Release has nothing to do with Enterbay, Enterbay cant even sell to EB dealers - due to licencing.

All they did was partnered with Medi under UU banner and supply Medi with YJ's sculpt

EB in the end are just distributors of the figure (HK/China only - just like the other UU projects)

Why are they using a talking body?

It's a top-down directive: "all Enterbay releases must now come with a gimmick that does nothing to enhance it as an action figure, ie GoD Bruce Lee's retractable biceps"

It came after the previous top-down directive: "regardless of how out of step with the other manufacturers it makes the company, all Enterbay releases are to continue the tradition of stupid expensive MSRPs"

So a $350 talking action figure is a good start

I think I can easily pass on a talking Jack. That was cool 20 years ago but now its just kind of dumb (to me at least.)

But the skin tone is a tad dark compared to the movie.

Hope to see the whole figure soon. I have the HT on pre-order but I like this better than HT. This is spot on. I've always thought this was better than HT except previously they had a sinister expression but now that they toned that down, I defiitely think the EB sculpt is better.

I hope to see an in hand pics though before I cancel my HT PO. But if its pretty much like this, I'm going with EB.

I have to say, I'm surprised that you've preordered the HT Jack and still have more push towards this Enterbay Jack. Kudos.

For me, ultimately, it will depend on the actual "produced" figure. So waiting for in-hand pics is a must for me too.

I PO the HT because they have a proven track record of producing figures that most of the time look even better in hand than in the pictures. That's what I love about HT. No question on quality. EB, I've read is is a lot like other companies that would show great products on pictures and not so much in hand. HT is a win-win situation. So even if I end up passing on EB, its not like I'll regret getting the HT. Its just that at the moment, in comparing the two, I definitely like the EB a lot. Its definitely spot on.
Plus, I PO from SS which doesnt have a penalty if I cancel it.

Yeah, so I'm hoping the EB in hand pics will show up first before the HT release. I'm really impressed by EB's sculpt. I like the expression as well.

I'm certainly not trying to crap on this figure. I just see Depp more in HT. But, if you have some technical features you could point out, I'd certainly be open to them myself.

I'm probably just looking at things from a completely different angle than the majority. There are artists who are technically perfect and those who can capture a likeness; very few can do both. Neither HT or EB are perfect in either but regard, but for me EB comes closer. I'm looking at proportions, the shape of the nostrils, jaw line, etc. Depp has very distictive features than when one thing's off it sets everything off. A rather bland expression should be easier to capture a likeness in and a smirking one is typically much harder to achieve because the shape of the face changes.

I agree. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to spotting detail, so I can't articulate exactly what it is about this sculpt that is lacking for me. Others who are bigger fans of Depp and/or POTC seem to be saying that this sculpt is the better likeness, but I just can't see it. Perhaps it's the expression, I'm not digging it. Maybe I have become a HT fanboy whore.

I don't know you so I have no idea if your a HT fanboy whore. But I think you may have a really good point.

I will give HT toys the costuming here because it is obviously better quality. The EB version doesn't bother me because I can fix that. (you should see what I did to a Medicom Mad Hatter!). For me what the head sculpt looks like is the selling point. Anything else I can deal with. My disappointment, though, with both costumes is that they look too new.

The ship in a bottle is a let down. That should be the Black Pearl in the bottle not some generic ship.

I was looking forward to this figure as a nice alternative or possible kitbash into a previous jack incarnation, but with the outrageous price and no longer unique accessories, you get more bang for less buck with HT.

I agree. I mean HT seems to have, as some have put it, stole EB's accessories, so why not EB return the favor? An personally as childish as it may seem, if the voice/talking feature sounds like Depp as Jack, thats a feature I'd actually like and not grow tired of. The Jacket, Hat and sculpt are the main selling points now, not enough but I really wish I could get my hands on those parts. And the shirt looks nice and yellow/sweat-stained unlike HT very white looking one. I'm not knocking HT as Thad the one I have on Pre-order, just looking at a few pros and cons of both
