My mother was one of those people who believed that objects could have spirits/demons attached, so on occasions where we got such objects and she noticed spooky goings on she would throw/burn the items. I put it to the test by hiding the item and burning something else or digging the item from the trash and just hid the item, in the house. after a week or two or being haunting free I revealed that the items never left and it was all in her head. all the spooky goings on were just her either hearing the neighbors and assuming the sounds were in the house or just simply imagining things. Other times it was an unnoticed draft making things flap or knocking sounds caused by the central heating.

Basically in my experience (including dealing with people outside the family) all hauntings are actually just normal occurrences that people misidentify as being supernatural.

Not sure where else to post this. I’ve heard of accounts of haunted antique dolls that are possessed by the spirits of the dead (or spooky things of a malevolent nature). But, what are the chances that 1/6 dollies could be haunted? 🤔
Possessed 1/6 figures? Have these supernatural forces not read reddit and FB posts of us messed up freaks? Always whining, complaining, nitpicking, obsessing over stupid details that don't matter "Heath Ledger's Joker socks has 11 threads on the left foot instead of 15!!!" "My brown shipper was damaged in the mail, should I sell my totally fine and undamaged MK503 and rebuy the figure? I feel like I can't sleep!" They'd be happier possessing used Starbucks coffee cups.

I live in a really old town on the Oregon Coast. I’ve had several interesting experiences with other worldly things. There are things in this world that are unexplainable under normal circumstances. I am a true believer from having my own experiences.
Here’s one…
My Mother was visiting me last year in November around Thanksgiving time. I have a room in my house I had quite the setup in. I had some 50 plus hook eyes in the ceiling. We spent a day removing all the hooks. We both stood in the room looking up to make sure we’d gotten all of them removed. The following day I opened the door and looked inside. Holy crap! There was one hook back in the ceiling, and, at a very odd angle. The previous day, I had, with another person, removed all the hooks. *When I screwed all the hooks in myself they were all straight. So, I called to my Mom , “Hey come look at this.” We both stood there at the door, dumbfounded looking at that single hook near the center of the room screwed in crooked. Neither of us put it back in the ceiling yet we found it there the next day. Funny thing is that she had taken a picture of the ceiling and shared it with my sister saying how much we’d accomplished in my old grow room. That photo showed a clean ceiling void of any hooks. 🪝
I also have a woman friend who’s also had some pretty extreme experiences that have scared her half to death in her own home. She was quite shaken by some of them. Mine weren’t scary just really interesting. There are things we just can’t explain in this life with science. Supernatural is a perfect word for some of them.

It was me. I was living in your walls at the time and used those hooks to hang up my freshly washed undies to dry

I also have had some very interesting experiences that for a while had me convinced of the supernatural until I came across more natural explanations. One occasion I got the logical reality almost immediately:

One night as a teen I got up for a drink of water. I walked downstairs and headed to the kitchen. As I walked I heard a board creak but there was nothing I could see so thought nothing of it.

After getting my drink I left the kitchen and headed to the hall when I saw at the bottom of the stairs stood just feet away a grey alien (like you would see in the X Files) with big black oval eyes, pale grey skin, about 4 feet tall. For a brief moment we looked at each other then I just kinda seized up and tried but was unable to scream, my mouth agape and eyes wide. Upon seeing this the alien then screamed and started running up stairs and as it did I saw it was my little brother. He was about 4 feet tall and had a volumous bowl cut that made his head look large. I was not expecting to see anyone so when I saw someone stood in the dim light with that silhouette my brain just filled in the missing detail and boom! Clear as day a grey alien. Our brains do this kind of painting in info all the time (hence why most blind spots are unnoticed until you get an eye test) so such fails of the brain are common. Problem is most people do not want to admit they are fallible. I will admit that had my reaction been to run back to the kitchen I would not have seen my brother run away (and he would not have screamed as result of seeing my reaction) and no one would have been able to convince me I had not just seen a grey alien in the house.

My brothers story is that he heard me get up in the night and being a bit of a tattle tale had sneakily followed me to see what I was up to. As I exited the kitchen and entered the hall he saw me suddenly stop (he thought at first that I was guilty of something like nicking chocolate) but then he said I went weird and my face turned to like a silent terrified scream and was shaking so that scared the crap out of him and he ran upstairs screaming to mum.

That day was when I first learned that personal experience was not reliable and there is likely a logical explanation for almost everything. Later I learned of Occams Razor and so I know that obviously someone hallucinating or otherwise mis-seeing/misidentifying something is far more likely than space aliens that somehow look humanoid coming from potentially thousands of lightyears away visited or that some sort of non physical entity from higher plane of existence that cannot be studied knocked a lamp over for sh*ts and giggles.

Every day we see a new bucketload of videos capturing the exact moment something highly unlikely happens. Like a guy in outer Mongolia carrying a bag of groceries containing all the raw ingredients for a hamburger when he gets struck by lightning and a car at the same time and as he hits the ground a perfectly cooked burger lands in his lap. And even though it happened at night in the middle of a hailstorm we see it all in crystal clear full HD. And in the replies some dude posts a similar video captioned 'NO WAY - the EXACT SAME thing happened to my cousin in the Amazon last week'.

But somehow, every video you see on #paranormal instagram or #unsolvedmysteries tiktok looks like it was recorded on a 1980s-era home security camera.

Turns out nobody's more camera-shy than the dearly departed.

As someone who used to get sleep paralysis I count myself lucky I didn't get the hallucinations with it.... the paralysis was terrifying enough
I was 5 the first time it happened. Started up again in college. The hallucinations were just a vaguely threatening presence, but when it happens now, that presence feels more possessive. I can see how people would suspect something demonic at work.

In reality, it’s a normal response to being immobile and aware of it in a hypnogogic state, where personification of the emotion is possible.

what do you guys see during sleep paralysis? do you hang a predator poster on the ceiling?
