I'm sure he'll grow on you and it'll all click, Anthony. I didn't get the butterfly wow feeling initially either (and I'm really not sure why) but it was definitely latent. Jack is a solid piece and I think he's an excellent stand alone, but Danny and the girls do provide more to the display than whats obvious. Together they take up enough space to camouflage Jack's slightly large scale. He's a little tall and the head and boots are a bit big, but unless he's displayed rubbing elbows with other figs it'll go by unnoticeably. Like if they have a dedicated Detolf space or their own space away far enough away from other figs, it'll blend into the collection

Not only is it a great art figure, but it's hands down the best Jack we've gotten to date. Sure, all of the people even attempting him are small op "C" level companies, and granted some of the attempts are already 5-6 years old, but even the newer attempts don't even come close to this

$250!

Yes I believe he will grow on me , the increasing price of customs and the increasing technology of Hot Toys is making this hobby a bit difficult. Obviously the draw of customs are the Cult Classic characters provided by private companies that Hot Toys will never make. After receiving a few new Iron Men Diecast (which are absolutely beautiful) its hard to swallow " feeling" okay with a figure 2x its price that feels incomplete. This is that grey zone of customs where you pay a premium for the hand produced limited supply figure, but with so many new companies entering the customs games I feel there needs to be a jump also in quality and satisfaction. Yunsil,Robbie and Jon from Full Metal are a perfect example of people evolving and creating a better product ever new release, if its a sword, magnetic button, boot or a fully operational trike. Overall this was a successful run in the eyes of sales and customers satisfaction, I would just like to see the bang for the buck increase. Just my two cents.

Well, he did reduce the full set price by $100 from the current usual for lack of accessories. I think a quality axe that we know he's capable of would have helped fill the bang for the buck void on the full set.

I am in the same boat. My satisfaction level on Jack as a standalone is very low. The overall oversizing of everything is tough. Compared to any custom or hot toys figure I own, he is massive even when I pose him hunching over. Putting it in an alternate display area or case defeats the purpose for me. I think the ensemble set stands on its own extremely well and it makes these issues less apparent. This paired with Danny and the twins makes it a spectacular art piece.

I'm pretty much right with you in your thoughts Mike.

I actually had the opposite, I liked him more initially and saw the flaws when the excitement wore off. I do enjoy him but feel the figure suffers in the certain stylization. It's a good likeness and an amazing paint that is burried somehow in something that almost registers too doll like.

I can't put my finger on it. I'm still satisfied though and will remain that way. Once the axe is replaced much more so. It's an amazing work by Rainman.

The other parts of the set look really good. I think better than Jack. Let's just say I'm happy I didn't go with the full set. If Jack was drop dead perfect I may have regretted it but 2 k plus for a figure that's 3/4 of the way there is not something I want to invest in.

Danny interested me less than the twins but i always felt Jack was stand alone anyway. Those elements extracted from the screen just don't work I think. Without the lighting, environment and amazing compositional placement from Kubrick they just register as strange children dolls. It looses the magic and interest in my opinion.

In my opinion the Rainman Axe size is perfect as a template for fergo. It gives off the illusion of a really threatening and menacing looking weapon. It adds a lot to bringing out Jacks violent and manic presence. The "Brolic" size of Rainmans axe makes it look like a genuine firemans axe. You cannot base accurate scale to the movie props because those axes were all different sizes and details in order to convey size according to the angles Kubrick was shooting on film. There was no standard size for that axe. So Fergo please....NO SMALL WIMPY looking axes. :lol

As for the other comments.....well, this is what happens when you have an open ended large release from a custom artist who was the go to guy for getting high quality low edition figures. As was predicted, paint quality has drastically suffered with so many inconsistencies in skin tone, eye color etc. The detail alone in the eyes is severely lacking with some lucking out with clean paintwork and others with really sloppy eye work. The teeth paint detail is also a major dissapoint.

Well there you have it. Some claimed that it wouldn't hurt production process and now they are changing their tune. I'm personally gonna have a lot of fun going back to the start of this thread and make a note of all those who said that it was a great idea to increase production without fearing a loss in quality. It's all here and on record, let's go back and look shall we.

However, overall given the immense amount of rush work involved in getting this project done it does not dissapoint. Its actually amazing that Rainman was able to put out a "good enough" quality level for so much work involved. I personally lucked out and am extremely happy with the quality of paint on my jack sculpt Danny and twins. Maybe they were painted early in the process before fatigue and boredom started to set in....who knows.

As for the shirt and axe....well this was also an area that was stressed early on in the proto process but fell on deaf ears, but Rainman is not to blame at all for this. I truely believe was listening and taking the suggestions for change very seriously. Danny is the perfect example of this. The proof is in the pudding when you see Danny. It was completely revamped...hair resculpted, likeness improved, plaid pattern on shirt improved to more accuracy. Rainman was listening and making changes. If anyone is to blame its the customers here. A lot of stuff fell on deaf ears and swept under the rug. We all got what we asked for in the end. You wanted more? Well yougot more but at a cost to quality.

Updated axe list. I won't send the list to Fergo until we all agree in the size of the axe within today and tomorrow.

I won't be able to put my hands on my DX set until the end of this week so if someone could send a picture of Rainman's with dimensions to have it on record I would really appreciate it.

I don't have the figure in hand yet but of all the pics I have seen Jack does look quite big / the sculpt / boot related height! - also the twins look too small in spite of being on a base. Does anyone have a pic of the jack figure fully straight next to any of his previous non hatted releases like taxi driver or Bill (without hat)

The twin surely are out of scale and seems to me that Danny and trike are the only ones matching exact proportions!
