Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

I have to see the final version in a few months, but right now, I pass.

They gotta do this like Avengers Thor (fix it) or this will be a HT MJ Thriller release (shelf warmer).

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

If they do fix something, it will be very minor or something really big. But I wouldn't get my hopes up.

A couple of big(ger) changes -- particularly wristguard and boots -- and a couple of very minor ones could completely change the perception of this figure.

I actually expect a bit of change on this one. Looks like it may have been rushed to market with less-than-complete information (they haven't seen the movie) ... so the chances of updates between now and release seem solid.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

Haven't read every post, but I think assuming there will be a DX or 2.0 is a bit presumptuous. This character ain't Joker. Nor is he Batman. He isn't nearly as iconic as those others, and doesn't pop on the shelf like those other guys do. If this figure doesn't sell well, then it wouldn't shock me if HT didn't revisit the character (in fact, I wouldn't expect it). Remember that HT doesn't give us characters based on great performances the vast majority of time. They give us characters based on what will sell.

Your opinions may change after the movie regarding Bane/Tom Hardy.

At this point, we need more detailing on the vest.

Agreed. There are opportunities for secondary releases if this sells well ... but, if it doesn't sell well enough, this could be all she wrote. Think Two Face.

Pretty much what I said - all the more important to GET THIS ONE RIGHT.

:lecture:goodpost:

Frankly I think while they may have plans to do an upgraded version, those plans risked being scuppered by how bad this version is.

Regardless of how terrible the v1 Joker was, it still sold out.

I fear this may be TDK Two Face scenario - people will not buy it because of the issues and the belief that there will be a better version. In doing so HT will think ok this is not a character worth doing a 'proper' release for, so we'll just leave it.

Lose/Lose for everyone

That's why its all the more important to get them to fix THIS one before production.

There are problems ... but the figure doesn't really look too skinny to me.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

Yeah, Two Face is a good precedent for lots of arguments that folks make about Hot Toys. I thought it was a great figure for the time, but it just wasn't interesting enough, and wasn't an important enough character in general (i.e., outside of the film) to sell to casual HT collectors. I can easily see that happening here.

And I do empathize with folks thinking this figure looks kind of lackluster, but I personally don't think anything here is surprising (he's a kinda boring looking character IMO). He's lacking a few accessories I and most others wouldn't have any use for (a picture of Dent, a mic, a detonator?), and he seems to have the major looks of the character covered. I guess he could be a bit bulkier, but he looks big enough to my eyes. I'm thankful whenever HT decides NOT to do the googly eyes personally, since it messes up likenesses as frequently as it enhances the figure. . .

What are the problems that really rile you up about this one, void, since I figure you're more familiar than others about what he's supposed to be and come with?

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

This just looks bad. And I mean really bad. On so many levels. I won't even bother with the costume inaccuracies, but the proportions are totally off!

Hardy has gargantuan traps and a really thick neck. This figure's looks like some regular dude when you compare those areas. The fat he has on his body reveals no signs of veins, and that coupled with those traps make him look monstrous, and sadly this figure doesn't capture that. He looks like he needs to eat. Not for muscle, but for fat.

Only redeeming quality is the headsculpt. That thing is top notch.

Yep. This shouldn't be a catalyst for better releases of the same thing in the future. This one right here should be the best they should make since they have advanced so much in detailing stuff.

They should also add extra seams for the zipper that goes around the crotch and thigh area of the pants.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

A bit OT, but did they digitally remove his tattoos? Seems like it would have been easier to cover them with makeup.

I largely agree. It is mostly good enough.

The only thing that really bothers me is the lack of a wristguard ...

The gauntlet seems to be almost a trademark of this version of Bane. The boots are a little bothersome -- they're way off. Otherwise, a couple of minor tweaks to colors or straps or whatever would help, and an accessory or two (though I'm not sure exactly what).

The wristguard is there as an accessorie. Not sure why they didn't put it on for the promotional shots.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS183 - The Dark Knight Rises: Bane Collectible Figure

I think dinolast hit the nail on the head, give him the Barney Ross arms. He would look a load better.

As it stands though I think this is a fantastic figure and a great representation of bane. Some things could be improved like the pants and vest but what figure couldn't be improved in some way.
