You can't steal someone else's property just because you really, really, reallllly want it. If 2000 AD don't want to license a figure, that's their right, they own it. Grow up, and learn to live without your Dredd doll.
And you have right to have your avatar? You can't use this design or someone image of it, because it is property of someone else and without their permission you can't use it. It is same...

Yeah and cooking at home take job to cookers and playing with friend on playground take job to game developer....

I understand that English is not your native tongue but that is a very poor analogy. Your analogy brings consumer choice into the issue. To equate these things, it would be as though a licensed Dredd figure existed and you decided NOT to purchase it, then it would be "taking jobs" from the creatives, that makes no sense.

I am saying the people that created Dredd as a character, and a movie deserve to be compensated for their work, and that's what licensing does.

Elar...dude, it's not the same. He's NOT making money off of it. That's why you have people making fan videos or fan art. Because they're not making money off of it.

I understand where you are coming from, but you really gotta stop making these analogies that really have no correlation with one another.

And let's say that one day HT crawls out of Iron Mans @$$ and gives dredd a go...the people who bought AFs dredd would feel that there's no need to get HTs version because they already own AFs version. Again, loss of sales.

Sorry but that's not true at all, pretty much all people who buy this would then buy the official version should it ever be made.

Recent examples are the custom Keaton batman's, Nicholson jokers and 60's batman and robins, they've been made for years by fans, many of them very expensive and very well made, but when officvial versions were made by hot toys the fans were super excited and were all over it, many fans even buying multiples.

Also the first hot toys joker, people bought it, then saw the second version bought that too.

In this arena the companies are not losing out. Unlike where you get a pirate DVD then don't bother buying or renting the real version as you've already seen it.

Oh of course there are those such as myself that will go out and buy official product even though I own the unlicensed versions. But there are those that don't ya see? There have been many times where I've seen members here say "meh, I already own this from x company, don't really need this from y company". So loss of sales DO happen.

And in 5 months, when 2000AD doesn't do anything, we will bash the **** out of them.

It is the same. If you eat at restaurant and you really like that meal, you will try to make it at home and then you can make recipe and give it on internet. This is legit, or you can't? You never try cook meal, which you try in restaurant? From cooker, which study and learn experience during his life and you steal his recipe and make it at home and he don't have any penny from it?

And there is correlation - You used other properties without their permission. And doesn't matter if you gain money from it or not. You steal it. And it same, if you use picture with trademark or buy bootleg figure. Both is for personal usage.
And I know, that is different story with company, which selling that figures, but for buyer it is same...almost... (And other side, with their 90 pounds figure, they will not gain big money from it ;) )

Elar, let me come at you with this angle.

Say you designed a character. This character isn't as well known as say...batman, but his/her name is starting to gain traction and your fan base is beginning to grow.

Then, some group of toy designers decided to make toys based off of YOUR creation WITHOUT your approval and made a crap load of money....answer me honestly....will you be okay with that? Remember, EVERY cent the group makes...NONE of it goes to you. Will you be okay with that?

If you're ok with it, then there's nothing left to discuss.

:lecture Elar, your metaphors are completely off with whats happening with this figure and unlicensed items in general. Things are in fair use until a certain line is crossed.

No...you're still not getting it. AF making product based off of a property they DO NOT OWN just to make a PROFIT is NOT for personal usage. It's for profit. When I draw batman and post it here or on other sites to show friends is NOT THE SAME AS WHAT AF ARE DOING WITH DREDD. Why? Because I am not making profit. If I started to sell prints of my artwork of batman, BELIEVE ME, DC will find me and sue me.

Dude, you need to accept that what AF are doing is stealing. This is fact, NOT OPINION.

Sorry to butt in,

Its a very good point but as you mention the company is gaining traction, people are wanting merchandise. I personally would be all over that, getting the licence out there so people buy official stuff and turn there noise up at the fake figure.

But this is something they simply don't seem interested in.

The film is nearly 2 years old and 2000ad don't seem bothered in releasing merchandise for it (aside from underbelly) or ignoring the stuff that is released.

If they don't like it they should give the fans what they want, a official 1/6 figure.

Well, of course I will not be happy, but on other side, that is great promotion. And I can gain new fans, which make me money on other place. And you can try discuss with company of some cooperation, because legal things everytime sells better than illegal. I would say, that isn't only black and white with only one right solution.

I do wonder why 2000ad can't work with AF to make this a official figure, I mean the price would go up but then it would sell even more, more brand awereness, more money in 2000ad pocket.

You see it as great promotion, but when hundreds of thousands...hell, even millions are involved, I can GUARANTEE you will be singing a different tune.

I was thinking if anyone who preordered, gets an email regarding this, maybe keep it to themselves ;)

Refer to my reply to Elar. When millions are at stake, you won't be so thrilled when all is said and done.

I have, in the past, been employed to make model kit masters. "Garage kits" they are generally referred to(Low production, maximum of 100 made, generally).
We always pick something that people want but no-one will ever get licenses for.
A Star Trek Voyager Doctor's holo-emitter. Daedalus and Prometheus from Stargate. A 1/24 Jedi Starfighter. We stay under the radar and(mostly), avoid C&D letters.
All is well.
But, there are always people who will buy a copy of the kit i have mastered(And a friend has produced, with decals, etc), and will recast the entire kit to sell themselves. What they do is technically illegal too. But there's nothing we can do about it, as we don't have any licence ourselves, and are just as guilty as the recasters in a way.

In this instance, i expect Art Figures hoped it would fly under the radar. Hard to imagine it ever could have, but i suppose they have made other figures which skirt copyrights.
In a way, it's a shame it didn't.
but we can all understand why.
