will sideshow be making anything from the Hobbit movie?
statues or pf's i mean

I would get Gimli first. Thorin has a great design, but I must say the pose of this particular sculpt is not showcasing him favourably. Also, though some will disagree, I think the face sculpt lacks that nobility and badassery of Thorin, that we saw in so many promotional materials, even if there's still some likness to Armitage. The whole Hobbit hype is only beggining. You can be sure, there will be other Thorin statues in the future..

You won't get any disagreement from me. That was my first impression when I saw this at SDCC. I'm glad Weta has decided to follow SS's lead regarding their LOTR maquette line, by getting rid of the awful monotone fleshtone coloring of the previous SSW statue line and adding some realistic facial coloring. And I'm glad they've gotten rid of the circular blobs of paint they use to pass off as eyes, but it seems to me the essence of Thorin is completely missing in this statue. Not only does the facial expression [or lackthereof] not fit with the pose, it looks to me like he's just gotten back from the beauty salon where he had a facial and had his eyebrows plucked. I'm sure this will be the first of many Thorin statue's, and hopefully, whether it be Weta or Sideshow, future attempts to capture the "if looks could kill" essence of Thorin will succeed where this one has failed.

Also see if You can get the original Gimli Weta statue, released around the time Two Towers had its premiere. I believe its considered to be the best dwarf collectible to date. Not as flashy pose as the Sideshow one.

I think this is where you and I part ways. Not only would I not consider this to be the best dwarf statue to date. I wouldn't even consider it to best the best Weta representation to date. The likeness in my opinion is terrible, and not even remotely on par with that of the Gimli/Legolas on Arod statue or the SS maquette. And if someone can explain to me why he is wearing his Lothlorien cloak when clearly [based on the stone markings on the base] he is in Moria then I'd love to hear it. At least Sideshow took the time and trouble of accurately portraying Gimli with all his gear instead of taking the shortcut of covering everything up with a cloak. IMO the Sideshow version is light years ahead of the original SSW version in every way, shape, and form.

It's from one of the deleted scenes that didn't make it to the movie or EE DVDs. Gimli went back to Moria after he got the cloak and before the Fellowhip left because he realized in all the excitement of battle he left his cell phone on Balin's tomb.

At the end of the book, he does go visit a Dwarven mine with Legolas though I've forgotten which one.

Not sure about a mine but I know Legolas took Gimli with him to the undying lands but I like my original story better. :lol

recieved Gimli today very pleased with it. Is the weta thorin the same scale as my SS Gimli

what is the scale of the 2 statues[/QUOTE Looking at mine now and I might be wrong...they might fit in together...SS Gimli is 1/6 and Thorin is very close to it...I am also looking at my old SSW Gimli too and comparing

Both Sideshow's maquette line and Weta's Hobbit line are 1/6 scale. I thought that maybe the maquettes were actually slightly larger but both lines are officially 1/6 scale.

Yup my mistake...the older SSW seem to be maybe 1/7 scale but the new WETA items are truly 1/6

The old SSW line was 1/6 scale too, but either the SSW line, or the SS maquette line and the Weta Hobbit line, must be different because there's definately a height difference between the lines, as shown by a photo i saw of the old SSW Gandalf next to the new Weta one.

If they are diff heights then they cannot be the same scale...
