Re: FULL REVEAL! PREORDER NOW! [iminime]/Rainman - Dr. Lecter

Most traditional sculptors working professionally for companies like DC Direct, Bowen, Sideshow and the like have switched to wax. Some will rough out a sculpt in sculpy and then mold it to recast in wax to do the finished work. Pretty sure Rocco, Snyder-man and several other sculptors who have worked for the above mentioned companies work partially or completly in wax. It is pretty much industry standard for professional sculptors. The main reason being the ability to adjust/tweak the sculpt easily. You can make minor to major changes without completly starting over. I have heard of sculptors who will take a wax head and completly resculpt it into a different person. It is flexibility like this that companies need, especially if looking to take the next step into licensed properties. If you think this thread is full of "experts" you haven't seen anything yet. I have heard a few horror stories from sculptors who have tweaked sculpts multiple times and still had to make additional changes. I have heard of a few sculptors who still work in sculpy like Tony Cipriano and William Paquet. These guys are part of the few who are pretty much considered the pinnacle of prototype sculpting. They would probably tell you they take a calculted risk in trying to do a finished prototype in sculpy, because of the difficulty of making changes.

:exactly::goodpost::clap wax is better..

Re: FULL REVEAL! PREORDER NOW! [iminime]/Rainman - Dr. Lecter

I'm on the fence about pre ordering right now, is this limited to any certain number? I'll pre order now if this will sell out, but as of this minute I'm undecided which outfit and would really like to see if the sculpt improves. The sculpt isn't no where near what it should be, which sucks as this is in my top 10 of figures to own.

I'm not an expert on the methods of sculpting but it sounds to me that wax is a better medium, especially on a professional level where deadlines matter. I'm sure the best in the business don't get it 1000% right on their first attempt. You'd never be able to respect a deadline if you had to do major changes late in the game and have to scrap all that work and start from scratch.

Re: FULL REVEAL! PREORDER NOW! [iminime]/Rainman - Dr. Lecter

Denny, I understand that when the sculpt is already harden, it is hard to make such changes. But I think it will be part of your services to offer the best work and product. From the look of it, the shape is not quite right. I don't really think improvements on the paint job will help to get the right likeness.

So I do hope with the quality and reputation that iminime has, you would make such effort to alter the shape of the sculpt itself. I do read on your FB page that you are tweaking the mouth, and I hope that is a tweak on the sculpt, not just the paint.

Thank you for listening to us, and for your effort to get the best result. :)

Just to clarify: Sculpy is a great medium for sculpting. Some truely great garage kits and prepainted staues have been created in that material. I'm pretty sure the Andgor head that was posted in this thread earlier was originally sculpted in super sculpy as well. It is not a medium that allows for quick and easy changes once it is baked. That is probably why they are reluctant to go all out on the changes everyone is requesting. When request for changes are likely to happen wax is a more forgiving medium to changes and allows for big changes without starting over. In the hands of a skilled sculptor either will create exceptional works of art.

There is always the option of not buying it and moving on.

No way. This may be the last time we get a Lecter. It needs to be done right. Taking customer feedback shouldn't be such a hassel for Rainman to do on Iminime projects, it should just be taken and considered before it's too late.

I LOOOOVE the se7en figures. Neo is amazing. Smith looks the part. Especially with the glasses. Rick grimes looks to be the best of the bunch.

This release is iminimes weakest to date. And LECTER is a grail figure.

You don't think Beto would do one? If so maybe better than this one? He is the master of horror figures......might even throw in a gurney with a project like this.

Re: FULL REVEAL! PREORDER NOW! [iminime]/Rainman - Dr. Lecter

SOTL is not really Horror and definitely not Beto territory. I recently tried to pitch him the idea of doing Torrance and he turned it down. He said that he loves the Shinning but he likes to create more grotesque looking figures and his heart wouldn't be in the Torrance project. He did Ash once upon so I thought he'd jump all over Torrance but he didn't. IDK

I gotta say I'm not a believer in the buy or don't buy theory. Of course that's the bottom line at the end of the day but a lot of us go haywire because of the exact reason that DP mentioned. There aren't many people producing custom full sets consistently. Right now it's Rainman, Beto, Velvet & Iminime (I hope that Sean/Kato can get a more consistent flow going. We can use another source).

So naturally when a character that people have been dying for finally comes to life, people are going to want it to be all it can be because most likely there won't be a second chance. I love the exclusivity of the custom world but sometimes I do wish that there were more options for us. This way we wouldn't have to spend so much time and energy giving our opinions and competition would force the customizers to push their full potential. We'd be able to comfortably take that "pass for the next one" approach. Clearly right now that's not the situation.

Re: FULL REVEAL! PREORDER NOW! [iminime]/Rainman - Dr. Lecter

Hannibal Lecter is too much of a pop culture icon to expect this to be the last figure ever offered of him. It is the nature of artist in this hobby to try and one-up the last person who took on a given character. Hell I have waited over 40 years to have the Original Star Trek crew that I am really happy with. Artist keep making new sculpts and I keep waiting for something I'm satisfied with. Patience is something a lot of younger collectors seem to lack.

True that he does more of the creature feature type figures....but who knows...maybe one day he will pop up and do one...lol. But for now anyone wanting this....I would grab it. Not feeling the bloody version but the orange jumpsuit and the mask...amazing.

Re: FULL REVEAL! PREORDER NOW! [iminime]/Rainman - Dr. Lecter

I like that these guys are willing to listen to customers, and I have certainly benefited from it (if not for both a poll and then uproar created on these forums over edition size, I would not have a fullset Dude, who is the gem of my collection).

BUT, there is a seedy underside to this, which is the exponential growth of customer entitlementitis. Some here seem to view all these releases as mass commissions where all our opinions matter a great deal and what the artists want to do is irrelevant except insofar as it meets our collective needs, but that's not what they are in my view. We shouldn't be able to dictate every detail of how these things are made, because artists are involved who should have artistic freedom. If we take that away, then I think it cheapens the nature of these figures and part what makes them special. And inferring the motivations and work ethic of these guys, I think that's the extreme and really unfortunate end to all of it. Rainman is not some factory worker churning out widgets. When Rainman/Iminime/whomever invite input and criticism, they open the door to that, so it is partially their fault, but it is a really unfortunate thing that I wish we didn't see so much of.

I know some others don't agree with this, but at a certain point I take Odell's point of view and either buy or don't buy.

This is the way I feel about HOT TOYS threads... Freaks ***** and complain that their $220 figure doesn't have a laser precision likeness because the left cheekbone on the actor is .02 mm and then they post 18 photoshopped images... BUT this is different. These customs are twice as expensive (my Lecter PO is for $433) and the likeness on this figure in particular is not as close as the mainstream companies get with their offerings.

I agree 100%. I think we'll see an SOTL Lecter or other popular cult characters being done by the bigger companies, once their other licenses start to cool off. With that said I think it's great that Denny and imminime are really improving their communication channels with their customer base and are showing sighns of wanting to put out the best product for the fans. Maybe having a couple of in house artists work on the sculpt from the start would cut down the time of having to go back and revise things. For sure their sculpts have improved greatly.

Re: FULL REVEAL! PREORDER NOW! [iminime]/Rainman - Dr. Lecter

All it takes is one board member to commission a sculptor to make a Lecter head and everyone in here will have wished they grabbed these clothing sets.

Re: FULL REVEAL! PREORDER NOW! [iminime]/Rainman - Dr. Lecter

my wife grabbed this for me...both sets of clothing and 2 heads...now all that is left for me is to PO that rainman no country killer and Bateman...and i can say i will have my psychotic shelf on point....need to put together my kack from the shining together and we are all good....:)....thanks Iminime...:)
