I bet there's been some OT collectors who just bowed out, some due to frustration with decisions like this, lack of ESB Han after releasing all the other main Bespin players. And then of course releasing 3PO in order from least desirable (AOTC) from an OT sense to most desirable (ANH, still not there yet).

What a gorgeous repaint (thanks for posting the steps you took, may look at doing something similar on one of my 3POs) and great to see that amazingly accurate SSC 3PO body sculpt get the paint it deserves. The only drawback is that SSC 3PO head/face is a pretty weak sculpt (I say this as the owner of two SSC 3POs.
)Not sure HT went with the best app method to achieve it, but I do think that some people are forgetting that in ROTJ, 3PO looked a little weird with his surface sheen seeming almost a dull orange in some scenes. And I love that HT matched the super-weird/grid wires layout that is unique to ROTJ, another strange choice made by the ROTJ filmmakers.
The Sideshow to me has the best 3PO body sculpt of any 1/6 3PO, but the Tama is far and away the best overall. I also had hopes that this HT version might equal or even top the Tama but on a weathered figure. I'm actually not a huge fan of the Sideshow weathering however, almost looks like molasses in places, and the gold seems more painted than plated. I took a (bad) cast of my Tama 3PO's face and put it on my SSC 3PO then repainted it into the weathering I wanted (dirty ANH Tatooine) but the results were kind of mixed.
I was thinking the same... the speckled on sand effect weathering kind of suits the sail barge scene. So i'm ok with it.Upon watching ROTJ for the 1 millionth time yesterday,the weathering makes sense from a Jabbas Palace and Sail Barge POV.
Keen to get this inhand to note if it's just everyone's amazing camera skills picking up the amount of weathering OR of it really that noticeable to the naked eye?
A few shots in the film show the weathering so im good with it.
I assume the cleaner version of 3PO will release NEXT yr for the ROTS anniversary or for 2027 for ANH 50th.
