Hot Toys C-3PO (ROTJ)

They'll probably go all chrome with the inevitable ANH version.

Maybe they'll also add sound effects and a remote control akin to the R2 deluxe.

I share the concerns of others here about the paint spackling. However, there is no guarantee HT will do another one of these from another film. And if they do, it could be years. Many of us felt a Bespin Han was a no brainer when HT released several Empire-related figures, but it didn't happen yet. When they did Back to the Future they released the part 2 Doc first, and took several years before doing the version from part 1. We never got another traditional Terminator Endoskeleton since the early years of Hot Toys' existence for some reason. And it took way too long to get any 3PO at all, despite the fact that he's one of the most important characters in the franchise. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason to what they do unless you are talking about Joker, Iron Man, or Storm Troopers which will seemingly always get love.

So, I'm on the fence about this. The cost is the only major barrier to my pulling the trigger. If it were $75 less it would be easier to justify buying something I may need to offload later for a loss. And knowing that maybe half of all HT figures end up with serious discounts on SSC's website is also a small factor. If we are seeing this guy for 30% off with free shipping then it's a lot easier to justify.

All that being said, the in-hand video reviews I'm seeing make him look pretty dang good, and including Crumb is a nice bonus.

Got mine today, very nice figure in hand and a very heavy figure, more to come on that later...




So on the weight, I recommend anyone that gets this figure to never pick it up/lift it from the torso.
The ball joint on mine holding the torso to the legs/midriff is very loose.
Fell apart 3 times already resulting in the below damage and the left foot popped off.
Luckily and I don't know how none of the pistons and sticking out parts have not been damaged and luckily I plan to display him like in the picture above so the damage is not noticeable.
Be warned!

I was hoping this would be my definitive Threepio. I have the Tamashii for that pristine Medal Ceremony 100% diecast Threepio and it's amazing, but I was really hoping for a mostly diecast Threepio with some REALISTIC weathering that's a bit less in your face than the very movie specific AOTC version. But that speckling is an odd choice. Might have to pass and hope for an ANH version. But with my luck, that version will have minimal or no weathering too.

As a side note, as bizarre as it seems, I actually think the Sideshow version has the best weathering job of any widely available figure at the moment. And you can't really tell how light and plasticy he is on display!

All that said, the best Threepio I've EVER seen was the Tamashii version that one of our board member customized with some very authentic looking weathering. Was that you @davejames ?

Thanks for highlighting this, too much up in blue. When something releases, it's easy to give critique and only sober up long after when the hopeless wait for the next rendition kick in.

I share similar thoughts. Do think this is a more limited run than most prior releases so I wouldn't sleep on it for too long if it's essential to your collection.

Nope not me. The Tama is so gorgeous I haven't felt the desire to do any mods or weathering at all to it. Even though it does come across far too clean and sparkly for a proper SW display.

I would have loved a weathered 3PO in the collection, but that awful speckling just doesn't work for me at all. Plus something about his stance just seems off to me, compared to the Tama that absolutely nailed it. Unless people just aren't posing him right with his back arched.

Same here. This 3PO looks great, but the Tamashi (despite it's age) is still a level above.

Looking forward to this guy arriving, but a bit confused with the weathering. Will probably tone it back a little with some kind of remover.

I still have my custom Sideshow C-3PO repaint to fill in my ANH needs for now:

Yeah, I'm not going to remove all of it, mostly cuz some sections look kinda cool, but maybe 50%

Got to wonder if this will be like the paint on the Hot Toys First Avenger Captain America shield. When mine started flaking off, I just used nail polish remover and it took it all right off without damaging the metallic finish underneath. Ended up with a nice pure chrome shield.

I like the dirt/grime and I think it will go well with the AOTC R2D2 that I have.

Don’t sleep on this one folks. This is incredible. The weathering is amazing in hand,

Beautiful work!

Got mine very impressive in hand! he is very fragile though, the pointy thing on the top of his head popped off when I popped the face plate off luckily it went right back in the slot.

Concerned about these reports of 3PO being fragile. The Tama seems built like a tank. Still keeping my order as this might make for a Jabba backgrounder if Hot Toys decides to go there.
