Sideshow Beetlejuice (new figure?)

I think Sideshow sculpts come out looking very close to their prototypes and promo pics. It's the quality of Sideshow sculpts that's always in question - those baffling cartoonish style portraits that seem to run through all of their lines. They do, however, deliver on those cartoonish sculpts without terrible downgrading. If you can live with that, it's what you'll get. Many sculpts from many different makers do tend to suffer a bit during mass-production. Some 10-20% (not a scientific measure by any means, but purely by eye) of the detail is lost from moulds, and In some cases it could be much higher when paint apps are poor. The more extreme cases are when a sculpt comes out very different from prototype and every company, no matter how big, has those few massive misfires in their history.

This one is different, though, and Sideshow may have proposed a challenge to themselves with this figure. It's interesting that this is the first Sideshow reveal with an incredibly detailed and hyper-realistic sculpt that goes well above anything they've previously shown. It seems the InArt game-changing is having a wider influence across other makers, including Sideshow now. This may be Sideshow's Achilles Heel and they'll have to prove they can reach something that approximates this level of completion, even if it's within some small 20% margin of downgrading. It's a stylized character portrait wearing heavy makeup, so that should make it easier, but if Sideshow can't get the extreme detail they're showing here, or approach the level of paint quality (i.e. mess up the eyes and it will be terribly underwhelming) then they'll be in trouble. Sideshow is quite reliable with outfit tailoring, and often very unreliable with body quality, but sculpts aren't their biggest problem. Not until now.

I expect this figure to be an easy sell, regardless of it being a SS figure or not. I don't particularly think it'll be worth the $300+ (after taxes/shipping) they'll likely charge for it. But I doubt it'll hang around in stock for long.

Given the hand book is included I wonder what the exclusive would be. I'm wondering if hot toys will also do a version given the 2nd film is on the way.

Sideshow we know overcharges....but this to me is worth $300, but we know they'll charge closer to 400 because they actually made a figure worth $300.

I kind of feel like they’re going to price this over $300. The Clint Eastwood figures as recent examples have been close already. The latest, William Munny from Unforgiven is $295.

I could see this Beetlejuice being like $320 with the rooted (or however they’re doing it) hair being some of the justification. It’ll probably be close to $400 when all is said and done (shipping and tax).

$300 I might be persuaded to buy. $400 is a no-go.

But you just know it will be in-between that, and likely closer to the $400 figure. Decisions will have to be made, and some sacrifices...

This is what SS should have been doing all along at their 300 dollar price point. Finally they made a great looking figure,and a great head sculpt and you just know they'll try their darnedest to upset fans.

I am a bit disappointed though that it looks to be basically the same figure just with a new sculpt.

I mean the original figure was okay for the time minus the sculpt but there are improvements that could be made.

Still though I lean more towards getting this than not getting it. I regretted passing originally and almost paid more than it was worth a few times.

Sadly I fear I want a Beetlejuice for my collection too much....

That said, i think the price tag could maybe be a little less painful if they actually bothered to include the Tombstone this time instead of trying to sell it separately at nearly the cost of a whole other figure.

I’m curious what they’ll include for accessories. The first one really had nothing other than the nail file which was one of the swap out hands. This one looks like it’s including the book. The tombstone would be a good inclusion.

Would be nice for them to include a diorama base, when you look at David from lost boys and price what you get.

Actually really looking forward to this might end up ditching my quarter scale version.

I don’t think I will be able to resist this one. Their first version was such a punch in the d$&@. I love the look of this one though. I think he will pair nicely with the Art Figure Scissorhands

I dunno. They said it's just the old figure with a new headsculpt, but the fit of the clothing looks better than the OG Beetlejuice. Maybe it's a case of prototype-itis?

Credit to Betomatali for putting a figure of this guy on anyone's radar. From that, I attempted my own custom using a Rocco sculpt, lamb's wool for the hair, and a makeshift wedding tuxedo years before the SSC one was released. But never got too far with it. Never considered their first release because of the horrible head sculpt. But this looks so damn good. Gonna be hard to pass.

I think the final product will look good, because the last Beetlejuice figure looked more or less like the prototype.

I still think HT and Inarts can do much better, but this will be good enough for now, assuming Beetlejuice 2 is a big hit and it opens up the floodgates.

I dunno I kind of worry about the sequel. Hopefully it’s good but I’m also kind of over the idea of doing legacy sequels. It feels like half of them exist to dump on the original film/characters while reeling in fans with hopes of false nostalgia.

Is the figure magnetic?

In the videos it appears his feet are stuck to some type of small base or platform.

Hope it also comes with the tombstone that the old figure included.
