What's the point in even having a numbered system if nobody but the employees ever get the low numbers? :huh
So the numbered system would only make sense if everyone had an equal chance of getting low numbers? Then what about all the folks who would still have high numbers?

The logical conclusion of your train of thought is that the only point of the numbering system is that folks buy with the hope that they will win the lottery of getting a low numbered item (1-5 I guess?). Is that what you think?

Or who you know.:elefant
Yeah. . .that's the way things are in the world. Sorry.

Well I do have low numbers. I think one of the lowest # I got was Shin AKUMA #8

And that is a grail for sure!!

Yeah. . .that's the way things are in the world. Sorry.

The point is that EVERYONE should have an equal chance of getting low numbers, not just employees. If the low numbers are consistently hoarded by the employees then nobody has a chance of winning that lottery. It's fixed.

The number is pointless anyway.

It would matter if the first statue made was marked #1 and the next #2 as molds get worn the more items are made with it.

But the numbers are just slapped on at random by 5 cents an hour Chinawoman.

Then why have a numbering system at all and not just open-ended editions? :huh
I don't know the exact reason that folks like knowing they have number X out of Y, but they must, otherwise it wouldn't be done at all (personally, I couldn't care less). But obviously people care about more than just low edition numbers in these instances, or only statues with edition sizes of 5 or fewer would be popular for having the edition sizes scribbled on the base.

Every piece has "Artist Proofs" that are made that are often given to the companies and licensees and can be given to special folks who are shown love from the company like actors or directors if the piece is film inspired. One of those is definitely worth more than any #1 or #2 IMHO. I never understood really the desire to have a low number, I always thought it'd be neater to have 750/750 for example than #1. :dunno

Personally I could care less about what number I get so long as I get one but it does help the re-sale value if you have a low number. I just think they should do away with the whole numbering thing myself and leave them open. Everyone will have XXX of XXX.

I think it was probably initially a gimmick that folks liked, in part because of the lottery idea and novelty, and it became a part of convention, and now it's just something Sideshow does with everything even though it doesn't really matter much (folks know they have something of a given run size, and the edition number doesn't really mean anything). But again, I'm probably not the best person to speculate since I don't fully understand the whole thing. I'm a casual statue collector at best.

You are right it is just a gimmick like "Limited Edition" or "Ultimate Edition" until they come out with "Version 2.0" that completely devalues the others.

I always receive number one.

My blackbeard is number 9, my lowest ever from ss, normally I get very high numbers. I did get Number one from Jerry for his Gandalf print, and was completely floored. My favourite print, and it's number 1.
