Outdoor shots. I love that figure!

Yeah, anyone that isn't impressed with that above is probably not going to be easy to please.:lol

This figure certainly has its issues, and Sideshow pretty much ALWAYS deserves the scorn it receives. The price was utterly insulting, and even if not as bad as usual it has accuracy issues that plague SO many SSC figs - like the Dumb and Dumber non-helmeted head, chestbox being a bit undersized, the fig being a bit too tall and the helmet deco being off (though not as badly as the Red Five Luke helmet)

But to me, side-by-side on the shelf, this figure 100% blows away figs like HT Luke Bespin and HT Luke farmboy. Not even close. There are aspects to this figure that HT will never match - the jacket and white bib for example are spot-on in fabric selection, tailoring and accuracy, both remarkable 1/6 cut/sew achievements.

Well as this discussion has started I thought I might weigh in. I bought the X-Wing Luke because of my love of the trench run as a kid and that Luke figure was a must for me. I may have also bought the Snowspeeder Luke at the time but the price put me off totally.

I actually managed to get this Snowspeeder Luke discounted in a Christmas sale last year. But once I had him I thought he looks so similar to the X-Wing pilot version.

In the end he just didn't do it for me. I guess I also wanted one version with a decent headsculpt to have with helmet off.

So I decided to sell him at a really good profit and wait and see if Hot Toys do a version. But certainly no regrets.

It's funny but when it came to deciding, the X-Wing pilot had more meaning to me due to the connection to the first film and that trench run. That did surprise me actually.

Money and price aside I guess it depends on the individual and how much the figure means to you.

I understand, Hoody, I agree it all depends on what the outfit and style means to you. And other cost factors...

For me, this snowspeeder Luke meant much more than the trench run pilot Luke.

I had the chance to compare them in hand, since a friend of mine got the pilot, and I got this one.

This one gives me a lot more "feeling". Even if I did not change or "upgrade" the stock figure.

Of course, it is not perfect. Some of the drawbacks I had to spend more cash or time fixing them: padding removed, body replaced to a Hot Toys, lightsaber hilt replaced to a HT one, boots replaced with the Bespin HT ones, I added a leather strap to the blaster holster and I am using some spare naked hands, no gloves...

That, I understand, can be too much for many collectors. In my case I had clear in my mind this was the Luke I wanted to have.

Yeah for me the X-Wing outfit has always felt much more iconic. And the proportions on the Snowspeeder Luke always look a bit off to me as well. The figure seems way too tall even from pics, and I've never really been fond of the puffier Hoth look versus the slimmed down Dagobah look.

I know this old custom might be really rough in comparison and not have the same great tailoring, but I still prefer the overall look and find it a much cooler figure to look at for some reason. And I would buy it over the Sideshow version any day.

Well, it is expensive. Mostly due to a considerably lower edition size. And sorry, I feel that your opinion would have more weight if you actually had the figure in hand. As you can see in this thread, most people here get surprised of how good this figure is when they actually display it.
It’s just an opinion. I guess I didn’t really mean to imply others are wrong for liking it I just don’t see it as that great. It could very well be a figure that’s better in person but I’m not heartbroken that I don’t have it.

I think for me the Red 5 figure looked better because I was never a fan of the poofy look of this outfit. I like the flight vest that this version adds but overall the proportions on it look odd and I think its largely because of the outfit having that poofy look.

It looks like one of SS's better efforts and i would have been happy to buy it at the RRP. The price seems to have gone up substantially on the aftermarket though. I would not be comfortable dropping that much on a figure, knowing it's only a matter of time until HT makes their own version.

I leave a link to a short clip where you can see my modded SSC Luke.

Definitely one of SS better efforts when the helmet is on. With the helmet off, it’s pretty standard SS product.

Two gripes of mine is regarding the scale and the lack of snow attachment for the stand. It was promoted as Snowspeeder version so the Hoth snow would have been a nice touch.

For such an expensive figure they definitely cheaped out on the accessories. Grappling gun should have been there too. They should have maybe skipped the extra head in favor of those items.

I hate Sideshow’s figure stands. They’re so lazy and look like no thought is put into them at all. Nine times out of ten they give us those plain black hexagons that maybe at most have the film or franchise logo.

I agree with most of this except for the part about this being better than DX07. I still feel the DX is superior.

But yeah the only significant improvements hot toys would certainly be able to make would be superior sculpt paint and a better paintjob/weathering on the helmet. But both of those improvements would be very welcome. HT would also have included the damn grappling gun:mad:

Sorry, I didn't mean the headsculpt, and I don't mean specifically the quality. I meant side-by-side on the shelf, to me the Luke Snowspeeder is the more impressive fig and has more "presence" than HT Luke Bespin. Most of that is the difference in outfit, but I just give credit to SSC for pulling it off well (for the most part - as I said, I have many issues with the Luke Snowspeeder.) I still think the BD Luke Bespin is the best Luke sculpt to date (really not a fan of the non-BD though.)

The DX non BD sculpt for sure is not a top notch likeness like some other sculpts HT has done, it's more of a hero sculpt of Hamill and I enjoy it myself.

The Snowspeeder Luke is definitely the more complex of the two outfit wise and Sideshow did a nice job with that. I would honestly have a difficult time picking my favorite Luke costume from the movies, that is a very long conversation. The good news is I don't have to pick, the bad news is I have to buy all of them:)

I'm secretly hoping that Bespin/Dagobah Luke is the next DX re-release with better headsculpt. But I'll be wrong no doubt...
