Lynch’s version showed an almost blue glow to everyone and it was quite noticeable.

It's not going to be accurate regardless, my man. For one thing, they have that weird button on the crotch that I hope will be fixed for the final release...

Here's the good news: you are getting as close to accurate a Part One Paul as you could possibly hope for! Nothing they do about Part Two accessories is going to change that, and nobody can force you to display it a certain way. So why are you getting so offended and acting like this is a moral question?

People want a definitive InArt Paul. This is likely the only InArt Paul we'll ever get. So people are asking for more accessories to have more options. It's not difficult calculus to follow.

I want a Part 2 Paul, dude. That’s what I want. If I can choose, I’d rather have Part 2. So why should I be content with having a kitbash figure?

I’m strictly talking overall design. Part 1 Paul vs Part 2. No idea why it’s being spun that I’m expecting 100% perfection in every sense of the way. I’m literally just talking about how these add ons won’t achieve a Part 2 Paul as it should be.

Ideally, this release should’ve been a Part 2 Paul. But it’s not due to licensing, etc blah blah.

I also am sure most people want stock things.

Part 1 vs Part 2. Principal photography stages. Timothée Chalamet aged between those years. Not a big deal at all if they don’t update a sculpt to match Chalamet’s appearance in Dune: Part Two (2024) but it’d be ideal, no? Or are we okay with them reusing sculpts like how Hot Toys does? But the one thing they would have to make sure of is to update the hair. His hair is shorter in the “Part 2” look.

I rewatched the film last night and it only solidified it for me even more that I want a Chani figure.

Paul and Chani (ideally both Part 2) and I’d be golden. Or Part 1 since Paul is Part 1 ;)

BUT. Are you not afraid that a layer of paint is going to affect the rolling eyes component? With fixed eyes that'd be fine. I'd be really worried about the eyes getting stuck in place or something. Or moving them and then white ends up showing.
