Is the saber bit in the novel?

BTW, don't vest too much baring on "The novel". I used to read the novels for things like Star Wars and Raiders, etc, and most of them had a lot of filler that was neither in the script nor anywhere else. Just additions to make it "a novel". You want to know what was really planned to be in the movie -- get the original script.

For the record on this other discussion, I really liked Kylo's character.

The novel is based on the final screen play. A call sheet especially an early one is not a finalized screen play. They are two completely different things. And unlike the novels you are referring to, these movie novels going forward are canon. Except for a situation where an edit to the film contradicts an event in the novel.

I mean...if you knew you wouldn't have said that. This novel is not like those novels. The novels for things like the prequels were based off early screenplays. That's why they ruled them as no longer being canon. I was telling you that this TFA novel is different because it's based off the FINAL screen play, and is Canon.

I don't get why people think of Kylo as a whiny c@nt to be honest. The two tantrus he had didn't make his earlier actions less "terrifying" or diminish them. I mean, look at Frank Underwood. The guy's a mischievous, manipulative @sshole with no qualms about killing, but when he gets irritated, he smashes things. He wrecks whole rooms. But I've not seen anyone call him a "whiny man-child". I mean, imagine there's this tall, dressed in all black guy with a mask and a lightsaber, wrecking the whole room in front of you. I doubt most people wouldn't be scared to *****...

Bad-Asses are good and all, but sometimes you need a bit more depth. Or hell, a change. If every villain was the same, then there would be no variety. Either way, I don't want a Vader 2.0 to be the main focus in the ST. A new, fresh face, with different motivations and characteristics is fine in my book. What I'm hoping for though, is that we get a full-on Villain at some point. No redemtion story or anything like that, straight up sadistic villainy. Like Malak, Talon or Nihilus, to name a few. Kryat would be great to see as well, but that's a bit more complicated.

Think we gotta really remember though, people on this board are a minority. Adam Driver stole the show for me, i really could careless what somebody thinks. Kinda funny how everyone i've talked to outside the net hasn't had an issue with him, and liked the movie. It's the internet and people are always gonna hate. EP8 and 9 will be hated and loved for reasons you don't understand either.

So be it.

Bring on the figure cause Kylo Ren WAS TFA for me.

Eh, I see that trend everywhere. "Man, that guy was sooo not terrifying, I'd kick his ass, easy"... It's kinda amusing to be honest. It reminds me of the thugs in the Arkham-Verse. "I could take Bruce Wayne, easy..." is one of the best lines in the game, "easy"... I get not liking a character for whatever reason, but you've got to present some points. "His face looks weird" (really? we're commenting on people's faces now?) and "he, like, destroyed **** 2 times in the movie, so he's like a kid who didn't get his toy" just don't cut it as legitimate reasons for me. Just my 0.02$...

Different characters, different approaches. I get that people wanted to see a new, menacing villain and got an emotionally unstable youth, but I don't see why that makes him a "bad character", that's all I'm saying. He's not everyone's cup of tea, but he's layered and feels more than just a caricature. You've got to remember, they also have different backstories. Vader lost everything he ever cared for, so he destroyed Anakin and gave in fully to the hate. He lost any regard for human or alien life. Kylo wants to destroy the bonds with his family and become like Vader, but he's not just there yet. Essentially we're watching Kylo as an analogue to Anakin at this point, not Vader.

Don't get me wrong, I loved ESB Vader and his scenery-chomping Smooth Badness. But it's easier to buy Kylo's actions. Officers take years to train, competent people are difficult to come by. If you keep killing the experienced top brass on a whim your Empire is eventually going to...oh...wait.

I really liked Kylo in this. The dark side has intrigued me enough to PO this guy. Used some RP to knock the price down. Can't wait to put him next to Vader.

I love a dark side villain that is so full of rage that he trashes rooms because he can't control his temper, and the fact that he is full of fear and doubt is what makes him believable as a dark side villain because those are essential elements of the dark side. Dark side = fear/rage/hate and light side=calm/selflessness/compassion. I loved how kylo ren was done in episode vii and I can't wait to see how he evolves, I also really hope that he doesn't get turned back to the light side, but the fact that they recycled a lot of the themes from the original trilogy has me a little worried that they are to afraid to break off of a successful formula and tell a new story here, it really seams like most people that are really complaining about him being whiny are the huge vader fans that don't want anything to ever topple vader as the favorite so they have to trash the new guy and if you compare young kylo to young anakin, then anakin was way more whiny then kylo before he fully embraced the power of his hate. Vader was awesome, maul was awesome and for me kylo ren was easily the highlight of the movie and the reason I will be getting into this line of 1/6 figures.

The first time I saw it I thought it was abysmal, worst thing I'd ever seen. Decided to give it another shot the other night. Still hate it but I tried to just focus on the few things I did like about it like rey. You basically have to turn your brain off and put your nostalgia goggles on and then it becomes not the worst thing ever. The movie caters to the lowest common denominator and I was very disappointed.

In no way will darth hipster ever compare to Vader, so if you think any of us are worried about that than you are delusional. I like Vader like the next guy but that has nothing to do with me hating this thing. I liked darth maul, sidious, dooku and Anakin from rots if that counts as a vote. I also loved darth malak from kotor and dessan from Jedi outcast. Ren doesn't compare to any of these imo.

That also introduced us to STAR WARS. This is 2015 with 6 movies of examples of what mistakes not to repeat. Can we really not do any better in this day and age? Or should we just continue to find more excuses for why this is acceptable?
Also not only did this movie copy multiple things from a new hope, but it had significantly more problems lol.
