Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

The enter code page is still up! Does that mean there's any chance?

What should I buy....

Batman Armory with Alfred

or

Tauntaun with Hoth Luke

I need help, been debating this for days now.....

And yeah, I know his binoculars are around the wrong way. Haven't gotten around to taking a fixed pic.

I have both sets you are debating and this is the one with the best shelf presence. Plus Tauntaun is sold out most places and will only go up.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

Until Hot Toys does a furry Tauntaun with articulation. What I never liked about SS Tauntaun is that it's basically just a statue that you can set a figure on. Maybe that's the only way it could be done and maybe it will be the only version ever released though.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

I didn't really follow Spook last year so I'm happy with the $30 in codes that I got. That'll definitely come in handy.

I could be wrong because I didn't even follow the discounts before last year, but maybe last year got expectations up? Since then I've been seeing so many people post how they're waiting for Spook to get this and that for $100 with free shipping and 10x rewards and so on. The more I heard that all year the less I thought it was going to be remotely like that, or that half of the pieces people were hoping on would even make it to this Spook. Like I said before, I think what we saw last year was a mix of overproduction with an influx of lukewarm releases. I think both Sideshow and Hot Toys may have learned a lesson from it

Tauntaun & Luke or Armory with Alfred? Mmmm that's a tough one. It's a good problem to have though

The Tauntaun is sold out and will go up in value, but I think that the Armory will too soon once it's sold out.

I guess you have to decide what movie and characters are more important to you. I have and love both but I can say the Tauntaun is a much more interesting and intricate piece than the Armory cage itself (yes it's just a statue but the sculpt and paint are phenomenal and the swap out heads & horns add variety). The figures sort of cancel out for me. More interesting figure with SSC quality that may need work, to plain guys in suits but at HT quality sort of equals out in certain respects.

If you were looking at the Armory with both Alfred & Wayne it would be a coin toss but if it's just Alfred, I'd probably suggest the Tauntaun & Luke

Guys, it's been a blast for my first Spook. Although i didn't buy anything from SS, I did score about $50 in RP thanks to the email list. It was fun participating in most of the contests/giveaways even though I didn't win anything. But my credit card took a beating buying from PC, post glitch. Even with just the 20% + 9%GST off, the prices on most HT figures were hard to pass up. So i experienced the full gamut this year, can't wait for the next Spook and what ever controversy comes with it.:clap

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

PC gave my credit card a beating as well. Also post glitch. Stupid PayPal charged me almost $20 in conversion fees, but it was still cheaper. They really need to add a CC option.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

That's not how PayPal works.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

Although Spook was a disappointment in the deals department, and maybe that IS a thing of the past with SSC, I still snagged $45 in rewards. Mostly thanks to the folks in here posting them.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

I looked it up and apparently it is how it works. They kept around 2.5% from the official conversion rate. Usually when I buy from overseas with my credit card it is closer to 1%.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

And the credit card lists it as a separate fee so it is easy to track. It appears PayPal just reduces the conversion rate.

There is no CC that charges only 1% foreign exchange over the interbank rate - interbank is the only thing even remotely close to "official" (but it's not because there's no such thing as a centralized global rate) and every bank in the world it going to base their buy and selling prices off changing markets - you can compare to the interbank but it's always going to be MULTIPLE points up and down for a decent spread to prevent them from losing money. Even higher spread when compared to any conversion look-up tool or calculator you may find and think is the "official" rate. PayPal is very competitive with CC rates and in fact better when compared to CCs that charge additional transaction fees ON TOP of the exchange.

When you use a tool to check exchange rates, you're probably getting someone's mid-market rate, which is calculated as an average of buy and sell. Check for example XE - The World's Trusted Currency Authority

A 2.5% exchange, for a 5 point spread between buy and sell, is good.

I've worked in banking in the past (6 years) and I've been doing commercial PayPal and ForEx for over 10 years.

You can also use a CC (processed by PayPal on any site that uses PayPal) without a PayPal account. Security policies/precautions by PayPal may prevent this for some cards, some locales or some people. YMMV.

IMO, there is no better processor online today for security than PayPal. This is great for a buyer and also for a seller, even if they sometimes have overzealous policies. Their transaction fees are also lower than most merchant accounts for most small businesses.

Didn't miss a single code this year! Scored $60 in rewards! Thank you Pixel; you're my hero! And a huge THANK YOU to everyone who stayed up each night to make sure we didn't miss a code!

I seem to see eye-to-eye with you a lot. For my first Spook, I was a bit disappointed. The contests were fun to enter (even if I do think the rules need a bit of clarity), and though I didn't win anything I didn't really expect to, either. I did get $40 in RP, which is pretty great, considering it wasn't that much work. The only disappointment is the deals - As I've mentioned before, I was trying to get my hands on HT AoU War Machine, and I missed out on that amazing deal earlier this year due to finances...but I said, no biggie, as long as it doesn't sell out I'm sure they'll do SOMETHING for Spook. 10% and extra rewards wasn't enough to make me bite.

I did make one buy though, not from SSC. I was able to pick up a like-new (displayed, but in mint condition) HT Iron Man 3 War Machine for $190 on the 'Bay. That's a pretty great price, and I actually like the paint scheme on that one better. So I'm not that upset, in the end. $40 of RP for nothing isn't anything to sneeze at.

Want to thank each and every one of you who posted the codes and conversed in here. I echo the sentiment that it seems like the people on this forum are more in tune with the hobby and more mature than most on their viewpoints compared to the annoying idiots out there on Twitter and FB, and I thank you all for that. Made the whole thing a lot more fun than it had any right to be.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

I used my bank through PayPal. No extra fees yet. Bruce Banner and Falcon prices stayed the same the entire time even after the "fix" they are also separate orders. Maybe I will end up slipping through.

I sure hope they don't notice my order only other than to ship them. It they do, oh well. Was fun watching everyone post with such excitement and craze.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

I wonder how Sideshow's 2015 October sales will look vs last year, good thing they aren't a publicly traded company.

I don't doubt they scaled their buying back on items after the inventory they had last year (which is a good thing if they did) maybe they finally realized when prices go up you won't sell as many items, it's very difficult to raise profit and sales at the same time.

XE is where I checked. I've never had a conversion rate that was 2.5% higher than that before.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC and other random rumblings SP00KY15 $20 code

Well, I finally put an order in for Falcon. $158 shipped, though Paypal added a few bucks to that. Still, I only had to pay $61 out of pocket, as I had just sold a couple sculpts on here. Hopefully the order sticks.
