Blimey! What is wrong with Exo-6 at the moment? Given that half of their Voyager lineup has been less than stellar, why would they think anyone would want to take an overpriced punt on a pre-order, with some vague promise that it might be slightly less awful when it ships? This one deserves to tank, just to put theirs/Nanjin’s ego in check.

I’m pre-ordering now based on whether I like the prototype. I have Data, Geordi, Odo and Saavik waiting. I expect all of these to look good in hand, whereas I’ve passed on others. I get it’s a small company but if you keep rewarding them for subpar products then they’ll keep putting out subpar products. The inconsistency across the entire line is maddening, irrespective of whether or not we should be grateful for getting ST 1/6th scale at all. It’s almost like that’s being used as an excuse.

A little transparency would be nice and also less of the tiresome jabs toward “experts” who have actually been very on-point with how these releases have been handled. Nanjin started off really strong here and has just ended up being obnoxious and repetitively condescending on his social media channels. It’s the worst part about collecting this line, which should be fun.

I just don't get the expression. Why that expression? I know there's a S7 promo photo they're trying to match but they just can't get that expression. The figure would look 100% better just by changing the mouth like this...

I went ahead and preordered Neelix. Honestly none of the VOY heads are bang on. Paris is still the worst with Kim and B’Elanna and this Neelix close behind. They were easier to swallow with the reduced prices, but I get the price bump with the unique needs for Neelix. And inflation is a one way street. That’s just capitalism. You’ll never see the price of these things go back down to Janeway levels.

At the end of the day it’s an individual assessment if the value matches the price. For me as a VOY fan with the disposable income and no other economical (i.e. non-custom) pathway to a cool 12” crew of one of my favorite franchises it is. If something came up as they tend to do and finances got tight for me I’d still try to make it work and pick it up to complete my set.

By the same token I’ve walked away from all the movie based figures so far and have zero regrets.

Harry Kim is actually a decent figure in hand. Got mine a few weeks ago and I was surprised by it. Not great but he’s okay standing in the background of my display.

Also to add insult to injury one thing I noticed with the Sideshow listing for Neelix is if you pre-order with them there’s a $10 up charge. Not factoring in tax and shipping.

I felt the same with the EMH, he’s easily one of the best characters and I love him. But I did not like the figure at all, that weird smile thing - a very odd sculpt. I was so disappointed as he is a must, or in this case, a must not.
So you're not going to order?

I already posted on FB on Nanjin's post and said the Neelix was sadly one I couldn't commit to due to the head sculpt and was critisied by other stans as uh oh here come the "head sculpt experts", I don't like the fact I cannot even say this sculpt is not something I like or the expression is not something I like. I normally wouldn't post about it but this one is just such a sore point as a collector, I'm going to have a crew member missing, as its just not Neelix for me. The outfit wasn't a big deal, it was just the weird expression/open mouth.

Obviously its not Nanjin commenting that, but it kinda feels like theres some sort of thing where you can't even provide feedback, surely a company would like to hear customer feedback?

That's how I have been feeling for a while. That Trek collectors are so starving for merchandise that we take whatever is given to us and say it's amazing.

If Hot Toys released a preorder with a render they would be laughed off the internet. But since this is Trek we have to smile and be grateful

Yeah, and everyone always likes to tout the line about how this is the only version of this character we’ll ever get. Might be true but doesn’t close the door on criticism.

Showing a rendering of the sculpt along with placeholder pictures as the selling pictures is something even a lot of third parties wouldn’t do.

Yeah the Doctor sculpt is one of the biggest disappoints for me so far. His trademark grimace would have been perfect for this figure and really fun to have, but instead we get this weird forced smile.

I'd love if someone came along someday and offered some upgrade sculpts for some of these, but I know that's a long shot.

Call me crazy but I think Nelix looks good. Yeah, he has a derpy expression but he's a derpy character. The Jar Jar of Star Trek. If anything how stupid the expression is makes him more accurate.
I'm obviously not a Nelix person... but this is an extremely accurate figure.

As for the choice of his clothing since usually Neelix would wear something a bit more brown or tan or whatever. I believe this choice of the loudest and most horrible clothing he's ever worn also fits the character. It's pretty ugly. It fits Neelix perfectly. I'd literally give this figure one of the highest scores out of all the EXO-6 figures.

I'm not even joking. I think this figure is crazy accurate and well done. It really captures the soul of who Neelix is, annoying and with horrible taste in clothes. If I liked Voyager more I'd probably get him just to complete the crew, but I'm not rich and I have TNG to focus on (and DS9 as really close second)...

What you’re seeing here is a group of collectors who are willing to prostitute themselves to his glory by shrinking back from ANY comment whatsoever that could be taken poorly by His Highness and attack anyone with the backbone to do so just that, all in the hopes that they will the the chosen ones to make it into his exclusive Section 31 club. It’s sad as Hell, but I guess everyone makes his or her own choice.
