Re: Spider-Man Comiquette - Waitlist links available in 1st post.

It's not the glass you have to worry about, it's the cheap ikea welding jobs on the metal frame that give way to the weight in most of the horror stories I've heard.

Looks really nice like that though!

bam! took a fat ziptie and used the rubber grip to support the bottom weight, and a mini ziptie to hold the bar in place... just incase the welds do brake it will still hold everything in place

Great idea!!
Can you tell me what that black part is?
Rubber grip? Can you show me? And where do you get that?

Thanks in advance!

Congrats!!

if you look to the left (picture)...you see the rubber grips that hold the glass in place...since you wont be using them you will have a few extra. Just take one and place it under the support beam and zip tie it with a regular size zip-tie (the black one pictured)...before zip'n it all the way down...get a "mini" ziptie (the white one pictured) and loop it so everything is connected together...now zip tie everything extra tight. and your done! that way if the welds do brake...the rubber grip that is zip-tied right under the beam will keep it from sinking/falling.

Re: Spider-Man Comiquette - Waitlist links available in 1st post.

So, sadly I had to cancel my EX Spiderman comiquette due to it being released earlier than I expected and during the holidays. Well, received a good chunk of Christmas and birthday money, so I took a trip to a LCS. Walked away with this!! Got it for retail price too . . . #094/1,250!!! WOW amazing is all I can say.

Re: Spider-Man Comiquette - Waitlist links available in 1st post.

I just cancelled my exclusive pre-order as well. I was always on the fence about it since I'd love a definitive Spidey statue and the pose for this one is definitely perfect. However the sculpt simply doesn't look enough like any version of Spidey I grew up with. The head resembles the hideous Toy Biz Manga Spidey action figure with its massive eyes and spherical cranium. And he just looks too emaciated, extremely skinny with more ribs showing than I thought people had. It looks like he's on the Lara Flynn Boyle diet. The musculature of the arms and legs also looks painful in spots. The fingers also look too long and spindly, but that's a minor point I guess. The whole thing just looks a little too inhuman to me. It doesn't look as godawful as the disgusting art below, but it's a little too close to it.

I realize this begs the question of what artwork should the definitive Spider-Man statue be based on. Certainly a really good McFarlane interpretation would be interesting to see. The Toy Biz McFarlane-based figure worked really well. Granted this statue is definitely a post-McFarlane design, incorporating his large eyes and spidery fingers, but McFarlane's interpretation had bulkier, rounder musculature and a more elongated, less squat head. It also had a lot more webline detail (5 lines between the eyes, not just 3) which is probably the feature that sells the McFarlane design more than anything else, not to mention the underarm webs. Here's a good basic shot of McFarlane Spidey:

The McFarlane Spidey perhaps loses some of the humanity of the classic character, but it gives more than enough visual razzle dazzle to make up for that. This statue seems to be offering a Silver Age level of detail to the costume coupled with the cartoonish stylistic excesses of modern comic art...more or less the worst of both worlds.

I can sum it up with this picture:

That looks absolutely frightening. Spidey shouldn't look like he needs to be force-fed a sandwich.

Taking a closer look at the art print with the exclusive, it looked significantly better. It seemed to capture much more of the classic Silver Age flavor. If the statue had turned out like that, we might have really had something. Unfortunately the actual statue makes it look like the sculptor locked the print up in a concentration camp for 45 days before starting his work. I don't know who could look at this body and think it looks heroic in any way, shape or form.

Re: Spider-Man Comiquette - Waitlist links available in 1st post.

My CC has been charged and someone at SS said that mine's getting ready to ship:yess:. If it leaves SS today, it should arrive on Friday! (Now to make sure that I've got a place to put the box - it's a big'un.)

I almost canceled this but a relative surprised me with the money, as a Christmas gift. This has been a great holiday season for me!

That's what Spidey get for going to school, delivering pizza(or taking pics), fighting crime, and have a relationship all at once in NYC. I am surprise he doesn't eat his costume temporarily, LOL.

This is the best Spidey to date people....!
