I was getting worried when I was watching the movie because it's been a long time and it felt a little cheesy but thankfully it got great for me and was still very enjoyable. I agree the puppetry in the truck was done well. Much better than the earlier scenes.

It blew my mind when was 8 years old but it doesn't hold up as well as RoboCop does for me.

The eye scene isn't the worst part of the puppetry. There's a scene where he's reading Sarah's address book in his room and it looks ridiculous.

Yeah, I can acknowledge the dated practical effects. I probably saw it around the same age as you and I'm guessing I became conscious of the "seams" in the technology when I was in my teens. But for me it's like stop-motion taun tauns. i know it's fake but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I think we should only rate the films effects for the time in that it was released, in regards to T1 and T2 they literally can't get better, might be an opinion but the leading effects crews who worked on the films at the time say differently.

The Lord of the Rings:

This is a brilliant film, and even though it’s all about wizards and that and there’s people in caves called Gonads. Um, with beards. Probably Robbie Coltrane’s in it, cause he’s in the other one at the moment. Um, and there’s, it’s all swords and stuff. And there’s some magic. Uh- but he’s actually uh the lord of the rings. It’s like- there’s just one of them, he’s the lord of it. And he’s, he’s excellent in it. - 9/10

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Extended Cut.

A "deconstruction" of the superhero genre that falls flat on its' face with a ridiculous tone, poor characterizations, half-baked themes and execution. Pretentious, overbearing and patronizing. Let the record show that you go watch the Justice League cartoons instead.

2/5.

WRT the Star Trek movies, I’ve always enjoyed the original cast ones. I think the whole 2-4 trilogy is great. Khev mentioned it, and I agree that the Enterprise self destruct scene in 3 is fantastic and I think it’s the reason why we see the Enterprise be destroyed in every other ST movie since then! But even the scene that leads up to it, which is Saavik telling Kirk that “David is dead”, and Kirk’s reaction…I’m getting misty eyed just thinking about it! Seriously, I think it’s one of the best “reaction to a death” out there (also Kevin Costner’s reaction in No Way Out is pretty amazing). 6 is amazing too. But 2 is of course brilliant. So brilliant that they tried to recreate it for ST Nemesis and Into Darkness (and even X-Men 2)!

Generations is okay for the most part. But the whole thing with the two Captains felt pretty weak to me, especially the Kirk fist fight in the end. I do love quoting “They say time is the fire in which we burn”

What I really haven’t liked about the Next Gen ST movies is that it made Picard more Kirk-like in that they made him into an action hero where it was his singular action that saved the day. I don’t remember Insurrection, but all the other ones were like that, especially First Contact. What I loved best about the TV series is that the Next Gen crew really felt like a crew—a team. Not just the big 3 like in the OT (Kirk-Spock-McCoy). It felt like all the crew members mattered and everyone had a very important role in the resolution of the battle. Data’s emotion chip was also a mistake since it took away what made him so special—his outsider observation of human emotions. They gave Geordi eyes, for pete’s sake! It’s just a shame that they couldn’t be as great as even the series episodes. There was definite potential.

I loved the reboot ST and am very torn about Into Darkness. I enjoy it for the most part. It’s got great action sequences and BC is a great villain. But they really should not have made him Khan. It even feels very tacked on, like the villain was written as someone else and then they tried to shoe-horn the Khan name and key plot points to the movie. Anything relating to the name and character of “Khan” feels half baked. But when it’s just BC being a villain and there is no reference to “Khan”, it works.

Out of sheer curiosity I'd kinda like to see the T1 eye-removal scene done with modern effects.

If Cameron (fat chance) ever decided to return to the series after stroking his Avatar ego... would of been nice to see Stan come back and push effects to the next level once again.

I remember him saying he didn't believe in going back to an older film and changing things which almost seemed like a jab at his friend George.

Ehh.. they're both equally as stanky. :lol

I'll take your bloated self important Russ-EL, & raise you a 2008 TIH Abomination re-packaged & passed off as Doomsday.

BvS didn't make me suddenly love Man of Steel or anything, I just think it was a better paced and self contained movie and slightly less up its own arse :lol
